Messages - 69 GT350 Vert

I've been using a AGM reproduction autolite battery for 7 years, and it is still working great.  They aren't cheap at $350, but work great if you keep a trickle charger on them in winter.  Virginia mustang provided mine.

I had the same exact problem happen to me.  I ended up giving the engine to a different shop to fix since I did not have confidence in them any longer.  Turned out my cylinder hone was too smooth,  and the intake was sucking oil at bottom due to inadequate gasket pinch.

I feel the 1st shop would have duplicated the same errors a 2nd time.

I bypassed my Shelby and XR7.  The Pink wire is fed from the tach plug.  It is a two way plug.. one male.. one female.  Just unplug that connector, rotate the plug 180' so the pink feed wire is exposed.  Then run a wire from that connector right out to the coil.  Use a larger gauge wire to handle the load. Tape up the connection so that plug you rotated stays in place.   No cutting required.  I might have pics somewhere.. it is easy.. except removing the dash to get to the wiring.  Mark

Thanks! That sounds like an excellent idea.   Will try it.

1969-1970 Shelby GT350/500 / Pink resistor wire

I've confirmed my resistor wire is functioning and my pertronix coil is only getting 5.6 volts.  Does anyone know if the pink resistor wire under the dash on a 69 shelby has a removable bullet connector?  I want to bypass resistor and get 12 volts to coil without splicing into OEM wires.   Any ideas? Thanks

Nice car, but the off-center stripe on the side marker light ruins it for me.   De-stripe and try again.  This isn't a Pinto.

QuoteThe GT350/500 should be centered in the scoop of the front fender and extends in a straight line all of the way back to the rear quarter where the wide part of the stripe splits the rear marker light opening.
+1...
I can't understand why so many people the marker light with the center stripe, but it seems more people miss the mark than hit it.  :-[

+1. It is hard to look at when I see a perfectly restored 69/70 shelby with the stripe nowhere close to the center of the rear marker light.  Such a shame.

On my '68 Shelby, the voltage at the same coil wire was much less than 12 volts, so I couldn't use it for pertronix.  On my 69, it was over 12 volts, so I used it.  Not sure how the "resistor" wire works, I thought it was supposed to reduce the voltage to the coil to below 12 volts, but that is not the case on my '69 shelby.  If you have 12 volts at start and run position of ignition switch, it should work fine.

I have a pertronix on my 69 shelby.  I used a multi meter and confirmed I had 12 volts on the coil wire from the engine gauge feed harness at both start and run positions of ignition switch.  So I just used that wire in the engine bay and didn't have do any wiring under the dash to install the pertronix.  It has been working for 10 years just fine.  My car is a tach car so if your car has a tach, it may work the same as mine.

Thank happened to my 69 GT350 convertible.  It was the ignition switch in my case, and my starter solenoid kept the starter engaged after the engine started.  Very bad day.

Sorry for your loss.  56 is way too young.

Gary, This was my first year at the event, but I can at least comment on what we did with the trailer/security.  Trailers/tow vehicles were parked at the pool parking area (I think).  It was a bit congested with mountain biker parked vehicles/other trailers when we loaded car on Saturday night, but it was doable.  We unloaded my convertible friday night and left it parked outside overnight at the lodge along with at least 20 other shelbys.  I wasn't worried about it since we were inside a park - perhaps I should have been, but no issues.  I've been caught in the rain driving my shelby so I am getting more comfortable with leaving it outside overnight, etc.  If not for my friend Vytas with an enclosed trailer and tow vehicle, I would not have attended the SAAC conventions at VIR, Poconos, Mustang 50th show in Charlotte, NC, etc.  I don't know how to do the tie down process.  Vytas has a lock on the hub so trailer could not be towed away very easily.  I have the car, and he has the towing capabilities, so together we can trailer my shelby.  It is a good team effort.  Hope this helps.
