Just finished reading the article on Rick. Great piece! Rick helped me with some of my early magazine work, more offering advice on how to write and put ideas together. I still use it to this day. Over the years we had many conversations about the club, the cars, he was spot on back then about where we are now. He is truly one with great cognizance on the club and his place. And he more than once had the need to pull me back in place when needed.

One part of the interview I liked the best was his accurate description of Ol' Shel'. Spot on. I've been around the club (SAAC), Replica Cobras, Modern Team Shelby, and other affairs to see how Shelby really acted. Hence, I never hero worshipped him, kept a distance, and only have one or two handshakes and one picture of the both of us. No glove box signatures! (I am a rare one). One aspect that I see of so many modern Shelby owners, and partially with Team Shelby, is how Carroll is hero worshipped. When I speak my opinion (and not usually what is wanted to be heard), I am usually scorned. But I take that scorn, I have the age and mileage to know true history and been there for it.

I have always admired Rick's and the registry's value for the history of the cars, and that is the one big plus of SAAC.

Great read.

The Board Room / Re: SAAC Regions and insurance
November 16, 2021, 12:22:55 PM
The Board needs to respond here.

I finally went to Hagerty direct and got my own club policy, $1/$5 million. Not cheap, but the consequences......

To any regional group that has gone forwards and set yourself up as a non-profit group:

How did you do it? What style of organization did you use? Annual costs? Protection?

Many, many groups and clubs are in desperate need of this info. I invite SAAC Board to provide proper guidance. Most of the regional groups are flying unprotected, and it is getting very scary in the modern world. We need help and guidance.

My own regional group buys it's own insurance for the club from Hagerty, but we need to get banking and liability set. I have been running the club for 25 years, will be stepping down at the end of 2022. I MUST have the club set up as an organization able to stand on it's own.

HELP!!!!!

Too get back to the Cougars, which Michigan convention were both on display? Didn't CobraJeff organize that?

Definitely in the switch harness/wiring, though taillights do not pass through the switch.

How are the grounds in the trunk? I bet they could be an issue. Clean, metal to metal contact only, no paint

Heard from the family that a memorial service will be planned for June 2022 in Delaware. Currently they are keeping things quiet, just the family.

Will keep all posted.

New Jersey Region SAAC / Checkered Flag - Roy Miller
October 17, 2021, 06:36:13 PM
The older members may remember Roy. Lived in Phillipsburg for many years, has a Pastel Grey 1969 GT-350 4-Sp. We all knew him as "Dr. Panic". Truly a wonderful guy, active in SAAC starting back in the 1980's. I met Roy when I first moved out to that area, he was an amazing help, he and his wife Fran were so helpful, Godparents to my son.

Roy retired, moved to Delaware with the car, and was currently in Florida with his daughter's family. Many health issues later in life, finally put out the flame of a fierce fighter, friend to all. He's such an old friend, I don't have any digital images of him or the car.

Rest in peace my old friend, you and Walt are together again, fixing cars and drinking coffee.
