1968 Shelby GT350/500/500KR / 68 Bucket Seat Recall
April 18, 2019, 10:18:35 PM
Some time ago I got a notice from Ford that my 68 was being recalled to correct a weakness in the seat hinges. I never brought the car to anyone for that. That wasn't gonna' happen.

Does anyone know what Ford did as a correction for the seats?

I have one disassembled now and the only thing I can see is that the is a hairpin clip that retains the joint together. Is that the part that was changed?

Does anyone here have a picture of what was contained in the "Seat Recall Kit" or know what was done to the seat?

None of the paint shops here will mix this for me. Are there anyone of the parts vendors offering this is quart cans? I haven't found any yet.  I've tried the rattle cans and it is inconsistent and really a waist of time.

1968 Shelby GT350/500/500KR / Front kick panels
March 31, 2019, 03:03:18 PM
I think I remember these panels as having had a patch of fabric insulation glued to them? I vaguely remember removing that because it would catch and tangle in the attaching screws?

My 67 panels show no evidence of having had that insulation?

Do any of you recall there being insulation glued to those panels?

I'm installing a new 68 tilt-column directional switch. I think it is a Scott Drake part but I bought it from Branda.

He has it listed as for a 68 and 69 tilt column.

It's strait forward except for one thing, the original column has ten wires. The new one has twelve.

Branda doesn't know why. I'm presuming that I just tie off the extra two wires.

I never noticed this until I went to install the wires into the plug.

Has anyone here run into this and come up with a solution?

I was trying to find Scott Drake's Tech support number but their site doesn't have that listed.

The Lounge / Tool for directional signal pins/plug
March 16, 2019, 03:39:25 PM
I had one of these things but the last time I used it was about 1875 during the US reconstruction after the Civil War. I haven't seen it. It could I sunk with the Arizona?

What is that thing called so I can do a search? I seemed to remember it MIGHT be a Radio Shack item?
Radio shack was open in 1875 right? Or was that 1975? I forget now?

And it's for my 68 GT350 so Coralsnake definitely knows and probably will gloat that he needs to help me with this? Probably.  ;)

The Lounge / koni shock mounting hardware
February 22, 2019, 05:01:32 PM
The mounting hardware that came with my Koni's for the fronts used rubber washers to center the bottom of the shock studs in the spring seat.

There's an issue there with that.

The holes provided in the spring seat for the shock studs are 1/2". The od of the studs is 3/8". As a result the shocks move too much in the seat.

OTHER THAN replacing those collared rubber washers, is there an alternative?

I'd actually consider it an adapter. A stepped flat washer with a 1/2" collar machined into a 3/4" washer.

If I had my choice, I'd look for delrin but I haven't found anything yet? Anyone?

SAAC Forum Discussion Area / adjustable ball joint

I need the torque and/or installation instructions on the Moog adjustable lower ball joint. What do I torque these things too or more correctly what do they get tightened too?

Where can I get one of these?

I'm installing a reproduction, Scott Drake, 67 Shelby steering wheel on my '68. It has the tilt/pop column.

I'm told that it will not "cancel" the turn signal, that I now will need to do that manually?

I know there are a few of you who have already done this mod. Have you been able to make the directional switch cancel?

The Lounge / thin head gasket
October 05, 2018, 07:25:35 AM
I'm searching for a thin head gasket, .020", to use with a 302 iron block and an aluminum head. So far all I can find is the standard Fel-Pro type, .040".

Can anyone here point me to one that as of yet is undiscovered by me?

I'm waiting for Cometic Tech to get back to me but haven't heard anything yet.

Years ago these thin head gaskets were very common and referred to as shim head gaskets.

CSX 2000 Series / 289 Competition camshaft
September 29, 2018, 07:33:25 AM
Does anyone know what camshaft(s) the "Race shop" was using on the competition engines they were building? Were the Weber carbed engines using the same cam?

I ran into someone yesterday that claims he was an original owner on a 69 with power windows. The discussion couldn't be more specific by me as to questioning more special items.

He claimed that he sold the car for $200k and bought his country house with that.

Is it possible that he had one of the engineering cars with the Cougar dash, red interior, etc.? He seemed to be insistent on the power windows.

He says it was documented and I haven't asked Liska if it rings any kind of a bell yet.

Any speculation on this? Says he had "Shelby's documentation" on the car so lots of "caution flags" went up.

Just curious on this. No big issues to raise.

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / 67 GT500 Thermostat housing

Is this supposed to be painted or natural as cast? I forgot and I am seeing both ways on engine pics.
I know I have blue paint on the intake manifold where the mask leaked right in that area.
#158
How would you refinish the original big block cast iron bell house?

It looks like originally they were about 50% painted engine blue overspray and about 50% just left in the natural cast iron?

If "you" want this thing to look decent, rather then "correct" what would you do?

I was thinking of first blasting the thing with sand blast media, yes Black Beauty Bob, then spraying it with Eastwood "cast iron" paint to reduce the rusting, then overspraying that with Ford Blue?

Opinions?

What about the access cover on the bottom? That should be black or natural steel? What is natural finish on that? Is it EG plated?

OK, thank you for the efforts to keep it up and running. I do appreciate that but one of the issues was that it was running on an archaic server.
I asked you that question and you side stepped an answer?
This is updated software but what about the server?
