CSX 2000 Series / Re: CSX2410 - from Barn to Concourse
December 22, 2021, 11:19:15 PM
CSX2177 gained flares decades ago and then by the 80's cut back doors. The only thing they removed was the 4" Sebring side pipes which I will be putting back!  I love the look of the USRRC/FIA body in a CSX2000 chassis and as you say the cost to remove those and return it to Day 1 would be a pretty penny, besides it had the Day 1 body for the first maybe 2 years of it's life before they started modifying it anyway The way I look at it is that it's been like this way longer then it was ever like Day 1 - that's why it's staying that way while I own and drive it!

Wanted to Buy / Re: Griffith Wanted
December 07, 2021, 08:09:39 PM
Word of caution on Griffith 200s - they made 190ish of them and not all of them are CREATED EQUAL! TVR parts are tough to find for the '64-'65 range of build. Also when Jack Griffith and Mark Donahue began the process of building/marketing this new version of their "COBRA killer" the 289 HIPO was the engine to have and Griffith wrote to Ford getting them to agree to selling them as crate engines. The first 32 or so were built mostly with these, but as Griffith Motorcars began to have a cash crunch and Jack saw the price tag for his new Griffith was a bit steep to some potential customers, he had an auto salesman's epiphany. He'd give the option for the base 289 4V (non-hipo 225hp) engine to be delivered in the car at a discount over the standard 271hp HIPO. In the end, the idea to spur sales may have worked short term, but it didn't saved him from other financial difficulty. As a result we don't know which cars has the more powerful engine as paperwork was seized when the NY state tax people came to close the business. The cars only have build sequence on their VIN tags with no indication what engine they may have been delivered with. IF you're lucky enough to have the original engine you can spot all of the telltale HIPO signs, but if you don't the only other way to tell a HP vs std 289 car is if you have the original FORD top loader dated to Summer '64. A close ratio code (HEH-T) will indicate originally equipped with the 271 HIPO, the wide ratio transmission will indicate 289 std. As with anything the 271HP equipped cars are more desirable and garner more as well as the first 32 (side vent equipped) built.

Wanted to Buy / Re: 289 Cobra parts wanted
December 07, 2021, 06:40:57 PM
Dan - The car was converted to race after purchase in June 1965 so I'd figure likely bought over the counter starting late summer into fall of 1965. Earliest remembrance from the 2nd owner was in 1969 we he brought it home for the first time, but he doesn't recall details - only it's presence on the car so I'm going with a 5 bolt later production housing was in it.

SAAC Forum Discussion Area / Re: Painting AVON CR6ZZ's
November 28, 2021, 12:17:31 PM
The single AVON painted on the rim is exactly like the original Goodyears my car was raced with for 2-3 decades. I want to drive it on the street, yet show it like this as well. PM Sent.

SAAC Forum Discussion Area / Painting AVON CR6ZZ's
November 27, 2021, 10:06:32 PM
I love the look of the old Goodyear Bluestreak tires and my car raced a lot with them through the 60's and 70's, but I understand the road use of them is less than desirable over the gold standard DOT approved AVON CR6ZZ's. My question is does anyone have pics of AVON's being painted up to look like vintage Goodyears with the blue lines on them? I'm toying with the idea, but not sure how they might might look...Any insight and photos would be much appreciated!

Parts For Sale / 289 COBRA Deluxe/Racing side curtains
November 16, 2021, 09:19:48 AM
Very rare original 289 COBRA deluxe/racing side curtains. These are bare aluminum framed much like the R model window frames (un-upholstered like the standard street versions an used for racing applications). They are in great shape for 50+ year old parts - both LH and RH curtains. Asking $1000 for the set + shipping.

I have a matching pair (LF/RF) of '65-'66 Mustang Fastback interior moldings. They are unbent and undented - really nice! These are tough to find these days if you're in need of one or both for your GT350 or Mustang. Asking $100 for the pair + shipping to your door.

CSX 2000 Series / Re: Cobra Registry
October 27, 2021, 08:39:53 AM
Thanks for Clarification Ned - if it's good enough for you...it's good enough for me! I assume the online database would also reveal any factory paperwork and any docs you maintain and possess as the official SAAC COBRA registrar?

So to be clear...what does the $100 regarding COBRA information get you that isn't in the most recent publishing of the registry? Looks like the site says to get access to the information it's $100 PER YEAR. In other words at the current release rate of a new registry every 10 years I'm paying a total of $1,000.00 over that ten years to have access to research/update the cobra data? It doesn't seem to make sense to me.
