1969-1970 Shelby GT350/500 / GT350 engine tag
January 15, 2022, 08:01:48 AM
I have my engine tag mounted behind my coil on the pass side head above the alt(non AC car). Is this the correct mounting position? Thanks. Gary

Concours Talk / 65-67 rivets
January 06, 2022, 12:11:13 PM
OK this has become a topic of discussion. Are rivets to hold the Shelby tag to the apron unique for these years? People use that excuse for not drilling out 1 rivet. I understand as I would never do it on a car like Vern's old 67 GT500 survivor but what about a restored car? Are these rivets unique or are they easily replaced as I have found numerous black rivets on Amazon. Thanks in advance. Always trying to learn. Gary

1968 Shelby GT350/500/500KR / Seat belts
January 02, 2022, 11:32:09 AM
These belts came with my friend's VERT. The long center one appears to be a vert should harness belt(spring not working to retract). Is that correct? The one next to it I circled a bracket. Any idea why that seat belt is that way with the bracket? Thanks. Gary

1968 Shelby GT350/500/500KR / convertible scoops
December 22, 2021, 06:21:02 AM
Would the scoop in the pic below with the "style line" in it be correct for a March 13 build? Thanks. Gary

Does someone have a clear pic of the throttle return spring bracket? Also what is the finish? Thanks. Gary

1968 Shelby GT350/500/500KR / SHOCK TOWER CAPS
December 12, 2021, 10:48:39 AM
Here is something weird. While blasting these caps this was the end result. The caps are pretty nice but have what appears to be copper on them. At first I thought it was bondo but when I filed it it was metal. The areas on the one cap where I filed it is misleading as it looks white but it isn't. Any thoughts?  Gary

1968 Shelby GT350/500/500KR / header support brackets
December 07, 2021, 10:39:54 AM
Here are 2 bare metal brackets and 2 painted brackets. The painted ones are repos I believe. The media blasted ones look to be originals. The question is the threaded holes for the bolts to hold the header to the brackets: Should the surface area where the threaded holes are should they be flat? They are flat on the repos. On the originals they are not. The car was hit in the front at one time so do not know if that would have any affect on why these areas are not flat if they are supposed to be. Gary

1968 Shelby GT350/500/500KR / Vin stampings.
December 07, 2021, 07:02:46 AM
OK, I'm going to possibly open up a can of worms here. 1968 GT350. 60K miles. Known owners  all state original engine and had not been out. Car never restored but fixed and painted due to accidents. 302 auto. The Vin on the engine although hard to read in pic MATCHES the trans. block date code. assy date code heads etc all match appropriately to March 13 build. With the grime and original Shelby components on the engine(had autolite carb on AL intake) we have no reason to believe the engine isn't original. So check out the numbers stamped. Has anyone seen anything like this before? Gary

On an automatic what is the finish on the housing, top plate that screws into the housing and the lever that the shift handle attaches to in the pics below? The lever the threaed portion to the bushing I believe is clear zinc by looking at it or cad but what about the outer part that is welded to it and is outside the shifter housing and seeing the elements? Thanks. Gary

I'm media blasting the front bumper brackets on a 68 Shelby. In doing so I  unearthed red paint under the black and  some of it wasn't covered(RED car). Is this just a case of a sloppy repaint of the car or were those Shelby bumper brackets mounted and then the parts painted on the car creating overspray on the brackets. I'm betting a sloppy re-paint. Gary.

Up For Auction / 8T03S187655 68 GT500 vert on BaT
November 24, 2021, 11:07:32 AM
I'm looking at this car on Bring a Trailer and the seats appear to be comfortweave to me but not the original style shown on thecoralsnake. Is this the repo confortweave(I know comfortweave isn't correct for a vert)? Thanks. Gary

1968 Shelby GT350/500/500KR / window cranks
November 24, 2021, 08:26:15 AM
The "shorty" door window cranks are C8AB-760323-A. What is the eng number cast into them? Thanks. Gary

I got to thinking who owns what. So I can attach a car to a forum member. NBD if you don't own one as enthusiasm is the mantra of SAAC.  Also in the description a brief history if you like like is it "papered" in MCA, SAAC, Team Shelby. Thanks in advance for all who participate. Almost like a virtual Shelby meet.
I'll go first. My vert I have owned since 1985. MCA concours driven gold in 2003 but like it says at the bottom "not any more" for a few reasons. I restored it myself except for outer paint(I painted the underside trunk and engine bay) and top. Drivetrain original and detailed with new seals. Interior mostly original. Gary

1969-1970 Shelby GT350/500 / Roll bar designer
June 21, 2021, 06:31:54 AM
Yesterday while at the Motor Muster at Greenfield Village in Dearborn I met the designer of the 68-70 Shelby vert roll bar designer. As a young "kid" at Ford he was given the task of designing a roll bar for the vert as they already had one for the fastback. He was also tasked later to make the 67 Snake in the Shelby fender emblem into a 3d design. He credited the metal men for the final product but it was his design also. First the 68 Fender emblems then the snakes found on 69-70 cars. Over the years it has been cool to meet many who have designed this or that on these cars. He was also tasked with designing the 1994 Mustang.  Gary

1969-1970 Shelby GT350/500 / Deluxe seat belts.
June 12, 2021, 04:46:25 AM
So after watching the topic on the KR and 69 Mach1 being sold  on that you tube video I have one about seat belts.  Should all Shelbys in 1969 and Mach1s have the chrome ring around the seat belts? I have seen them both ways and thought the chrome ring on Mach1s were another interior option package. Looking at photos on SAAC NV I have seen some Shelbys without the chrome ring and seen more than a few Mach1s without it. So was there a deluxe(chrome ring) seat belt option on the Mach1s in 69 and 69 Shelbys without it is just another factory error or owner installed during resto error? I bring it up because Jeff Y mentioned it in that you tube video on that 69 Mach1 not having the chrome ring around the belts. My 69 Mach1 does not have them. Gary

Well it appears corporate America is getting more stupid by the year. No chain tire stores in the Detroit area will mount a 1970s tire on a rim. It doesn't matter your intention as they cannot mount a tire over 10 years old. Safety issue. I asked have they ever mounted an old "good" tire and have it blow up? I told them to mount it and I'd fill it at home. Its a spare that will never hit the ground. So where are people going to mount their tires? Gary

OK, here is an UPDATED list for my friend's GT350 auto vert. Some parts he has already bought off of SAAC members here like rocker moldings, DS side scoop, hood locks dash assy, wheels, etc.  Thanks for all of you who responded and who sold him parts.  By the parts he has bought so far he is really serious on having one of the best 68 GT350 verts around.  Gary
