1965 GT350/R-Model / 65 3259 715 Holley
March 06, 2019, 04:14:58 PM
Ran across a 3259 715 Holley that looks like it has a 50CC accelerator pump instead of the 30CC I think were originally installed. What, if any, effects would the larger pump have on the carburetor, other than not being correct?

Thanks

Replicas and Tribute / 65 Push Button Starter Switch
February 17, 2019, 06:04:10 PM
65 A-Code. Want to remove the existing cigarette lighter and replace it with a momentary push button starter switch. Anyone go down this rabbit trail before? Will retain original ignition switch and it will continue to start the car if key turned to "start" position. I want to remove lighter bezel and install a button switch that will start engine if key is in "on" position.
Any suggestions?

Replicas and Tribute / Cam Suggestions
February 12, 2019, 07:42:22 PM
Am having a 302 stroker (331) built for my sons 65 A-code and am searching for your suggestions as to which cam I should look hard at. Engine is a forged piston 10.5:1 compression, H beam rods, forged crank, AFR 205 heads to be fitted to a C4 3-speed automatic. Rear gears are 3.50:1 posi. Ignition will be MSD with EFI fuel delivery. Most likely Atomic EFI unit.  Want a hydraulic roller cam with lot of lower RPM torque with power thru 5500-6000.
Looking for suggestions as to lift, duration, overlap, LSA. Appreciate your thoughts. One suggestion I have received is a 218/228 .544/.544 112 LSA. Want one that shakes the ground at idle but screams. Remember, its an automatic.
Thanks

1965 GT350/R-Model / 65 Instrument Panel CLuster Lamps
January 08, 2019, 07:34:25 PM
Am working on a 65 instrument panel with the 2-wire plastic plugs for the oil light, Turn signal and alternator lamp. Does anyone know if these 2-wire lamp sockets are being reproduced or a good source for them. Ones I am working on are so worn, they fall out of the metal housing at slightest bump. Need three of them.
Thanks

When the upper control arm was moved 1 inch, did they do anything to the coil spring as in cut a coil off or was coil replaced and then aligned?

Ask a Registrar / Original Owner of 5S228
August 07, 2018, 11:37:05 PM
Have been trying (unsuccessfully) to locate original owner of 5S228. I know dealership it was shipped to but nothing of the original owner. Any way to track this down.
I have owned 5S228 since early 1967. I know owner was in Marines and flew on choppers. His insignia and squadron are still on the rear window...

1965 GT350/R-Model / 5S228 Stories
July 27, 2018, 10:03:21 PM
Not long after purchasing my car from a used car lot, I broke a valve spring and took it to the local Ford dealership for repair. Couple minutes after leaving car in shop, got visit from Service Manager wanting to know who removed the metal plate on drivers door and filled in the holes so well. They would not work on it because their rules required data plate information that just wasn't there, never was.
Even though it was a 65, the spring broke in 67 and apparently, Ford dealership did not understand why the plate was "missing". Thought they were going to call Barney on me for removing VIN numbers. Especially since other vin number on fender was covered by some small alum plate with rivets and a cute hood proper upper.

The Lounge / Spark Plug wire issues
April 07, 2018, 08:24:43 AM
Son was moving a plug wire just a bit while engine was running and found out his wires do not keep the electricity inside the rubber insulation like he thought it should. Is it common to get that much of a jolt by simply toughing a plug wire at mid-point between dizzy cap and plug and getting crap slapped out of him? Are plug wires failing and possibly cross firing at times? Engine is really strong but does have run on after it gets hot. Engine is 351/392 with MSD dizzy. Not sure who made wires though.
Thoughts?

1965 GT350/R-Model / 65 HiPo Distributor Points Cam
February 19, 2018, 03:42:15 PM
The hipo distributor has a 8 sided cam that opens and closes the points. Understand when points are closed, the coil is building energy and when the points open, the coil discharges the energy to the appropriate spark plug. Looking at the flat spots on the points cam, the flat spot is not completely flat. It has a very slight rise in center between the high points on the lobe. Looks like the slight rise would start to open and close the points before they reach the point when they are supposed to open. Almost like pulling bow string back 3/4 of the way before it is pulled all the way back. What is the function/purpose of the slight ridge between the flat spots?

Replicas and Tribute / Pink "Resistor" Wire and Pertronix
February 18, 2018, 05:34:36 PM
When installing a Pertronix Ignitor II or III module that really needs full 12volts, do you continue to use the pink "resistor" wire that's connected to ignition switch and main disconnect and tucked under the instrument panel or do you disconnect the pink resistor wire behind the ignition switch and splice close to main disconnect under dash in impossible location?

1965 GT350/R-Model / 65 HiPo dual point Dwell
February 11, 2018, 07:38:57 PM
65 HiPo 289 dual point distributor. Am told total dwell is 30-33 degrees. To get to 30-33 degrees total, primary points are set to 27 degrees dwell while secondary points are blocked off. When 27 degrees dwell is obtained on primary points, remove block from secondary points then adjust secondary points to get to the 30-33 degrees total.
Are the above dwell numbers accurate?
Looking at the dizzy pointer, shaft rotates counter clockwise. Primary points are the ones that open just before the other pair. If correct, the primary points are at the end of the strap connected to the other points and the condenser just before lead exits dizzy case.
Any comments/corrections most welcome.
