I honestly think you would be better off just swapping for the right BB transmission but the place to look for parts if you insist would be at https://4speedtoploaders.com/store/4speedparts.html.

David Key has reproduced many if not all parts for the Ford T&C transmissions.
Doug - I think 68stangcjfb is looking for a WIDE ratio big spline top loader, which of course Ford never made.

68stangcjfb - I made my big spline, WR top loader by taking a donner WR input and having the gear welded to a big spline input shaft by Liberty Gears (https://libertysgears.com). It worked great and I'd still be using it if I hadn't switched to a Tremec TKO-600 to get a 5th gear and increased torque capacity (my 427 make 522 lb-ft of torque). Best of luck with your project.

If you are planning to use a used set of the stock Ford adjustable shocks, I can tell you from first hand experience that the Koni shocks are far superior.

Leave the stock shocks in the box and use the Koni shocks if you drive the car.
Oh yeah, he drives the car!

I remembered someone else vaguely that had also done this but didn't remember the specifics. Perhaps it was you? :o

I think it is a really nice mod since hardly anyone seems to need the backseat. You can always keep the rear seat and include it when you sell the car?

The '80s is when I put in the 66 panel. I put in a '65 panel around 1976 or so. It was the only one available back then that I knew of. It is actually not a bad location for the spare but at the time I was autocrossing the car and the tech guys would make me take it out anyway so that really was a pain to do constantly.

Could have been me, not sure.  What forced me into doing this mod was the fact that when the back seat was occupied, I'd sometime catch the the rear fender lips with the back tires.  And with the exhaust pipes running directly below the rear floorpan, people could not ride in the back due to frying their butts off.  So I make it so no one could ride in the back...

I have a sneaking suspicion that Branda is going to sell a bunch of these 66 rear panels real soon.

Ironically yes BUT I did this like 35 years ago so where has everyone been 'til now? Huh?  8)

Shelbydoug,

I put a '66 Branda try in my GT500 back in the eighties.  The secret is that the rear seat dimensions are the same from '65 through '69.  I fabricated brackets that bolts up in the same location that the aft fold down seat panel installs.  Holds everything nice and snug.

I've been using this style compressor for decades only a homemade version. Much better than the hook type. Highly recommended as not only is the coil spring protected, so is the mechanic. That is the more important consideration. Do you realize how much energy is tied up in a spring under compression? Severe injury can result if it suddenly becomes uncontained. Don't risk it, go with Mr. Gains recommendation.

deathsled, glad you like my website. I've got 46 and 45 years of stories respectively between the two cars. That should keep me busy for quite some time, provided I can remember them all. Current project is restoring the original engine for 6S817. The block has been sitting in my garage for for decades and I noticed it wasn't assembling itself (what's up with that?) so I figured I'd better get to it. So can I claim that I'm rebuilding the original engine when all that is original to the car is the block, the connecting rods, and the rocker covers?

Take a look at my radiator restoration / modification webpage. Clearly visible in photos R184956 and R184852 is the original radiator core. Proof positive that this is a two row core all the way.

http://www.s-techent.com/Shelby_Web_Pages//66_GT350H//GT350H.htm and navigate to "Radiator Restoration".

Jeff,

Thanks, very interesting. Would it then be safe to say that the stamp out in front of the head is for the final assembly of the complete engine?

1966 Shelby GT350/GT350H / Engine build dates

OK, there are two places in which my original block is stamped with assembly date codes: 1) just in front of the left side cylinder head and 2) on the oil pan rail near the block casting number and casting date. Both are 5L3 (November 3, 1965). Would one of these be for the short block and the other for the complete engine assembly? If so, which would be which? If I were to speculate, I'd say that the one on the pan rail would be for the short block making the other for the complete engine. Thanks for any information.

For more on the complex issue of DSOs, check out the following: 1967shelbyconvertible.com. The site author has spent several years studying DSOs as they apply to the 1967 Shelby automobiles and has drawn some interesting conclusions based on factual data as well as providing explanations for apparent anomalies. He has been able to correlate SAAC's records with Ford's production database.

Hey Dave,

Thanks for taking a few shots of my car (SFM6S817). Hope you liked the fifty year patina. A bit rough around the edges but it is a driver. We just did the transmission and it is slated to get a new (old) engine sometime in the next year (using the original block and rods). So much fun to cruise!

While at a car show last night, I had a cheese burger in his honor. I told this to the waitress when she took our orders. I don't think she knew who he was.

RIP. Hoping you find your lost shaker of salt and eat all the cheese burgers you can in paradise...
