I hope that wasn't a scam. I thought eBay owned PayPal. If so, I can't figure why they would want to bypass their own money making company. Better keep an eye on your bank account.

I did the conversion myself almost 2 years ago. I ordered all my parts through Modern Drive Line. I used the original bell housing and had a new driveshaft built per MDL. As others have said: one of the best improvements I've made to the car! And, as also mentioned, the T5 1st gear is short for a stock 3.89 rear ended. Not impossible to live with, and my bigger challenge would be the 5th gear ratio. The throw from 4th to 5th is long (RPM wise). I'd love to shorten up the distance between 4th and 5th, but I believe the newest tranny addresses both 1st and 5th.

I won't ever go back. The original tranny sits safely on the shelf.

I have a friend who did the T5 conversion on his 1966 GT350 a year or two ago. He first installed the new trans, then took measurements and had a driveshaft made to those specs. All per guidance from Modern Driveline.

We were able to donate a little more this time around. And happy to do it.

Thank you for sharing your story and making this personal for me. With so many worthy organizations asking for donations, it sometimes takes a personal link to make me realize how important a particular cause is.

That's an original Shelby tach for a 1966 GT350. And it's the early verion with the Cobra logo on top. Yes, the stainless/chrome cup usually indicates an OTC part. But once you put it inside a black wrinkle cup with a proper mounting bracket, no one will be able to tell if it's OTC or as installed at SA. Very nice tach!

Very good thoughts. Based on that I would rarely use a cover. I hardly ever go more than 3 weeks between drives. And, sadly, the car is rarely that clean. When the weather is nice enough to wash and/or wax, I always end up driving instead. Maybe I need to rethink whether a cover is a good idea for the way I use my car.

Had my car restored by Jim Cowles. Assume he installed correct bulb. Tach unreadable at night. Thought the bulb was bad until I tried it in closed garage at night with garage lights off. Close look at tach revealed dim glow. If you want to be able to read your tach at night I suggest an LED bulb.

I agree. I emailed Jesse to learn what I can about any covers that SPR currently carries. I couldn't find any on their web site. And I'll be touching base with Brant at VCM too. I want the best cover I can get. But, all things being equal, will steer my business toward Shelby and SAAC supporters. The hard part is the "all things being equal" qualification. That's hard to judge without actually ordering and testing every product. Hence, my research here on the forum getting the benefit of other owners' experience.

I think you are both recommending the same flannel cover from California Car Covers.

Would you describe that cover as thin, medium or thick?

Heavy, medium or light weight?

Looking for a cover for my 1966 GT350. Need only protect from dust in my garage. Will probably never be used outside.
- Top priority is to be soft so it won't damage the paint even if dragged on and off several times a week.
- Second priority is to be light, also to minimize any paint damage in dragging on and off.
- Third priority is to be thin, so it will fold up small when not in use.

I've been thinking about the 100% cotton flannel cover by California Car Company. Any comments about that cover or other recommendations appreciated.

I would look for the VIN on the block and send that to the 1965-66 Registrar to find out if it's from a legit Shelby. If so, then try to reunite the engine with its original car. Shelby owners are usually excited to have a chance to purchase the original engine for their car. If the block is not from an original Shelby I'd keep it. A 289hp in a '65 coupe will be so much fun to drive. I know. I used to have a car like that. Yee ha!

Update.

My friend called a locksmith to his house and that person made a key to fit the existing lock on the hatchback of his 1976 Mustang-II. That solved his problem and he was happy that there was no damage to his car and he got to keep the original lock cylinder.

After that, I got a tip that would have saved some money, so I'm posting that here in case someone else his this issue in the future. This is true for 1975 & 76 Mustang-II. I don't know if it's true for the other years.

If the car has a lock on the glove box door, that will be keyed to match the hatch. You can take that door to a locksmith and have him make a key right there in his shop. That key will also fit the hatch. And you've saved the cost of a house call.
