The 68 Mustang brochure on pg 12 shows a 8,000 tach and states available with any V8.

For 67 only the 289 Hi-Po got the 8,000 - the other V8' s got the 6,000.
All Shelby's were 8,000.

I had a 68 Mustang GT with a 390 4-speed had a 8,000 tach.
