6S611, i think that's the chassis number of the '66 Shelby GT350H in a 2015 article by Matt Stone in Motor Trend about James Garner driving it round in Europe during the filming of a racing movie Grand Prix. I don't think it got in the movie but Bondurant wanted each of the drivers who would be "racing" on camera to learn race driving driving that car.

I have made over 100 paintings but only 10 to 12 have graduated from being 11" x 17" heavy stock paper to stretched canvas, in what are called giclees (GHEE CLAYS) Among them my 20" x 30" Ferrari giclees sold at Mecum Monterey 2022 and Mecum Chicago 2022. Another is in the Mullin Museum. if you have a good picture you'd like made into a painting to put over your mantel,  fly it by me and I'll let you know if the lighting in the shot  works. Or it could even be a scene from Shelby history (better in color, who knows what color the race cars in the background were if the reference shot is  black and white? (example here: Rem Charlie & Bob testing small block in Yurrip but I knew the color of the car) Style? Photorealistic on the cars but impressionistic in backgrounds. Send your nominee for your painting via e-mail to malibucarart@gmail.com, Continental US only--cost me $300 to send a 20" x 30" to Hong Kong but only $75 in continental US!

Cosmetics not important OK if it has dents on doors but you have to plug it in to show it works. The artwork is a 20" x 30" giclee print, freshly embellished with oils,  of my Shelby as race driver portrait. To gauge value go to Road art results Mecum Monterey 2022 or Mecum monterey 2022. I had three paintings sold, lowest priced one was $900.This one I'll take a guess at valued of $790. Leave message at malibucarart at google's address or text 213, then 344 then  6496
thanx Shelby fans, guys

Same size, same artist, as the  20" x 30"  engine portrait of Ferrari GTO engine sold at Mecum Monterey 2022 for $1700. But this one is offered by the artist directly to a cash offer, payable by cashier's check of $500  plus $75 shipping in Continental US via Fedex ground. Or if you live within 100 miles of Los Angeles or IE  , artist will hand deliver. The next engine portrait will be Iso Grifo A3/C 327 side drought Webers and maybe a Porsche 356 Carrera engine

I ran across it on the net. haven't read it yet but thought I saw a mistake  on the one page i read--the student referred to Bristol. I'm going to bet he meant Bristol who made a car called the Beaufighter, but they never had anything to do with Shelby. The firm Shelby worked with was A.C. Cars Ltd. who made a car called the A.C. -Bristol. According to Mark McCourt in Hemmings "It wasn't long before the Bristol Aeroplane Company's 2.0-liter (120.3-cu.in.) straight-six found its way into the Ace's roomy engine bay. This advanced, hemi-head engine had German roots, having originated as a prewar BMW design. In stock triple-Solex-carbureted form, it made between 105 and 128 hp, but was capable of up to 150 hp in race tune. The AC Ace-Bristol was an instant hit, competitive in both standard and endurance racing. Indeed, examples ran successfully at Le Mans in 1957 and 1958, and on this side of the pond, dominated contemporary SCCA events.

The Ace-Bristol would be sold until its engine stock ran out, Bristol having stopped producing the straight-six in 1961."
When i get a copy of this thesis I'll see if I can find anything else or if it goes into new territory not touched upon in the regular car books.

I admit i never collected neon but am pleased to see there is some exciting new products coming along like this one which I see is coming up Oct. 13th at Mecum Chicago under "road art" at no reserve. That means the highest bid takes. I
can't estimate value but on the net , I saw one advertised for $1919 so I guess that's what they go for retail. The ad with that price was from thecarguygarage.

I painted this a long time ago with the small mouth it had when being tested in England. Then when they got it to Calif. they saw it needed a bigger grille mouth
So I could change it to be a stock looking 427 or I could leave it historically accurate? Once I get enough opinions I''ll try it at Mecum las Vegas on a 20" x 30" canvas. Opinions?

I just caught this on the radio, written by Preston Lerner,  a very thorough reporter. Don't know the title but this is probably a very new book. I hope he interviewed some of the behind the scenes guys like Charlie Agapiou

If you saw Ford v. Ferrari that Ferrari coupe that blew off the Ford GTs at Daytona (but lost to the Fords at LeMans) is the subject of this print from an original painting by Wallace Wyss. The work will be auctioned off as Road Asrt at No Reserve on Thursday Oct. 13th. You can even (after paying a fee) bid by phone or internet but might be trumped at the live auction. Some giclee prints are offered just as they come out of the printer but this one's been embellished by the original artist. Needs no frame. The same artist sold another Ferrari prototype print at Mecum Monterey for something like $1400. I know Mecum is a company you identify with musclecars but hey, they are adapting to the marketplace--some collectors have a whole Ford v. Ferrari theme to their den....

Another Detroiter moved to California, his name is John Krsteski and he is a Hyundai designer. Like Ford designer Camilo Pardo, he went to the Center for Creative Studies in Detroit. But in his spare time in California he makes fine art automotive paintings of classics, some with oils and some digital (Hey John, are those still called "paintings?") Camilo can relax --he's only done  a couple GT40s, he has dozens of marques depicted. And he seems to prefer Porsches in his personal cars. One thing I find fascinating is his extra long (but short vertically) paintings, I wonder how many frame shops can do that?. I don't have an address for where to buy his work  but he could be written to at Art Center College of Design where he teaches part time.

Up For Auction / Robb Walton's GT40 Gulf car canvas print
September 25, 2022, 09:26:35 AM
I believe it is the one that won LeMans, not once but twice (SN 1075). For a long time it was on display in the Gulf Oil U.S. HQ lobby until an Arizona dealer bought it and resold it.I saw and photographed it at a historic race at Laguna Seca so the painting is based on it in modern times.I don't know how well he's done on the track with it but I saw him hit the wall in a Cobra Daytona. I can make a canvas giclee 20" x 30, price on application.

The Ferrari P3/4 was the most brutal yet sensuous of Ferrari's mid-engine V12 prototypes in the Sixties. There are only three of this race car in the world, each worth tens of millions.Rarer than n Ferrari Ralph Lauren owns. . There is only one canvas print of this, size 20" x 30" from the original painting by Wallace Wyss, the very same fine artist who sold another Ferrari prototype canvas giclee print at Mecum Monterey 2022 August 21 for $1700. .Cash only This is a limited offer.... Considering consignment to Mecum Chicago.

Still looking for it. Latest version of this car's story i that deTomaso got  427 Cobra chassis and had Ghia (which he didn't own yet)  do a body. It is certainly more modern than the 427 Cobra body,  which descended from the AC Ace of '53. I'd say Giugiaro designed it, It has his side vents. But it's not on all the lists pf his designs, It had a lift off hardtop. Probably when Ford rejected it , the body was taken off, the stock body put on and the car sold. Someday i will go to Italy and see where the leftover stiff at Ghia went when Ford dumped them
#56
Originally as S4 this Giugiaro deigned Iso had  Chevy 327 but maybe because Erich Bitter poisoned relations between Iso and Chevy they switched to Ford 351s it their cars. This one used the Fidia name GM Engineering had s bunch of furrin' cars for use by Bill Mitchell, Zora Duntov, John DeLorean. I've heard it was rough, i heard it was pristine but it sold for over $16,000,

Shelby's name rumbled 'round Daytona as film races toward possible Oscar wins
Dan Scanlandscanlan@jacksonville.com

(The net version has color https://www.jacksonville.com/story/news/2020/02/07/shelbys-name-rumbled-round-daytona-as-film-races-toward-possible-oscar-wins/112227860/)

Florida Times-Union
Until now, if someone mentioned Carroll Shelby, only car geeks would know the wily Texas race car driver was behind the epic top-3 finish by Ford GT40s at the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans, some racy early Mustangs and a lot more.

Now Sunday's 92nd annual Academy Awards could mean many more know his name as 2019's "Ford v Ferrari," based on Ford's attempt to win Le Mans to spite Ferrari, stands nominated for four Oscars: Best Picture, Best Sound Mixing, Best Film Editing and Best Sound Editing.

As modern race cars screamed around outside the Daytona International Speedway media center a few weeks ago at the Rolex 24, we sat down with Jeff Bucknum, who played his father, Ronnie Bucknum, in the film. His father was in the third GT40 to cross the Le Mans finish line in 1966. So when the son got to drive an exact replica of his father's gold No. 5 GT40 on film, that "was the moment."

"We did a lot of driving, and that just felt like my racing. It didn't feel like I was part of my dad's history," he said. "When we did the finishing scene, having that moment when you pull up and stop and get out with the fans, done the same way they did it at Le Mans, that was pretty emotional to know that your car had that history. I kept looking back at the original picture as we were filming to see how they came a cross the line."

We also spoke to Robert Nagle, a veteran stunt coordinator who guided actors and stunt drivers through the film's racing action, calling the Le Mans action like a "gritty kind-of a street fight."

"I think I pinched myself a few times to see if I was dreaming," he said. "It had been around for a while and I was really glad that it came back around. I'd been hearing about it off and on. ... It was as arduous as it was fun. It was quite a monster to deal with, but it was fun and exciting to do."

"Ford v Ferrari" stars Matt Damon as Shelby, and Christian Bale as British-born driver Ken Miles, as they join forces to develop the GT40 into the Ferrari killer at the legendary 1966 Le Mans race. The film hit digital services on Jan. 28, and comes out on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD on Feb. 11.

After Enzo Ferrari rebuffed the Dearborn auto giant's bid to buy it, Ford fought back by entering eight GT40s in the 1966 Le Mans race, becoming the first American automaker to sweep the famous endurance race. Ford's documentary of that feat is "This Time Tomorrow," viewable at bit.ly/2u0PbXA.

Producers wanted to make "Ford v Ferrari" as realistic as possible, so two accurate continuation models built by South Africa's Superformance, licensed by Shelby to build Ford GT40 and Cobras, were used for close-ups inside and out. Many of the Ferraris used in the scene at its factory were real, and their total worth "exceeded our film budget," Nagle said. Replica Ferrari 330 P3s, Porsche 906s and others filled in the Le Mans racing action.

"The Superformance felt somewhere between a complete, full-blown race car and an older vintage car because the technology just wasn't that great back then," he said. "The Superformance cars were quite amazing. The other cars were good, but not nearly as good as Superformance.

"The Superformance was fantastic. The other ones were awful," Nagle added.

Bucknum has competed at the Rolex 24, Le Mans, and in IndyCar, and won the 12 Hours of Sebring. And while his father's GT40 was third in line in the real race, Bucknum said he had some fun filming that scene.

"I told all the stunt guys, I'm going to gas it and I'm going to take first in the first cut" Bucknum said. "So when they said, 'action,' and we got close to the line, I gassed it and I won. The director said, 'cut, cut, you are supposed to be third."

Along with the epic GT40s, there were other cars that have Shelby's mark on them. And fans flocked to see two of those iconic Shelby GT350 Mustangs run hard at the Rolex Legends high-speed demonstration before Jan. 25th's recent Rolex 24 at Daytona.

Jacksonville driver Darek Stennes' 1965 Shelby GT350 Mustang started as a basic white fastback at Ford's California Assembly Plant, then was modified at the Shelby operation. Stennes has driven it from Watkins Glen and Road Atlanta to Daytona and Sebring, most recently November's HSR Classic 24 at Daytona, as we wrote about at bit.ly/2S3kJ6W. And Shelby signed the dashboard in 1992, then drove it around Road Atlanta.

Stennes worked it hard for a lap or two, even dicing with the other GT350 on the famed super-speedway during the Rolex Legends, as seen in our video at youtu.be/ERWrUb2baOY.

"It has been vintage raced since 1978 on, so it's probably got 400 races on it and it has raced here for over 40 years," he said. "If people see it, it keeps the fire burning, especially with the movie out, so it's good," Stennes said. "A lot of people are noticing his signature there, which is about 30 years old. He drove it. He sat in the car when he signed that."

Parked nose-to-nose with Stennes' GT350 was another Jacksonville-based race car with some serious Ford inside - a 1981 Mercury Capri raced in the IMSA RS series. Brian Walsh's coupe was based on the Mustang of the period, with a 2.3 liter 4-cylinder making 220 horsepower, built by Craig Waldner. It raced between 1982 and 1984, when his late father, Jerry "Racer" Walsh, was racing a purple Ford Pinto his son still campaigns in vintage events.

"That was how it came from the factory. This car ran in the IMSA RS series in the '80s, and was run normally aspirated," he said. "My dad had one that was turbocharged he ran at the same time, 1979 to 1983."

As to the actors who drove the GT40s in the movie, Bucknum called Bale and Damon "fairly humble because they had a expectation for what it took to do the driving." And they made sure he got to drive the replica of his father's car.

"There were two lines that my dad had in the movie. It didn't make the final cut. But Nagle and Tanner Foust made sure I did all the driving in my dad's car," Bucknum said. "Plus I drove at least six other cars in the movie, mainly because my dad's car doesn't really show up until the end, and that's part of the 1-2-3 finish."

Much of the film's race car action was real, with Le Mans' famed Dunlop Bridge recreated at Road Atlanta, and more at America's Grand Prix Track in Savannah. As for how close to reality the film was, Bucknum said some "isn't just like racing." Nagle said "its exactly what we wanted." And Stennes said, "A lot of it's accurate. A lot of it's not really so accurate."

"But once you get past that, it's a good movie. It's a Hollywood take on what happened," he said.

I run into these occasionally...sort of a poor man's ferrari. Price are all over the place, a real clean one goes for 70K/ there was an indian health guru in   calif. a few years back who owned one and then he went bust when sued by a contingent of his female customers for unwarranted touching, Forgot his name but don't know where all his cars (50 or so) went. I think his creditors found only 20 of them.

Talk about an old lead! Last seen in SF valley circa '66.Welded together of two smashed race cars. Alloy bodied but now could no be fiberglass. Flat non wrap around rear window. i think i saw this car at a used car dealer across the street from 8490 Sunset in '70 but was too lazy to walk across the street to look at it. ..First to  locate car in 2022 gets a   print of your favorite Cobra, GT40, etc. choice of ten paintings) Write mendoart7@gmail/com

It's the 100th anniversary of LeMans so Pebble is celebrating too. Their webpage shows a Mk.IV but I'm presuming a Mk. II will be thee as well. Lots of former LeMans  drivers too like Derek Bell. Tickets to see the concours are now something like $500 plus. If I get pictures of the Fords I'll post'em here, I'll bring Ford GT artwork the day before to Concorso italiano but at that event those guys only care about Furraris, a marque that hasn't won LeMans ever since Ford kicked their butt more than 50 years ago. Anybody who wants to arrange to see the artwork can text me at malibucarart@gmail.com

I suspect Jim Farley Ford CEO will be pushing Ford's appearance there as he races a Cobra. Here on You Tube some lady named Jodie interviews him about Ford's contribution to racing.Find under this title
