A couple of results from yesterday's auction:

5s344 - $417,500
5s398 - $417,500

Odd that they both sold for the exact same amount!

There were several other Shelby cars in this auction including a couple of Cobras, but I only receive results/notifications for '65 GT350s.

Appeals / Distributor
August 25, 2022, 09:35:34 PM
I have a distributor for a 65-67 Gt350 in my spare parts, and a friend needs it for his car. It has a '65 date code. It is not restored but in very good condition and I've had it for 30+ years.

Any have an idea of the ballpark value? Thanks in advance!

To celebrate Shelby's 50th anniversary, Carroll Shelby and the powers that be wanted to do it in high-horsepower style. Initially, the powers that be thought Carroll would be happy with the 800 HP Super Snake, but it was said that after his first drive, he asked when a 1,000 HP version would be made: hence, the Shelby 1000. This particular Shelby 1000 was built for David Yurman—the world-famous jewelry designer—whose creations include the Shelby wristwatch. One of only 20 produced, it is the last Shelby product built with Carroll Shelby's input. While it's easy to think it's simply a modified Super Snake with 1,000 HP, nothing could be further from the truth. The amount of engineering and development that went into the Shelby 1000 is astonishing. New subframes of chromoly were installed and linked front-to-back and side-to-side to create a majorly tolerant chassis to begin with; the work goes on and on. No Mustang was ever meant to handle 1,000 HP, so Shelby worked feverishly to ensure that the Shelby 1000's foundation could support the power. This car has traveled a scant 968 miles from new and features a supercharged 5.4L/1,000 HP V-8 engine mated to a 6-speed transmission. Inside, leather Recaro seats offer supportive comfort and the rear seat has been removed. Wilwood brakes behind satin black 20-inch Shelby 1000 forged wheels help tame the speed in short order. Few names are as synonymous with performance as Shelby, and the Shelby 1000 is a fabulous legacy for him to have departed on. With a top speed of 200 MPH, it'll find 60 MPH from zilch in just 4 seconds, and it'll take on pretty much any curve you throw at it and come out the other side as flat as a pool table. For those seeking the ultimate performance Shelby, this is it.

Up For Auction / B9 sold at BJ
June 30, 2019, 01:52:40 PM
'69 Boss 429 KK#1393 hammered at $115K ($126K inc buyer's premium) yesterday at BJ. I remember a good discussion on another thread about '65 GT350s that have been modified/race-prepped and the affect on their values. Is it cost effective for this B9 to be returned to stock condition...or would you keep it as is?

https://www.barrett-jackson.com/Events/Event/Details/1969-FORD-MUSTANG-BOSS-429-232170

Lot #689 - This Royal Maroon Boss 429 is from the first year of Boss 429 production in 1969. It is powered by a Boss 429ci V8 engine, built and balanced by Ross Racing and Restoration. The detailed build of this engine includes an Eagle 521 stroker crank, Eagle H-beam rods, custom JE pistons with Mahle rings, COMP Cams 586 lift hydraulic cam and lifters, Blue Thunder dual-quad aluminum intake, dual 750 cfm carburetors, Mallory distributor with Hi-Fire system, 7-quart rear sump oil pan, high-volume oil pump and water pump, Northern aluminum crossflow radiator and March reduction pulleys with serpentine belt. The engine is backed by a big input shaft close-ratio Toploader 4-speed manual transmission turning a 9" Ford housing with nodular case and a 3.91" Traction-Lok differential. It also features a hood scoop larger than any on a Ford production car up to that time. These cars were specially modified by Kar Kraft in Brighton, MI, to accept the massive Boss 429 engine, however the original Boss 429-specific shock towers and original VIN-stamped front aprons have been removed along with several other Boss 429 items. These items were removed in order to install some upgraded hardware indicative of the serious performance intentions of this car. On top of the Boss 9 engine are twin Weber carburetors, and a Mallory distributor helps keep it in tune. It also has full race RJS safety harnesses complete with SFI tags. The Haneline gauges are in their correct locations. Weld-in subframe connectors and a 4-point roll bar keep things stable when the power is applied, and the suspension has been strengthened with a Panhard bar and Traction Master traction bars. It features front disc brakes for stopping power, a Rod & Customs front suspension and rack & pinion steering. Documented with a Marti Report and two shipping invoices. From The David Maxwell Collection.

1965 Shelby GT350

$325,000 - $425,000

RM | Sotheby's - ARIZONA 2019  - Offered on: Thursday, January 17, 2019

Chassis No.

SFM 5S363

Multiple award-winning restoration
Presented in classic Ford Wimbledon White with Guardsman Blue stripes
Highly desirable and iconic American performance car

One of the most enduring and coveted performance cars of the 1960s is the Shelby GT350. This 1965 example, chassis SFM 5S363, was brought to concours-level standards with over 1,300 hours of restoration work spent on it. A full rotisserie restoration was performed by noted Mustang and Shelby expert Paul's Engineering of Ohio and the engine, transmission, brake, rear-end assembly, and suspension components were meticulously rebuilt to show standards.

After emerging from restoration, the GT350 was exhibited at four judged shows and achieved podium results every time. At the Regional Indiana Shelby meet it received Judge's Choice, then captured the Silver Award at the 1996 SAAC National meet at Lime Rock, followed by consecutive Gold Awards in 1997 and 1998 at the Oklahoma National Mustang Grand National show and the Michigan National SAAC meet. Following its brief and illustrious show career, the GT350 was retired from competition and carefully stored in a heated garage.

Finished in classic Wimbledon White, this Shelby's exterior features traditional Guardsman Blue stripes, Cragar five-spoke wheels, and a matching spare wheel with a Goodyear Blue Dot spare tire, as well as a correct driver's side mirror. Interior features include a 15-in. wood-rimmed steering wheel, rare and original Ray Brown Automotive 3-in. lap belts, radio delete, the original dash panel, portions of the original seat covers, and correct carpeting. The highly detailed restoration extends to the undercarriage, with factory-correct details including red oxide primer, white overspray, and factory-style chalk markings.

Beneath the fiberglass Shelby hood with steel supports, the 306-hp 289 shifts through a Borg-Warner T10 four-speed transmission with an aluminum case and is equipped with such correct Shelby performance equipment as "Tri-Y" headers and a proper 1965-dated 715-cfm Holley carburetor. Other items include a factory-correct Shelby air cleaner, Shelby hollow-letter finned aluminum valve covers, a high-capacity Shelby finned aluminum oil pan, a large-diameter alternator pulley, an export brace, a Monte Carlo bar, and a trunk-mounted battery as well as a 9-in. Ford rear end with a Detroit Locker unit.

This beautifully restored and since well-preserved Shelby GT350 presents an opportunity to acquire a superb example of classic American power and pose.

Up For Auction / 5s053 at RM Sotheby's
July 22, 2018, 05:11:38 PM
Coming up for auction in Monterey next month:

https://rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/MO18/Monterey/lots/r0094-1965-shelby-gt350/693240

The GT350 offered here, chassis no. SFM 5S053, is an outstanding example of a true automotive legend. Starting with Ford's already exceptional "K-Code" Mustang fastback, Carroll Shelby and his team at Shelby American stocked the GT350 with numerous suspension upgrades, improved safety equipment, and provided the engine with approximately 35 more horsepower than the standard Ford "Hi-Po" 289 V-8. The end result was a production class-racing dynamo which easily met the challenge from other cars of the day, including the Jaguar E-Type, Sunbeam Tiger, as well as archrival Corvette. To this day, the GT350 remains an ever-popular choice for vintage racing and touring events around the world.

Chassis 5S053 is one of the earliest examples produced and known as a "two-digit" car. The early GT350s, numbers 015–113, were the group of cars produced for homologation for SCCA racing. Additionally, given the early production sequence, this example benefits from the trunk-mounted battery, which appears (approximately) on serial numbers 001–338. The battery relocation was found to be one of the more time-consuming modifications, and in the interest of saving time, the battery was left in the front of the car on later production examples. In addition to the relocated battery, the early production cars benefit from unique features, including their fiberglass hood design and construction.

According to the SAAC Shelby Registry, 5S053 was received by Shelby American on 23 December 1964; Shelby completed the car on 17 March 1965. It was shipped just three days later, on 20 March 1965, to Tasca Ford Sales, Inc. of East Providence, Rhode Island. The Shelby Mustang's first owner was David A. Sartrys of nearby Bristol, Rhode Island. The car then spent time with several owners in Maine, Connecticut, and Maryland before finding a new home in St. Clair Shores, Michigan, in 1984. It is under this owner, Robert Varcoe, that the car is believed to have been comprehensively restored, leading to a 2nd place finish at the Shelby American Automobile Club (SAAC) concours in Dearborn, Michigan, in early July 1986.

The car was then sold in August of 2000 to Matthew Morrison of York, Pennsylvania. It stayed with Mr. Morrison until 2007, when it was shipped across the country to Ayman Nassar of Palo Alto, California. The car has since passed through the hands of well-known West Coast enthusiasts, before returning to Connecticut and the care of the consignor.

Despite debuting more than 50 years ago, the GT350 remains a dramatic and visceral driving experience. There is nothing subtle about the car; it is designed to go fast, handle well, and of course to look good while doing both. GT350 5S053 is certainly no exception to this long-established rule. It presents in beautiful condition throughout and remains overwhelmingly original. It retains its correct engine block, heads, timing covers, and carburetor, as well as the proper date-coded GT350 fenders. Though an upgraded five-speed transmission is currently fitted in the car, the correct aluminum T-10 transmission is included with the sale.

This car will make an ideal companion for vintage touring or racing events, or, with appropriate detailing, a return to the show circuit, where it is sure to make a scene.

Up For Auction / 5R096 at RM Sotheby's
July 22, 2018, 05:07:11 PM
Coming up for auction in Monterey:

https://rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/MO18/Monterey/lots/r0130-1965-shelby-gt350-r/697506

Finished on 20 April 1965, the Shelby GT350 R offered here, chassis no. 5R096, was initially ordered by Ford Motor Company of Canada to be used by the Comstock Racing team of Toronto. According to the SAAC Shelby Registry, this would be the second privateer car to be shipped. Finished in Wimbledon White with no Le Mans stripe, upon its arrival in Canada it was quickly repainted in the Comstock team colors of white with green stripes. Furthermore, the GT350 R was equipped with Weber carburetors, which were legal under Canadian racing rules. Following its first race at Mosport with Eppie Wietzes, it was driven again by Wietzes and Craig Fisher at the 500-mile race at Mosport on 23 August 1965, where it won 1st overall. This was a huge accomplishment for both the drivers and the car, especially considering that it drove the last two hours of the race without functioning brakes!

After being listed for sale the following year, 5R096 would remain in Canada and was purchased by Stan Ward and was repainted blue. With Ward, it would race around Eastern Canada at Harewood Acres in Ontario; Argentia in St. Johns, Newfoundland; and St. Jovite in Quebec, which would later become known as Mont-Tremblant. Unfortunately, the engine blew while he was racing at Harewood, which destroyed the aluminum oil pan. It was then purchased by Brian Burgess of Toronto and, subsequently, the car moved south of the border. Passing through Mike Gaffney of Bloomington, Illinois, it was traded to Richard Leuchner of Noank, Connecticut, who began a restoration. Sold mid-restoration to Texas, the GT350 R eventually wound up back with Leuchner in 1982. After passing to Dave Mathews of Guilford in 1995, the restoration was finally completed in 1996 and the car was returned to its Comstock specifications and livery.

Following being shown at SAAC-21 at Lime Rock in July of 1996, 5R 096 was purchased by a renowned American collector to join his world-class collection of sports and racing cars, and was subsequently converted for vintage racing. He used his new GT350 R mostly overseas on long-distance rallies, which included the Rallye du Maroc Classic in 1999 and the Tour Auto in 2000 and 2001. The car proved to be quite competitive, finishing 18th overall and 2nd in class at the Tour Auto in 2000, and 2nd in class yet again the following year.

The GT350 R was purchased by its current owner in 2003; he imported it to Switzerland and continued to vintage race it. More recently, the engine was returned to original specifications in 2015 with further historic racing in mind. Since then, the car has competed in the Jarama Classic in 2016 and 2017 in addition to the 2016 Dix Mille Tours, the 2017 Spa Classic, and the 2017 Hungaroring Classic.

A competent and highly eligible entrant for historic racing across the globe, 5R096 has proven to be highly competitive in motorsport throughout its life. Restored in its original Comstock livery and prepped for historic racing, it begs to return to the track with its next owner.

Up For Auction / 65 GT350 R for sale - 5r213

Where's my winning lottery ticket...

https://showroom.barrett-jackson.com/Home/Details/1965-SHELBY-GT350R_113842?utm_source=eblast&utm_medium=eblast_showroom&utm_campaign=Showroom&utm_term=05102018&utm_content=1965%20SHELBY%20GT350R

DESCRIPTION

From its inaugural season in 1957, the B Production class of the SCCA had been dominated by Chevrolet and drivers like Dick Thompson and Don Yenko - that is, until 1965, when Jerry Titus and Carroll Shelby teamed up. To beat the competition, Shelby modified the street version of his GT350 with a host of performance upgrades and lightweight parts to make a special "race" model. These race versions were distinguished by an "R" in the CSM number rather than an "S" that was seen on the standard street cars; thus the GT350R was born. The formula resulted in Chevrolet being dethroned by Jerry Titus piloting a GT305R to the championship. After a successful season capturing the B Production Championship, Shelby felt Ford wasn't doing enough to celebrate the achievement and took matters into his own hands. He loaded up a 289 Cobra, a 427 Cobra, a GT350 street car, a GT40, a Cobra Daytona and this GT350R with SFM #5R213. Dubbed the "Cobra Caravan," the cars went on a 12-city tour to promote the racing success of the Shelby cars. After the tour was over in 1966, 5R213 was sent, along with four other R models, to a group of wealthy businessmen in Peru, who wanted to form a spec racing series of their own. The car was campaigned in numerous Alpine-style races, including a Sixth Place finish in the inaugural running of the Caminos Del Inca in 1966. In 1984, three of the cars were bought back to the U.S. by Richard Cohen and Gary Nufer. They essentially had to be smuggled aboard a Peruvian military plane into Miami to avoid being seized or cut up by the DEA, but, once stateside, all three cars found new owners. In 1998, 5R213 was purchased by Jay Bentley, who commissioned it to be restored and prepped for vintage racing; however, he sold it before completion to Corey Lawson. Lawson then went on to have it restored to concours specifications, with the intent to show it in 2004. It changed hands again before the current owner acquired it and commissioned John Brown of Thoroughbred Restorations to restore it to the highest possible standards in 2017. Once complete, the car took Gold at the SAAC-42 Concours and the 2017 Shelby Mid America Meet, as well as MCA Gold at the Grand Nationals the same year, making it an elusive "Triple Crown" winner in the Shelby world. With only 20 or so known to exist of the original 36 R models made, these are some of the most prized cars among Shelby collectors. Additionally, being featured in the Cobra Caravan makes this one of just four R models with Shelby factory history. With the combination of a Triple Crown concours winner and extensive history and significance, 5R213 is the definition of a blue-chip collector car.
