1965 GT350/R-Model / Met these lovely owners and cars today
« on: August 20, 2022, 06:37:44 PM »
Was at the AACA Museum today in Hershey Pa

A lovely gent pulled in with a 65 GT350. He took the time to chat to me about the car and it’s amazing history. Being stolen years ago and returned to him in 2010

Also spoke to another gent with a 67 GT350 with an equally neat story about the cars restoration

I am sorry I don’t have names but gents like this making Shelbys even more interesting are what it’s all about. Thank you gents

The replacement grills are plastic which is a giant bummer. They have little
Screws with spacers to affix them in the original panels. From a visual standpoint they look much better than heavily pitted originals

Not many folks have the funds in hand to outright buy a done car. And we all know VERY few done cars are done. But what a fair few folks can do is pay 50% of the cost of a done car and add money over time

I sell projects, driver quality and nice local show stuff and the projects get a lot of interest. They want the “done” car but can afford the project car

And yes. Many never get finished and some get offered back to me

I had a 67 Convertible years ago. I had Powered by Ford in Orlando put on the same blower. I took it for the first drive and though this thing is down on power! He explained to me how there is a cross over point before which the blower uses more power than it produces. That was an expensive lesson for a young lad. I like low down grunt rather than high RPM power for the street. They look neat but not my cup of tea now

Wanted to Buy / Re: Shelby Gt500 1967

Many Amazing cars here in Europe. I have sold a fair few and a friend who sells rare stuff has sold many more than me. You go to shows and see stuff that would raise eyebrow in the USA. Lovely folks who support the hobby to the fullest

About three years ago I found a guy at a show selling cut up commercial drum sander belts for sand paper. The backing is heavy material like a cloth

The stuff never wears out. I have pieces well over a year old that I use
It’s like a canvas backing. I will never use paper sandpaper again

Appeals / Re: T10 rebuild kits?
« on: January 21, 2022, 04:41:39 PM »
I would chat with Randy. He advised me when I was having fits with a rebuilt T-10 popping out of gear

Then another one popping out of gear

He suggested Hooked sliders which solved the
Issue

Awesome
Story.

I always chat with folks at car shows when showing my cars. I have sold my Shelby now but always asked people if they wanted to sit in it. Most often they did.

My 68 “Bullitt” below at the NEC in Birmingham England. This little guy was beyond excited to sit in the car

You have to encourage the youth as they are the future of the hobby

Just a thought or two

Is it worth the investment to purchase ten Marti reports. One for each possible iteration of the VIN. Would the visible clues on the shell possibly assist with matching the shell to a report. I.E. colour or date codes on sheetmetal?

Also, and I don’t know how you would go about it, can you get the metal scanned in some way? I am thinking I have seen people discover hidden stampings (due to damage) with some sort of scan

A number of years back I was
At Orlando Mustang and he had an amazing survivor 65 Shelby in the
Shop that he had picked up for a well known Shelby dealer. I was in love

Peter called him and handed me the phone. He said it’s for sale $26500. I laughed and thought a non Shelby fastback is so much less and said thank you

DOH!

Also had a GT500KR. Paid $25,500 circa 2002
For it

Go insanely frustrated at one point with the car and sold it…….

Another DOH!

Recently sold my 66GT350. Hopefully that wasn’t a big error

CAS are garbage beyond measure. And they
Have been for decades. It’s criminal they are allowed to sell them at all

I have many of these cars pass through my hands so experience a lot of these radios

The one that seems to work the best is the retro sound unit. BUT!  They are archaic in use. Someone said to me recently “I have to relearn to use it every time” and that’s a spot on description. It’s a very archaic design

Their Vans rust beyond belief
I see them all the time with rust pouring out of the seams

What a poor way to advertise your quality.

As stated above. They haven’t been too shelf in many years

Read up on the dissolving wiring harnesses they had a while back
