1968 Shelby GT350/500/500KR / 68 deluxe rear seat belt
« on: September 01, 2022, 06:03:55 PM »
Is there a suggested method to remove the metal seat belt cover to strip and allow for painting? My passenger side rear belt is scuffed from use and pulling it through the rear seat.

Thank you.

Yup, just finishing up refurbishing my interior rear panels and trim and definitely a bend in the trim strips. My driver's side trim is bent more than the passenger side, so roll bar is probably offset slightly towards the driver side.

Anyone looking for a nice set of original interior vents for a 67/68, there is a set on Daytona Craig's List. Looks like they are in the New Smyrna Beach area. Looks like they may have been taken apart at some point. Asking price is $400 for the pair.

Yup. Should have known to check the Coralsnake for the interior paint colors! Duh!

I'm glad to say that I spent about an hour each on my original vents with fine steel wool and they cleaned up very well. Will paint and detail today. I think I will change the sliders in the vents, as I've heard they are actually very nice with the exception the Ford engineering number is not on the back.

Thanks for the info everyone and any idea what the 1/4 F designation means on my inner wheelhouse?

Need to confirm the correct color for the interior fiberglass panels, vent panels and trim for a 68 GT 500KR with black deluxe interior. Not sure if it is to be black or the charcoal black metallic, like the metal dash. Is there a color # for the correct finish that anyone can share? All the panels are out and I'm prepping for paint.

In addition, I have orange grease pencil markings on my inner wheelhouse with a 1/4 F designation. Is that a common notation and what does it mean?

Thank you.

They did use one with a BBF 427 for all the sounds. The car was run for a couple of days at Nelson Ledges in Ohio so the movie company could get all the sounds.

Appeals / 68 reproduction interior upper quarter panel
« on: August 13, 2022, 11:58:13 AM »
Was wondering if anyone has any first-hand knowledge of the 68 reproduction interior quarter panels that NPD sells as well as the trap door panels. Since I started removing and replacing the windshield and polishing the rear glass, I figured it is a good time to restore or replace some of the interior parts that look a little worn. My quarter vent panels are pitted and was wondering if it would be best to just replace them or replace the whole panels? It appears that to remove the original vents, it would require grinding off the studs that appear to ne peened over? Any insight would be appreciated. In addition, my trap door pannel has eight holes drilled for previous speaker installation. How are the reproduction trap door panels available?

Thanks for any help and insight as the comments are always appreciated.

Wanted to Buy / Re: 68 Rear glass spacers
« on: August 08, 2022, 03:05:50 PM »
Update on the glass spacers is that both of my L.H. side spacers were installed so I only need two. The bottom spacer was located correctly per the assembly manual but the side block spacer on the L.H. side was installed about 12" up from the bottom. I guess the R.H. glass installer was on break!

Wanted to Buy / 68 Rear glass spacers
« on: August 08, 2022, 11:04:42 AM »
Need three (3) C7ZB-63420A22 rear glass spacers. (Part number 5 on the illustrations) My car only had one installed on the lower L.H. side as a dead load spacer. See assembly manual illustration and photo of the one I have. Wanting three originals in lieu of using a generic dead load spacer or side block spacers.

Thank you.

1968 Shelby GT350/500/500KR / Re: 68 date coded Carlite windshields

Well, mine did not want to cooperate, so I ended up having to cut the lower windshield gasket to access the clips and sealant. I cut the gasket about 1" up both sides and along the bottom edge with a Linoleum knife. I pulled the exterior portion of the lower windshield gasket out from under the trim and know the clips were easily seen and accessible with the trim tool. Even with the access, the clips were holding tight, but was finally able to get a couple to release and the trim was able to be slid out. Probably because the windshield was original and the gasket and sealant was hardened, the removal was more difficult. I have all new NOS moldings and clips that I had bought 40+ years ago and will have them polished to match the rear moldings that are being straightened and polished. Once the windshield and rear glass is removed, will clean up the hidden areas and shoot the hidden areas and touchup the chips.

ECS current lead time is running 4-8 weeks for the windshield and the Carlite script and date coding. Price for the tinted banded windshield and correct script and date code was $400. The freight and crate is the killer at $180.

Ordered a date coded windshield with Carlite white script from ECS and was needed some help / suggestions. I was easily able to remove the upper and side windshield trim, but the lower trim is fighting me. Any suggestions? Do I need to cut the windshield gasket to get access to the clips? So far unable to see or feel the clips with the trim tool.

I used a vent from the 9" rear end axle housing and drilled it out as large as possible. I suggest splitting your vent hose and using an inline rollover valve spliced into the vent hose. This setup has worked for me.

I would guess Pilkington Glass if coming from England with correct Carlite script for a 68 on the ECS windshields. I'm going to call them tomorrow and discuss.

Is the tinted glass and shade band on the glass you just installed something you would recommend? Good fit and no distortion?

Thank you for your input.

Charles,

Yes, that is a pretty good description of the color on the original shade band. Is the blue tint shade band the best / only option for a new tinted windshield?
