I made the same decision to put a '66 package tray in my '67 G.T.500 to prevent my 235R-60-15 tires from hitting the fender lips.

I am confused. How does a package tray give me more fender clearance?

Huh? It has absolutely nothing to do with the inner wheel wells. All it does is fill the void left by the removed seat assembly.

I was kinda wondering the same thing......... (que the head scratch).....

If I run .040 or .045 will I see just a little more engine temp on the gauge ?

I doubt I would go .045, but seriously thinking about .040.

Thanks all.

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / HEI Plug Gaps ?
March 09, 2020, 04:47:10 PM
Guys,

HEI conversion done and running very well..... just one question since I am getting conflicting plug gap information.

Being the stock plug gap spec is .028 to .032 for points, I have always been under the impression to add about .005 when converting to HEI...... so I gapped my new plugs at .035 during the install. A local dirt track engine builder told me that I should run them up to .040 even .045 for more spark and the Hi Po will be much happier.

What say the Fourm experience here ?

As always.... thanks for your advise.

I run Shell Formula 10w40 and add my own ZDDP so I know it is in there.

Usually Redline or one of the other brand name ZDDP additives. I use Shell since that what the PO ran during his ownership, and he believed the PO told him the same thing. I also like the detergent package that Shell has.

I'm sure some of the specialized oil distributors contents are accurate, but like a friend schooled me long ago.... I don't trust them, I'll put it in myself and then I know it's in there. I certainly could not disagree with him.

I don't want to glue them to the head.

I doubt you will get that recommendation from anyone here....... personally a little slather of grease on both sides of the gasket will give you the holding properties along with sealing and subsequent release you require.

I guess I should have mentioned the shaft play is normal due to the rotor and cap indicators.

My only concern is the gapping of the new plugs for the HEI, per my last.

Thanks

I have looked all over too..... both 500 and 350 seem not to be mf'd by anyone anymore.

I sure do like the look of the old rubber model mats.

If you decide to do the 1" lower springs, who's springs are best as several suppliers advertise them ?

Since I'm sure we have members that have done it both ways..... how does the end result differ ?

Also what does this do to the alignment specs ?

Thank You,

Thanks Bill for your embellishment of the picture.

Yes I can see it now. Apparently the second owner must have been mistaken. Unfortunately I was not there, but I wish I was. The only thing that could have possibly happen is the original owner had the dealer installed a/c updated/changed if it didnt keep up with the FL heat.... who knows.

I am attaching pics of the a/c fittings in the firewall as it is today. I capped them just to keep junk out, since the a/c components are boxed up.

Thanks.
