The Lounge / Re: $4,100 for a Cobra keychain
September 21, 2019, 04:42:00 PM
I'll reinforce what Vern said with a couple of photos. This is the original keychain from CSX2367, and it has the gold patina of age.  I'm the collector that Vern mentioned who cast several copies of this keychain using the silicone mold process with metal tinted resin.   I posted photos of those some years ago.   There is also a photo of some of the Shelby items that I acquired from Vern soon after acquiring the Cobra.  I'll also buy Vern's book!   Dave

The Lounge / Re: tire choice

These tires are popular on series one Jaguar Etypes.  185-15 in that case.   These don't flat spot.  The Goodyears on the Cobra take several miles to smooth out.

Up For Auction / Re: 65 GT350 #69

I was at Mecum Indy.   Listed some results in a Cobra post.
You never know at one of these auctions, but the $450k bid seemed legit, and it went to bid goes on.
The Cobra sales seemed like strong prices.  Dave.

Using my iPad, so missed these photos.
My best friend is selling his 7000 mile BOSS 429.  I'm along to tell him "it's OK".   Dave

Replicas and Tribute / Re: My replica 289 Roadster
November 16, 2018, 09:53:41 AM
CSX2367 was delivered new with whitewall Goodyears with the whitewalls turned inside, on painted wheels.  Like many street 289 Cobras. Within a few weeks of delivery Joe had acquired Dunlop chrome wire wheels and used those most of the time.  I have original documents for that, and of course the Highlander Green "Lincoln" paint.  So I have both sets of wheels/tires and I switch back and forth.  CSX2367 has won two SAAC Premiere awards, once with Joe A and then at Watkins Glen after I had gone thru the cosmetics after acquiring the car.  So of course the painted wheels/inside whitewalls are required for SAAC shows.    Dave

The Lounge / London to Brighton Run Nov 4 2018
November 11, 2018, 04:37:04 PM
OK, I didn't drive the Cobra on this event, but it's certainly in line with all of us car fans.
Rich Foster and I checked off another of our post retirement goals by finishing the London to Brighton Run for pre 1905 vehicles last Sunday.  It celebrates the law change that eliminated the requirement for a flagman to walk in front of your vehicle to warn the horses...  We had acquired a 1903 Darracq.  Single cylinder that runs basically at a fixed RPM, road speed is set by the three speed transmission, about 15 MPH top speed. Took us seven hours to complete the 60 miles.  About 50 degrees, windy and humid, but no rain.   400 cars start, about 80% finish.  There are many support events, we enjoyed the Royal Automobile Club receptions the most.  Lori and Diana followed us on the L to B route on a double decker bus.

The Lounge / Re: Garage Heating Ideas
October 25, 2018, 01:13:36 PM
Most mini-split, slimline units are very easy to install.   Some carpentry work to support the indoor and the outdoor units, an electrical power hookup and the refrigerant hoses are pre charged so just screw or snap on to the connectors.  The temperature control is normally via a handheld remote so no wiring.
I've used these mini-split units in two garages with success.  I would mount the indoor unit above head height since it blows the heated or cooled air fairly intensely.
