1967 Shelby GT350/500 / floor drain plugs.
March 04, 2024, 12:48:38 PM
Are the floor drain plugs for a 67 Mustang and Shelby the same from all 3 plants? Hard to find pics for the Dearborn plant. Here is a pic of  a car Vern sold on BaT. 67 Shelby(SJ plant). Thanks

A repro 69/70 Shelby wheel has a updated DOT rim with a safety lip and and the aluminum center (which is exact)has a steel slug cast into it so that the center can be welded to the rim. The so called restored wheel has to use the updated DOT rim with safety lip and instead of rivets a cap screw is threaded into the the original center if it is not too brittle or corroded . Both repro and restored wheels are deficient in the same places compared to factory original . At the end of the day the restored wheels has almost the same repro parts in it as the repro  wheel. Consequently in concours nether wheel is any better then the other. Restoration cost is comparable to the cost of a new repro wheel. So the question is why would anyone buy a set of used 69/70 wheels and pay substantial money for them and then spend a substantial amount more to have them restored and end up with basically the same thing as the repro wheel ? If you buy a set of original 69 /70 Shelby wheels they had better be good enough as is to use for your purposes regardless if for show or pleasure driving.  If you have to restore the wheels you are dollars ahead to just buy the repro wheels to begin with because you will end up with the same thing without the extra expenditure of money.
Only those easily fooled by a snake oil salesman would restore their wheels now.

Notice on original cars the wiring for the trunk light has body color paint on it. Original bullet ends were taped to the inside of the trunk lid so on original paint cars there will be a witness area where the end was taped.

Don't be fooled by people selling repo fiberglass and comparing it to originals. Repo parts have no real value as opposed to original parts. Apples and oranges.

Did all 68 390s have that vacuum module on the side of the air cleaner? I have pulled air cleaners off of 68 XL and Galaxies(still have one) and it didn't have that vacuum module and hole in the air cleaner. Sorry, I'm also off subject but don't know where else to ask that.

Pete,
Oops!  I just realized you were asking about the car # in reply # 8.

That is a picture of Phil Quinn's car at an earlier MCACN event.  His car is # 2686 as Gary mentioned in reply #11 (Reply # 11 has pictures of my car at MCACN 2023, but includes Phil's Marti report in the same reply)

Sorry for the confusion.

Mike Stearns
Hi  Mike, I wish I could have met you there by your car. My pics I blew up the marti report of 2686. Here it is. 500 mile car. Again, I wished I took more pics. The owner(Phil) was gracious enough to let me get up real close but when I am running around MCACN I tend to not take as many pics as I like and still end up with hundreds. What is interesting is look at the Marti report and out of 641 total 70 FBs(Gt350 and 500s) 172 had R-code and "6" trans. 96 or 98 were drag pack cars(doesn't say if auto and 4 speed combined but assume as such?). That lends to what Ed said as they being more expensive so more left to convert to 70s.

Who knew? Ed was interested in drag pak convertibles? 😃
These photos gave it away to me . First one Ed's wedding. Second one 2 of his at 100 years Ford show. The trunk protective strip out of one of those 2 cars at the 2003 show  is in my vert now.

Yep that car and another with black interior same combo came from same NJ area recently restored by bob wilson so thats 3 70 coral dragpacks  4 speed shelby fastbacks that exist good looking kool cars.
Did you read the Marti report on the 500 mile original car? Says 98 with 428SCJ drag pack for the 1970 Shelby FB. Is that correct? Here are pics of the Bob Wilson restored car you just mentioned Ed.  Last pic is the Marti from the 500 mile all original car #2686.

I tried to post a question, which was denied. The seller states: "..the car has a lien on it,.." as an excuse for why the first sale fell apart. I was asking if it still has a lien on it since it is advertised as implying a "clean title".  I guess we can't ask about the title?
In the main description it says the car has a lien on it. JUst before the videos. "There is a lien on the title, and the seller's lender will need to be paid off before the title can be transferred to the next owner."
Also I see a question asking about the title from Feb 28th

Well your ad says 2 5/8ths. If so I believe that would be 1967 as 1968 gauges are 2 1/8 dia. Yours look 2 1/8?

Here are some pics of my original deck lid. Repos don't have holes for the bumpers although someone could add them. Repos don't have the hole for map light wiring. Other holes missing in repo deck lid inner structure. There are other nuances also when compared.
