Thanks for the input.

Everything looks consistent with the glass as far as wear / scratches. I would have thought the 8G date on the rear glass would be OK as well as the windshield. The side glass dates were my concern.

From what I can tell, all sheet metal is original and all fiberglass looks to be original. Car originally shipped to Scottsdale, AZ and later sold to second owner in
Newark, DE. Does have some drag race history at DELMAR Dragway in 1976. (Have a few pictures, but looking for more.)

Any additional comments and input is appreciated.

Thank you.

I've owned 04412 for 38 years and started to check items to see if they are original to the car. Looking at the glass, it appears to be original, however the date codes and orientation of the stamp are of concern. What I have is as follows:

Rear glass: 8G (Can read from exterior)
Passenger window: 7G (Can read from interior)
Passenger vent: 7H (Can read from interior)
Windshield: 8G (Can read from interior)
Drivers window: 7L (Can read from interior)
Drivers vent: 7H (Can read from exterior)

Is it common for the stamps to be mixed exterior and interior read? Do the side window dates seem OK for a July 26th 1968 build? Car was schedule to be built on July 23rd, but was 3 days late. Would have expected 68 date glass?

Any comment or insight is appreciated.

Thank you.

Looks like a tank done for a new style fuel bladder with standard oval fill plate.

I did a fuel cell inside the R-model tanks back in 1996. Currently having a new bladder being fabricated by Fuel Safe to fit the R-model containers. Will post photos if anyone is interested. Already promised a few forum members some photos.

1968 Shelby GT350/500/500KR / GT 500KR fan clutch
December 12, 2019, 08:43:11 AM
Does anyone have a late June/ July KR with 4-spd and AC that can check their fan clutch engineering number? My fan clutch needs rebuilt / replaced, and I do not think it is original to the car. It is a E-C8OE-B and information I have so far is the correct fan clutch for AC car is either C8ZX-A or C8OE-C. My car is 04412, so I'd like verification on any cars close in production.

Any experience with the reproduction fan clutches currently being sold?

All information is appreciated. Thank you.

I'm wondering if anyone could verify if my spare wheel and jack / hardware would be correct for a very late 68 KR. (August 23rd build date)

The wheel is a 67 date from what I can tell and is a 15 x 6 Kelsey Hayes with FoMoCo stamp.

I'm pretty sure the j-bolt and wing nut is correct, but not sure about the wheel and jack?

Unable to post pictures on the site, so if you can email me at gt350bp@bellsouth.net I can forward photos for review / comments.

Thank you.

Stephen,

Good morning!

I think I saw it advertised awhile back and it included all the under dash components. I'm just looking for the engine brackets and idlers, as my cars A/C was removed when it was a drag car. All under dash components are intact and original.

Thank you.

Wanted to buy 68 FE A/C brackets and idler pulleys. Do not need the cast C7SA bracket, but will buy all or pieces.

Thank you.

1968 Shelby GT350/500/500KR / KR detailing questions
November 30, 2019, 04:12:47 PM
Trying to correct a few detailing issues under the hood of my GT 500KR that I have owned for 38 years. The questions are as follows:

1.) Is there a correct orientation of the ram air seal? Seal has a splice and an approximate 5/8" diameter through hole in the seal. Is the hole and splice oriented in any certain direction?

2.) Should there be a battery bracket from the inner apron to the battery hold down stud? My car has no sign of ever having a bracket, but there is a 3/16" diameter hole that aligns with the second fender bolt on the passenger side, 1" down from the top of the inner apron. Old photos show the hole, but nothing attached? Too far back on the apron for a bracket?

Any input or pictures will be appreciated.

Thank you.

I'm investigating a NAPA battery that I have been told works well with the Autolite topper. A friend has one in his 67 GT 500 without any issues. Will advise next week when I visit my local NAPA store.

1965 GT350/R-Model / Re: 1965 fuel pumps
November 17, 2019, 10:35:08 AM
Bob,

Thank you for the answer. I'm wondering how the SW 240 fuel pump was wired on the early cars as delivered from Shelby American? I do not recall seeing any early R-models with separate fuel pump switches, so I assume the fuel pump is wired direct to the ignition switch? I wired my fuel pump to a separate switch with an indicator light in the dash. Fuel pump is actuated and pumps up to 6 1/2 psi for starting and running at all times, but I've been recently seeing a +/- 2 psi fuel pressure fluctuation.

I think I found the problem in the custom Fuel Safe fuel bladder molded to the R-model fuel tank, as the bladder had been degraded by the fuel available in Florida. (93 octane with up to 10% alcohol.) Just sent the fuel tank back to Fuel Safe for repair / replacement on Friday. I think there is a restriction in the fuel pick-up in the bladder, as it would not drain when the fuel line was removed. Fuel cell bladder debris was found in the fuel when finally able to drain. No debris in the fuel filters. Custom fuel cell is about 4 1/2 years old with 5 year prorated warranty.

I'm trying to determine if I want to continue using a full time electric fuel pump or only for pressurizing and priming the fuel system to get fuel to the mechanical pump? I would need to determine an electric fuel pump that allows fuel flow when not activated. Current Mallory electric fuel pump restricts fuel pressure to the mechanical pump when not energized. If a SW 240 allows flow through when not in use, I think I may want to upgrade to an original SW 240?

Any input / suggestions are appreciated.

Thank you.

Does anyone reproduce and sell only the early battery hold down bracket? If not, does anyone have a drawing or sketch? I would like to look at the possibility to reproduce if there is interest?

I have photos of the late version ducts as fabricated by Tony Conover. email me at gt350bp@bellsouth.net, as I am unable to post pictures on the site. If someone can post, that would be great.

I do not believe any original cars mixed and matched early round ducts and the oval ducts. There are quite a few replicas with a mismatch of parts however.

Yes, it looks like the Palm Bay Ford car show is Sunday November 3rd, not the 10th!

Sorry about that!
