Is there a proper color to use on the '65 GT350 fenders? Is black, grey or a mixture all correct?

Charles, Thx for the 3M strip caulking tip. I bought this stuff upon the recommendation of a counter guy at a local auto paint store - but that's probably the only option they had. So far, I've only used it during the install of my fuel tank. It seemed to work OK, but obviously I had nothing to compare it to. Searching for "rope caulk" as suggested has given me lots of new options. Is there anything in particular to look for or just stay away from butyl? Can you describe how this stuff is better than the 3M product? I noticed that the 3M sticks to everything - including my fingers - and is difficult to clean off.

Perhaps I'm missing something. A transmission would still provide increased mechanical advantage providing more torque at the wheels in the lower gears regardless of the technology providing the force. If a gas motor could provide a flat torque curve across its RPM range, it would provide power like the electric motor. I think most would agree a transmission would make sense for the gas engine - why not the electric motor?

I have to admit this Mustang concept intrigued me. I wouldn't consider choosing a Tesla for myself as a performance toy even though it's incredibly fast, because I love playing with manual transmissions.

Recently, parts were becoming difficult to get for my '97 Corvette, so I started looking for a replacement. When I first heard about the GT500, I thought I'd found my next car until I heard there was no manual available. At that point, I opted for the GT350 in large part due to the transmission. The awesome sound from the VooDoo engine is a great bonus!

I've heard of that guy that owns the actual ax that George Washington used to chop down the cherry tree. Of course, the ax head has been replaced twice and the handle three times. But it's still original!

It wasn't the General Lee, but I had a '69 Charger. One day back in the summer of 1977, I was racing a buddy on the Interstate between two close, small towns in Wyoming when I spotted a Highway Patrolman pop the rise in the oncoming lane. His cruiser nose-dived when he nailed his brakes. He was heading downhill toward a ravine and apparently realized he wouldn't get stopped in time to turn around, so he gunned it to get across the bridge before coming after us.

My buddy backed out, but for some stupid reason, I just kept my foot in it. My friend said the Patrolman came after us and passed my friend at what he said was probably 90 MPH (in 1977, the 55 MPH limit was everywhere). I was well in excess of 100 and never saw the guy behind me.

In a few minutes, I was home and safe for the time being, but these Wyoming towns are small and we all know each other. I was kicking myself for being so stupid, and figured it was only a matter of time before I got a knock on door. I worried for weeks that they would figure out who I was, especially since I was driving the Charger with boy-racer stripes - not too many of those around.




The anxiety that month was far worse than any fine or jail time I might have faced. Never again.

To put a number on the amount of trans-tunnel-clearance trim required, here's one example: I am putting a Modern Driveline T5z (MD P/N MD-552-0251) with their "Quik Stik Shifter" (MD P/N MD-88-421-204-03) into my '65 Fastback. Even with the shifter relocator, I still had 0.3" of interference with the front of the tunnel opening. I trimmed a 0.4" clearance off the front.  Note that in the distant past, the frame on my car was reported to have experienced a significant collision with a large, hard object. Subsequently, the frame has been extensively massaged and now measures as correct-to-spec. In addition, all my large aftermarket goodies (rack & pinion, headers, etc.) now (finally) fit as intended. Just one data point. Jim

Shelbydoug, I wish you had been the one to coach me on my 289 back in the 80's when I got my '65. Hot & running adjustment is the way I was taught. It works, but in addition to burned fingers, that technique can make a mess. Thank goodness for the internet and this forum.

I'm running hydraulic now.

Looks great Corey!

You might want to make one change: I rechecked my dimensions and confirmed they were correct. After scratching my ... head, I realized the problem is that my drawing incorrectly shows this part of the bracket as being thinner than it actually is. This is apparent when the drawing and photos are compared. There is a lot more metal in this "throat" area than my drawing shows. Changing this in you CAD design would make the bracket stronger.

When I made the drawing, I was also enjoying a Crown and Coke. More evidence that one should never drink and derive a drawing.
