1966 Shelby GT350/GT350H / Detailing Questions?
January 19, 2021, 09:54:31 PM
These questions regard a March 1966 Shelby Hertz.

At delivery to the first Hertz rental location would a car have had the paper tags for radiator, battery (other than the white sticker near the battery), and the paper instruction and warning tags in the passenger compartment?

Would a Hertz car have had the instruction sheet for maintaining and cleaning the plexiglass side windows in the glovebox?

Did the Hertz cars have 1966 Mustang Owner' Manuals with the red stamped "Void For G.T. 350"? If so, which pages were stamped?

Was the 1966 Mustang Owner's Manual filled out with Hertz as the purchaser?

Thank you!

Sorry about the rotated pictures.

Here are pictures of the angle bracket and the cowl for a March built Shelby.

What is size of the bolt and nut and head style that Ford used to mount the export brace to the cowl? What was the finish? Was a washer used behind the nut?

Thanks.

Thanks for these The part that is crude is the L shaped bracket. It could have been made much better. It is a pretty crude piece. When I get back out to the shop I will get pictures.

Thanks. I never would have guessed it was done at San Jose because it is such a hack job typical of Shelby, not what I would think would be typical at Ford.

These questions concern the export mounting bracket at the cowl for March built 66 Shelbys.

My L angle mounting bracket was skip welded to the cowl. Was this the way it was done?
I suppose it was done that way to not warp the cowl.

It was obvious the worker beat the heck out of the cowl before mounting it. I am surprised he didn't damage the cowl. After it was welded it was heavily coated on all four sides and over the face of it with what looks like a brown seam sealer. Then it was painted over.

How was this bracket painted? Spray can, brush or out of a gun?

Thanks.

Yes, the Autolite carb is original to the car. It has a February or March 66 date. I am not near the car today to see the date on the tag.

So I have a 66 Shelby Hertz with automatic built March of 66. It has its original Autolite carb. It does not have the dashpot. Is it supposed to?

Very sad to hear this news. I had many conversations with Jim over the years. He always remembered me even if a few years went by. I will always remember his honesty. He spent more time talking me out of buying parts than selling parts to me.

I still have many of his hand written invoices from the 90's.

This world needs more people like Jim.
