Up For Auction / Re: Last first gen GT350 up for auction

I haven't looked closely at the pictures so this car might not be a perfect example but if you had a car like this and the original frame was unrestorable what do you do? Is it still the same car on a different frame? Does it make it worth a lot less?

Interestingly this car is here in my town right now and I own a clean, unmolested, unraced 63 R code, but I'm a little nervous driving it. Not because it's fast but because I'm worried about scratching it or something. I'd much rather have an old unrestored racer that I could take to the track and occasionally drive and not worry about getting a chip in the paint. Rusty frame is a no go, though. Friend of mine and I are trying to see the car in person and if it doesn't make reserve on BAT, who knows, maybe a trade could happen. Will report back here if I do go see the car.

I will take a pessimistic guess...someone did their research after they wrote the check.
These cars have lots of tiny mods all over them and the original pieces are hard/expensive to find. I passed on one because it had been a gasser at one point and they had cut the firewall to set the engine back. I couldn't get a straight answer as to how much of the body had been replaced. I suspected all of it.....

Looks like this one has had an expensive restoration done. It's weird because at the same auction a nice R code (non-lightweight) Galaxie got bid up to $80k and didn't meet the reserve.

This car sold for only $88k at Mecum earlier this year. Not sure why it sold so low.

No it is not so apparently the H is not cammer specific..

Pat

So, from what I can gather there is no way to ID a block as a cammer without removing the heads. Does anybody want to correct me on that?

My C5AE-H block has an H scratch on the back...

Pat

And is it a cammer? (I'm trying to learn how to identify one).

There was a 427 on Los Angeles Craigslist the other day (gone now). Had an H scratch. Guy wanted $6500 for it. Does that H scratch mean it was a cammer block? Man, someone got a real deal if that's the case.

ETA: 1965 CXXX-H block, did not appear to have cammer heads on it. Chrome valve covers. Single 4 barrel.

Came here to post this. I knew this would be expensive, but WOW! $65k with 2 days left. Sure would like to see what it ends up going into, or do you put it in a car, ever?
