While I thought it would be neat to share this photo, I'm hoping somebody might have more details or other pictures from the 1965 Monza Exhibition. It is believed to have been in September 1965, but I'm wondering what specific date. This photo was clearly taken outside and there is a sign in front of the Ford GT.

Behind the Ford GT is a Daytona Coupe, very likely csx2299 - from the hood and cowl scoops appearance, which was shown at the Brussels Motor Show around January 12th, 1966.

I'm still trying to ID ALL the '67 Shelby's at the convention.

GT40 - Original/Mk V / Please help to ID this MKI GT40
August 06, 2021, 05:57:02 PM
It appears to be in a dealer showroom in late 1969 - early 1970 with the '70 Boss 329 behind it..

It does not appear to be a road coupe / street model as there are no door locks or mirrors.
Maybe the large Ford logos or white center stripe will help narrow it down.

With the creation of the 'Shelby Automotive' company and Ford's takeover of production, FORD MFG plates appear on Shelby's in late 1967.

Here's a list of the vehicles found in period photos. (I do not know all the Shelby VIN numbers at this time.)
-'14M -024' - PR photo; front view of a '68 GT500KR #2356 blue/saddle
-'14M -241' - PR photo; back view of a '68 GT500KR #2356 blue/saddle (same car?)
-'14M -241' - PR photo; back view of a '68 GT500 convertible red/saddle (same rear plate as above Acapulco GT500KR

other (non Ford) MFG plates on Shelby's in Michigan

Attached is a list of all the known Shelby American cars spotted with the MFG plates.
It would be really neat if we could ID all of them too.

I only ask because this GT350 showed up in a recent search on several websites. One site was in English, but they don't say what the Shelby number is. It appears it was offered for sale back in late September 2020. I doubt it is still for sale, but you never know.

18,249 original miles
Full concours-level restoration by marque specialist
Correct K-code engine and aluminum T-10 transmission
110th car built
Documented in the Shelby Registry

Unsuccessful in their attempt to have the new Ford Mustang accepted by the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA), Ford turned to Carroll Shelby for guidance. Shelby met with SCCA Executive Director, John Bishop, to discuss the details of qualification as a sports car by the SCCA's definition, and so the Shelby GT350 was born. Shelby was required to build a minimum of 100 units to meet the SCCA requirements, however went on to build an additional 462 examples for a total of 562 combined dedicated racing and street versions.

All cars for production were ordered from Ford's San Jose assembly plant in the same configuration; White exterior, Black interior, K-code 271hp 289 V8 power plants, T-10 aluminum 4-speed transmissions, and 9 inch rear ends with 3.89:1 ratio gears. The cars were also ordered without rear seats, radio, exhaust systems, and no grille, emblems or hoods. Known by Ford as "knock down" models due to their semi-completed nature when shipped, Shelby would install his own hand-stamped VIN plate over the Ford stamped VIN number on the drivers side inner fender apron.

Shelby then installed a package tray where the rear seats would have been to qualify the car as a two-seater. All GT350's would have modified race suspension fitted by Shelby as standard equipment. Ford's high-performance K-code 289 V8 was modified with a high rise dual plane aluminum intake manifold and fitted with full length headers, topped by a custom fiberglass hood with a plenum to assist with incoming airflow, all working together to raise horsepower to a respectable 306.

Chassis number SFM5S110 was received at Shelby American on December 21, 1964 and completed on April 26, 1965, shipping the following day to Hi-Performance Motors in Los Angeles, CA. The cars first owner, Greg Palmer, planned to take his new Shelby GT350 drag racing, and had Bill Stroppe install drag race ladder bars. At a later date Palmer also installed a Boss 302 engine, and top-loader transmission. SFM5S110 went on to successfully compete at California drag racing venues, including Lions, Orange County, and Irwindale for many years.

The GT350 was later sold by Palmer, and passed through the hands of two California owners before being purchased by a private collector in Oklahoma. Randy Roberts of Muscle Car Restorations in OK, was duly commissioned to perform a full concours-correct restoration to the highest standards. Roberts's team, who are known for their restoration and preservation work of many rare Mustangs and Shelbys, noted that SFM5S110 had never fallen foul to harsh climate conditions, and retained its perfect original front fender aprons, with both of Ford's stamped VIN's present, and verified by the Shelby American Automobile Club (SAAC).

Muscle Car Restorations completed a ground up nut-and-bolt restoration, including sourcing an original replacement date-code-correct K-code 289 engine, and aluminum T-10 4-speed transmission. All sheet metal was restored using genuine Ford panels where needed, to correct prior drag racing modifications to the floor and rear body panels. Everything was finished to National Concours judging standards, leaving no small detail to chance. Beautiful Ray Brown seat belts hold driver and passenger in place, and a correct early slotted 15" steering wheel has been refinished, providing for an enticing experience within. On each corner sit Shelby's Cragar 15" wheels fitted with Goodyear Blue Dot 7.75x15 tires, with a fifth fitted in the rear package tray. Presented in like-new showroom condition, this GT350 is ready for any show field.

Upon arriving at Canepa, the cars spectacular restored surfaces were treated to a full Canepa concours-show-level Detail. The GT350's engine was tuned to perfection by our master mechanics, and the entire drivetrain checked for balance and alignment. Ready for any show lawn, or driven event, this iconic Shelby GT350 is now ready to write a new chapter in the hands of its next caretaker.

Last year Ford finally released images of the 'final eight' '64 ½ Mustang design concepts. (Thanks to the new Archivist - Ted Ryan?) These were taken at the 'Special Falcon' internal design competition on August 16th 1962. Each design had eight photo views shown at every angle. Attached is one of those designs, now with all eight views just released. It's a nice looking attempt, but I can't see a Shelby coming out of there. Even if we imagine this one as a fastback, it's a no go for me, as a Shelby. I'm sure glad Lee Iacocca and the other Ford executives went with the Joe Oros teams' Gale Halderman design.

The point I'm trying to get at is;
I posted this 1971 Shelby Concept, right side design (S-3191-24), found in 'Consumers Guide' many years ago, (followed by the left side a year or two later (S-13191-19). This design has six other angle views we haven't seen. (Please take a look in your libraries for any 'Consumers Guide' magazine or book, as you never know what's hiding in the each publisment.)

Since these two photos are date coded as -19 and -24, there could be two other design concepts we don't see  (photos -1 thru -8 and photos - 9 thru -16. Photos -17 thru -24 are the design we see in these two photos). As usual I have questions, Here's a couple of them;
How does the back end look?
     What were the other alternatives?

The photo views of this first design concept are identified below (in blue ink, are the missing images and angles by date code)
1971 Shelby Concept 10-14-68
        S-13191-17 front              (need photo)
S-13191-18 left front ¾     (need photo)
        S-13191-19 left side
S-13191-20 left rear ¾     (need photo)
        S-13191-21 back              (need photo)
S-13191-22 right rear ¾   (need photo)
        S-13191-23 right side       (need photo)
        S-13191-24 right front ¾

Wouldn't it be awesome if someone could get in those Ford Archives or convince them to pull out any Shelby related design images? Anyone know somebody who can help?

Found some older write-ups from forum 1.0. Might as well repost them instead of getting lost forever.

"SHELBY" lettered parts - SAAC MKI:

These were only included on the first 13 built cars. Afterwards, they switched to all the "SAAC" lettered parts for production. Both versions were available through the SAAC Parts Company

#SAAC-9E434-MKI ="SHELBY" lettered GT40 Intake Manifold Top Plate

(The Mustang Intake Manifold Top Plate was never used on a SAAC MKI or MKII)

CSX 3000 Series / Shelby Cobra GHIA SPYDER
April 18, 2021, 11:45:39 AM
I forgot all about this one-off Cobra, built by Ghia on a csx3000 chassis (csx3063)
It was noted to have been displayed in 1965 at the Turin, Italy motor show, only to vanish afterwards.

https://porterpress.co.uk/blogs/news/ghia-shelby-cobra-gt

The front 3/4 view sort of reminds me of a Japanese roadster of the era.

It appears there were two cars on display at Earl's Court along with a rolling chassis. Since this was in the UK they might be COB Cobra's with the 60xx chassis numbers. The license plate does show us the name "AC Cobra"

This first photo is readily found on the internet, but a second from the opposite side was discovered from an unknown source.
If I could find that source we might be able to enlarge that photo.
The event coverage was also printed in the "Autocar" October 16th, 1963 issue.

Anyone else have any more information to add?

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / Little Red - Documentary
April 04, 2021, 11:39:32 AM
The Little Red documentary didn't really answer a lot of the nitty gritty questions I had.
Some of the most notable details though discussion or video for me were;
-It was never painted in a Ferrari red, just the factory Ford Candyapple Red
-The door panels show us an August '66 Ford build date
-The first owner tells us he bought it with a single 4bbl, no A/C, no compressor, and no Paxton on it.

Questions about Little Red after watching the documentary. These are probably still unknown.

1) When did the black top get spray painted on?
We know the black roof top was spray painted on and it never had a vinyl top.
-Was it added when first completed as a Shelby in December 1966?
-Or was the black top sprayed painted on when it was first updated to the 67.5 Shelby design proposal?
-Or was it added later when SAI created their version of the '68 design prior to the LLTC July 7th, 1967?

2) When did the wheels change to 10-spokes?
It would have been ordered and shipped to LAX with Magstars in December 1966, just like all the other early '67's.
The large letter Goodyear tires shown at the LLTC in July suggests a wheel swap

3) When was the '67 louvered hood added, as Craig Jackson mentioned?
This suggests it had a standard Shelby hood when first completed December 1966. No louvered hoods were known to exist at that time. The B&W photo, taken at LAX, shows it with a darker louvered hood. It is darker than the rest of the body including the Shelby fiberglass nose. This suggests to me, it was changed prior to July 1967 where it appeared to be a closer color match to the body paint.

4) When did the outboard grille and grille lights get added to the car?
The Production Order notes it was completed in December 1966.
We don't see the arrival of the outboard grille and lights in production until May 1967.

5) Which came first, the single or the double Paxton Supercharger? (I assume single) When were each of the versions added / removed?
One photo found, shows a single Paxton installed, quite possibly taken in July '67 at the LLTC.
It has been suggested the EXP lettering in the side stripes was added after the LLTC. Does that coincide with the dual Paxton's installation? We know the EXP lettering was added during Shelby's lease while at LAX. So, did these two details go hand and hand?

6) Where did the nickname 'Big Red' come from and when did that start getting used?
The Cobra Crier, Vol 1, issue 3, June 1967, notes 'Big Red' on display along with a supercharged GT350 at the Custom Car Show at the Sports Arena (When?).
Rumor has it this was Goodell's nickname and not necessarily accepted by SAI employees who preferred 'Little Red'. Is this true or just hearsay?

Maybe Switzerland or France?

Here are some more vintage photo links (non racing history) from the REVS Digital Library. This likely coincides with the Cobra Caravan tour which made a stop on 12/2/65

Here's some links to several fantastic vintage pictures found over on the REVs Digital Library website. These photos were taken at the midtown Manhattan stop in the former "Union Carbide Building"
We see the Cobra Caravan Trailer pictured from both the front and back.

Inside the building lobby (on the ground level floor) is Carroll Shelby with a few others. The '66 GT350 with a sign board confirms the location.
Note the damage to the front valance. The MFG plate '2S 013' helped Steve Sloan and Howard Pardee to suggest this is 6s120

Also parted outside the lobby are two GT350s the R model 5r213 and likely the street model 6s249

I don't recall seeing this van 'recreation' in the movie, but the article suggests it was...

The 2014 registry notes; 6 limited production painted units were built. I looked for more info in the grid codes and the 1968 introduction pages, but came up empty.
Does anyone know what body style and interior trim they had?

I can only guess the following;

(Three) 3 painted in Royal Maroon;
-1 GT500KR convertible with 6F saddle interior trim found noted only convertible in this color
-2 Fastbacks, unknown interior 5A, 6A, or 6F

(Two) 2 painted in Brittany Blue
-Guessing both were fastbacks, unknown interior 5A, 6A, or 6F

(One) 1 Springtime Yellow
- Guessing a fastback, unknown interior 5A, 6A, or 6F
-A GT500KR fastback appeared at the 2016 Scottsdale/ Barrett-Jackson auction, but
the registry suggests it was a special paint bright yellow WT6066, not the limited production Springtime Yellow paint.
