That rear quarter panel appears to me to be riveted on to the upper section of the original panel , showing no sign of a complete replacement quarter panel, which says it would have been some type of lap joint done, which means body filler would have to run the outer length of that joint, if I'm mistaken please point out if a different approach was used.
pop riveted into place then welded as witnessed by the burn marks at the overlap edges?

Spoke with owner/seller this a.m.

He is very well-versed  and in the know

He tells me that he has a guaranteed offer on the table for $150,000 cash so if the auction does not exceed that amount, he will be taking that person's standing cash in a bag offer
Really? What happens if he lets the auction end and it ends at 115K say? He doesn't sell to the high bidder/winner(not a reserve auction) I'd think he could be sued. I do most of my work myself and I sure wouldn't pay 150K for that car with the butchered shock towers and needing a total resto. Am I off on these?  So is the seller just full of crap? If he wanted 150K that should be his reserve. I don't see "reserve not met" on the high bid.

The seller just informed me they want to get paid in cash..

Good luck with that...

Kinda complicates things....
A wire transfer is the same as cash to the seller but suspect he doesn't want a profit paper trail on the car.

We had the 13,000 mile  1969 white boss 429 that seller is talking about that was sitting next to this shelby. We had it on display at my building when we had open house at our first indiana fall classic show. The car cleaned up and we got it running again and everything back on car to be a complete all original car and is now in the california all original once collection along with other original unrestored boss 429s. We needed a white car to try and get all colors of boss 429s and only need a 69 black jade and 70 grabber orange and 70 pastel yet to complete collection so if anybody knows of those colored boss 429s finders fees will be paid for unrestored cars only. thanks
Seraphim's black jade car is not for sale(same with the 71 Hemi) but is it considered a car worthy of that collection?

So it doesn't say "reserve not met" so it must be.

Not a Shelby but of possible interest, this 65 k-code convertible sold at B-J for $165k.

Nice modified Mustang. Not exactly original, you do wonder if modifieds are more popular and expensive than originals these days.
Mike, look what you sold your 67 tanker for and look what Jeff Hayes got for his his restod mod 67(double). I guess the question is when and if these trend fall out of favor how much do those restomods drop? I am still shaking my head every time an "Eleanor" crosses the block for more than real 67 Shelbys.

notice the color difference in the repo blue  stripe. That is consistent as originals "flash" a different color.

Thanks as you got the early style but then again I cannot say how long that lasted or 2 suppliers or whatnot. It is a nice correct rare piece definitely priced right. I've seen them at one time pop 900 but have pulled back since then. I'll never understand seeing a 150-200K plus  68 Shelby wearing a 34 dollar POS Scott Drake shift knob.

Perkins has this one on Ebay. More times than not you see the slashes on them(raised) and this one has the number 2 on it. It also has the Galaxie pattern and could be a  service iteration. I'm posting just to show you some have a number on the bottom. Does your knob have the groove in it?  To be clear the most common ones I have found for production era 68-69 have the groove in them and a number on the bottom. I got about 5-6 with at least 1 NOS and one like new. No pics at work on my CPU to show of mine. While only a couple of part numbers were used there were iterations going on right into the 90s when the last iteration had a silver and not chrome ring which is the one Scott Drake repoed. Part went obsolete IIRC in the 90s.

This pic is of an early 68 knob without the ring(groove),. It has no numbers or slashes on the bottom. Chris once told me early carts got this type of knob. Now the numbers on the bottom is NOT a part number but a single number clocked with 3 slashes like a 1 or a 2 at 12,3,6,and 9 positions. I'm trying to find a pic to show the bottom of the later knobs not like your knob. The one in the topic link is the later 68 style with the groove. https://www.saacforum.com/index.php?topic=5280.msg45103#msg45103

There has never been a part # engraved on the nos knobs I have owned. My friend has a early 69 mach that has this knob. Only the ford box ever had the part # listed. I have had 4 of these 2 in the orig box.

My guess is that if you own a car before July this would work fine. If a later car then that someone has to prove the rounded 3 was correct for there car. With no proof then it will be listed as a 68-69 knob.
See this one here? It has no number on the bottom or slashes. It also doesn't have the ring around it. To me this is a very early knob for 68. https://www.ebay.com/itm/386711695974?hash=item5a09d03266:g:qeoAAOSwiBlls9jd&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAA8HVRyM5eSgTezDkOg6ncCVggAqARDmu8pS6a%2F%2FdNETKdd0m0gtdpQjeQ22mQETu%2BL0saXXJPpw4kA6dRTTE8TgOQfi6szXFE9hdA%2FTDmpvynvB30ICUbx7Rxk2avmsBc%2BxKbJfzwJVBHOtXdtuj4pvNquIXrcSPx%2BtF04LW7gru3gAZNkAjXRZR%2BQ0R%2FGY%2FnbZW6jI%2F9nKBjhD%2FCaq18FhxC72tBbvlDyfJ%2FiUNNvYMdf5HYzx04WDfT1byvFofFh6Et7cDzxlFaPKgUD6%2B9QStC0zHRXbHJdi6OERABjUWfblqtlRs%2Fj1SKVaU3U4UQyA%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR5aR9_ytYw

Heres my experience with the Benson

Its not like an archive in a typical sense. A public library is more descriptive in my opinion. Things are filed under "collections" so if Joe Cool worked for Ford as an illustrator for twenty years, he may have donated his collection of work. Joes early years might include one drawing of a Mustang and a hundred drawings of other projects. Things like a Thunderbird taillight from 1982.

Heres the issue if you dont specifically what Joe donated, you are going to potentially handed a box with a 10 of his drawings and never see the Mustang. If you dont know who Joe is...you will be shooting in the dark.

I did see some very cool stuff spending a couple days there, but my experience was not filled with success.

I dont think they are going to you hand a box marked "green hornet project -Shelby American"
Do you remember where it was located? I know decades ago Ed used to go through the Henry Ford centennial library looking for Ford docs.  on Mich avenue in Dearborn IIRC. https://dearbornlibrary.org/

Do you have a side photo of the knob? No slashes or numbers on the bottom I'm wondering if it is a very early 68.
