SAAC Forum Discussion Area / Re: The future of the SAAC
« on: August 14, 2018, 01:53:11 PM »
Every "entity" survives by support. I fit loses support it collapses. I have seen several forums go away because "go to" people leave. This forum has THE greatest network of experts in the field of "Shelbydom". IF that network falls apart because the experts flee , this forum will be doomed. ( IMHO). "To me" ownership is not a big deal , someone has to run it and if there is "something to lose" they usually put forth the effort to keep it going.  Sure SAAC is not the same as it used to be but little is as time marches on.
    Randy

A question that I have is the SAAC the club and who we pay membership THE SAME as the SAAC Forum?  Meaning the same people?  As I see it the forum is were we have all the “experts” as I see it, but I may be wrong.

SAAC Forum Discussion Area / Re: Silicone Brake Fluid Questions
« on: August 06, 2018, 05:51:06 PM »
It is prudent to point out to those that might happen upon this thread in the future that when you convert over to Dot 5 it is more then just adding the fluid .The entire brake system has to be flushed with solvent to get rid of any conventional brake fluid. Best to do when all new components because the dot 5 will not mix with conventional brake fluids and if it comes in contact with any remnants it will gel and you run the risk of clogging up the system . Even wheel cylinders and brake calipers need to be assembled with the DOT 5. Typically when a rebuilder lubricates the rubber seals during assembly they will use conventional brake fluid unless alerted otherwise.

Bob, as usual great advice and guidance.  I  wonder how many times you (and a few others out there) have saved Shelby owners butts with your keeping us honest.  Thanks again.

It's been my experience that Amazon might be the place to look as well.

VIN's Not Advertised....

For years and years I never advertised the VIN for cars I was selling.
There's a couple reasons

First, I'd receive many inquires via email asking for the VIN from buyers all over the country.
However, most of these "buyers" just wanted to look it up in the registry.
I always figured if you're really interested in purchasing you would just call and discuss the car.

Second, many of the vehicles I've had were projects and in need of restoration.  Some are worse than others.
Many new owners didn't want the VIN and photos of their car on the internet.
I became somewhat sympathetic to that argument.

It's like photos of your wife before your were married floating around...(if you know what I mean)

I've never refused to give a VIN of a car I've owned.
You just might have to call and ask for it.

Just my .02.   Totally agree with Bret

The Lounge / Re: Is ebay seller "MiamiViceShelby" on SAAC forums?
« on: July 29, 2018, 11:30:21 AM »

I can't buy from him or even make enquirers with him due to him blocking me.

C'mon man, I'm alright aren't I? :)

QSS

I’d suggest you have a friend buy it for you?

Wow. That sucks!  :(
It pays to have any car inspected prior to purchase.

I hope that he gets some of his money back, what he won't get back is all the frustration back.

I my opinion: An inspection is necessary on any car that you don't know personally,  The $1000or so saved by not having one is just not worth it.

This post is so much better to see and read than so many of the other posts out there.  This is exactly what SAAC should be about.  Of course this is only my opinion.

It’s all about either side’s perspective.   When Mom questioned
me, she always said “no matter how flat you make a pancake, there’s always two sides.”
Max

I like the “no matter how flat you make a pancake, there’s always two sides.” analogy.

My analogy is “His, Hers and the truth”.

Regardless this has been interestering reading.

Did you see this on eBay?

Hi Doug,

These are original and are very nice with a matching price tag.  I believe they are the first batch of 66 GT350 ten spoke wheels.  A set of four is very rare.  They usually got mixed in the later slightly narrow version with the spokes running to edge.

Thank you for sharing.

Cory

Cory, thanks and your comments are much appreciated - I have a set of 5 original (thinking that they are not a early set) that I am thinking of putting on my 66 Red Hertz car.

Jeff what a generous thing to do; but you do these types of things fairly often.

One question would this information be correct for a 66?

Thanks - Doug
