Bob- I was always under the impression these shock tower mounts w\washers were installed at SA but after reading your post it looks like ford did it in San Jose for cars being sent to SA for their GT-350 conversion. Is this correct? Been a long week,  I might be interpreting your message incorrectly. On a side note - is there any vintage video or YouTube video available to watch which displays the cars being built at SA in 1965 or 66? I've seen pictures but video would be cool to watch too.  thank you for your time, Fred

sorry to be posting on such an old thread but I'm sure someone is wanting this information to document on my recent purchase. 6S2227 has washers on LH side and none on RH side (on beehive shock mount). I purchased my car from the same owner since 1972 and he stated he never removed them. My car has been sitting in a garage unmolested since 1988ish. Equipped with vintage old Koni's but they are a HD weird size, they don't look consistent with koni of the day.

I've seen this before on GT-350's - one with & one without. I looked at a red 1966 GT-350 from Orlando mustang for possible purchase a few years ago and it was just like mine.
I can provide pics of my beehives if someone needs for documentation? I'm new to the forum so if I've violated forum protocol by posting to such old thread let me know. Im new to SAAC and enjoying reading all posting on 1966 \65 GT-350's.

I've always wanted to ask this question to someone which really knows. When looking at restored GT-350's and mustangs from 1966. Sometimes you see the coil mounted on the passenger side and sometimes on the drivers side. what gives? I'm guessing maybe the carry over cars (because 65 mustangs) might be different than those manufactured in 1966? maybe mustangs had coils placed different than GT-350's? Could be ford changed placement during the 1966 build year?  Please school me!  Thanks, Fred

My comments are a little off subject..... but my two cents worth, with the amount of knowledge and documentation known on early GT-350's and easy of verification. Any person which purchases a fake car deserves it. Maybe 25 or 30 years ago (before internet) buyers were cheated. But in this day and time where a 1965 GT-350 can fetch $300,000 or more. I would think all potential buyers would do their home work to establish the authenticity of their purchase. 3 weeks ago I purchased my first 1966 GT-350 (not the more coveted 65 model) after looking for a car for almost 20 years. In all this time looking at cars I never experienced anyone pitching a fake as the real deal. I'm sure it happens but rarely. Like I said my 2 cents- Thanks for listening.
PS these Shelby forums are incredibly informative I learn something technical every time I read postings. Truly amazing!

Thank you all for answering my question about rivets. I've not started restoration on my car yet but when I do, would like to use the same rivet set up. If anyone knows a source for replacements identical rivets,  I would appreciate that information.

Hey I have a question about tachometer wiring. On original 1966 GT-350 cars, how was the tach wired? using wires under dash like a rally pack? or driven off negative side of coil?
thanks, Fred

1966 Shelby GT350/GT350H / Re: tire recomendation
March 01, 2019, 02:25:34 PM
I'm using BFG radial TA 225\60\14 very successfully. For my taste, the 215\60 little too small & 235\60 little too large. Plus the 225\60\14 works very well with the 1" Shelby drop. I have two 1966 FB & Convertible clone cars and one GT-350. All three have the 10 spoke wheels @ 14".
The actual GT-350 I purchased recently has 235\60\14 all around but the car did not have the 1" drop. Doesn't seem to have any clearance issues. Still after my restoration is completed will go with 225\60\14 BFG. To my knowledge they are the only tire manufacturer offers this size.
My 2 cents! Fred

J-Speegle, Yes you are correct the Hose adapter which exits the wheel housing is installed backwards too. Very ugly. I will over photo document  both hose adapter mount points and during the restoration mount to my taste which would be reversed. If the next owner wants to reverse down the line they can? Additionally I plan to install 1" Shelby drop too because I like the way it performs and looks too.
To All, Thank you for your contribution to my tiny rivet request. I'm absolutely blown away with amount of incredible information SAAC member's have on GT-350's. I look forward to utilizing members in the future with possible questions. You guys are amazing! Fred

Thanks for the responses. I've attached another picture from the LH side showing the upper side scoop rivets. It used the same style rivet all around. I guess the reason I want to know, once I start my restoration I desire to use the same rivet. Notice in the picture the hose adapter not riveted to the inside of inner quarter rather pushed through the outside (prior scoop install) and riveted in. Never seen that either! My car currently in un-restored condition and should be equipped as when manufactured.  I plan to swap the hose adapter to the inside during restoration because I don't like the way this looks. Once I remove the interior I will post a picture of inside rivet hardware too.  maybe because my car was one the last of 150 built they did something different? Did I read something about experimenting with glue on side scoops? if someone has seen these rivets before or can source them --let me know. Thank you for the valuable information- Fred

Hopefully someone can identify this pictured rivet. After looking for a GT-350 for 20 years finally able to purchase 6S2227 a few weeks ago from the previous owner since 1972.  As I've been assessing the car- I noticed the rivets used  to hold the side scoops are unlike what i have seen on real GT-350's in the past. Typically you see the standard aluminum rivet. I've not started disassembly yet so i don't know the configuration on the inside behind fiberglass panel. The attached picture displays the dark blackish colored rivet. It has an extended head on it. The previous owner of 47 years stated this is the way he received the car. I have a good eye and does not seem to ever been wrecked. Both side scoops have the same rivet setup on both sides, top and bottom. Can anyone identify? Thank you Fred
