SAAC-49 / Re: SAAC 49 keynote speaker announced!
April 04, 2024, 01:43:23 PM
I recently heard Tom Cotter speak at the Simeone Museum (about Briggs Cunningham).
He was a very good speaker - engaging, entertaining, and had his info all lined up.
... looking forward to this  8)

Don't we still owe them money from last time?
I am sure Ken Eber straightened that out!

??? ::) :-\ :o
I wondered about that...

the SAAC Convention is THE PLACE to see the cars from Shelby American... plus there are 2 GT40's (Mk II and Mk IV) to go along with the very first Daytona Coupe at the Simeone Museum.
I can't imagine that you will be disappointed.

See you there  8)

The Lounge / Walk MS 2024 - in Memory of Nancy
April 04, 2024, 01:25:46 PM
Nancy (my wife) lost her battle with MS on Easter Monday 2024... this year I am fundraising and Walking in Memory of her  :'( and that 28 year fight.

Our Team is participating on Sunday 4/21/24 at Washington Lake Park here in South NJ (3 weeks after the Funeral)
As many of you know, Nancy was hit hard by Multiple Sclerosis... diagnosed back in the mid-90s while still in her 30's, and now it has claimed her life.
For anyone that isn't familiar, this is a nasty disease that that impacts the brain, spinal cord and optic nerves, which make up the central nervous system - and is mainly found in women ages about 25 to 50. There is no current prevention or cure.
For our family, 2023 was tough, and 2024 is brutal - highlighting how MS is not only an awful disease, but also makes recovery from other issues very difficult. I hope that funds raised will help fund research that finds a cure.
If you are interested in further details, you can visit the National MS website.
Thus my annual fundraising via Walk MS - I'm hoping that we can "knock it out of the park" this year in Nancy's Memory.
To make a donation - Simply click on the link - or contact me.

(Hopefully nothing here is out of line)
Thanks, Mark

The problem is reality never comes into consideration when .gov is involved.

I keep "hoping" (likely fruitless  ::)) that if more sources point out the realities... at least a few (vs only us throwbacks) will start to take note and maybe the tide will turn  ???

Interestingly, I read an article at Industry Week.com today titled, "Ford Postpones $12B in EV Investments".
That particular article says that Ford model e lost $36,000 per vehicle... seemed to be for Q3 2023.

Maybe some reality is starting to show?

I'll bump this up once before the end of the month (and the end of this Kickstarter campaign).
Here's part of an email from Graham regarding their work to-date:
Everybody we have met and interviewed / filmed has been unbelievably helpful.
Jay Leno gave us a 2 hour interview and a personal one hour tour of his collection.
John Morton said he had never experienced such a well informed interviewer.
We just don't appear able to stimulate the community at large to join with us.
Hopefully enough folks have signed on and they can get this Documentary finished to a high standard.

Thanks.

Thanks for posting, that is quite the study and looks like tons of good info 👍

(unrelated, but sort of related)
I'm still not seeing "the math" anywhere to show how we can "fuel" (= charge) the batteries for this "all BEV" dream?
Here in NJ, they'll still be fighting over the off-shore wind when I'm dead and gone... all the while ignoring the costs  ??? ::)

did you not know that was there?  ???

Yes, 1000% agree about this separate thread. Thanks to Vern for getting it started.

My $0.02 story- I've always figured myselt to be a bit of an outlier on here... I'm on the East Coast, and "only" have a red-headed b@stard step child car (relating to Shelby American).
However, as a long-time saac & forum member - and life-long car enthusist - it was very clear that Randy was "the Man" in terms of powertrain knowledge.
More importantly - beyond that - I could see that he was honest, sincere, helpful, generous, friendly, encouraging, patient, funny, plus always had a level head and a good outlook.
I requested help (via P.M.) from him when working on some Tiger engine upgrades a few years ago... Randy provided suggestions, answered every question and was an immeasurable help. almost finished results shown below prior to re-installation.
As someone said on one of the other threads, it's hard to imagine 5 guys replacing his knowledge and helpfulness.
Godspeed Randy, and prayers to his family and friends.

I'm very sorry to report that Randy Gillis passed away last Friday. Heart attack. I knew Randy for over 40 plus years. Very sad time.
John

Very sad to hear  :( :( :(. I never met Randy in person, but he was an inspiration and big help to me... and seemingly EVERYONE in the SAAC and Ford communities. I'm in shock.

I copied and pasted this from the Rootes Review (Tigers East/Alpines East Club newsletter) with the blessing of one of the movie's main driving force. Of course, they need some money to finish up and have the intended great result.
Of course, the Trailer starts with Ol' Shel himself  8)
They're making a 60-minute a documentary for the Tiger's 60th birthday next year.
Everybody who is anybody (and still alive) will be in it!

Back the film - Kickstarter.com campaign ends late October. Here's the link: https://bit.ly/3KPW0PJ

There is much more info at the Kickstarter link.
I've pledged and hope that others will think it is worthwhile as well.

CSX 3000 Series / Re: Ethanol, gas
June 24, 2023, 03:01:10 PM
In NJ we've not seen "real" gasoline for a looooonnnngggg time.
From what I've read and seen, additives such as StaBil and Star*Tron are supposed to keep the ethanol from separating and gathering water. I've been using StarTron for years... and have not seen any issues. Some internet reseach last year led me to try Biobor EB, supposedly better than the other additives... but it's too early for me to draw any conclusions.
(fwiw, I have 2 cars from the 60's with carbs and 2 from the 80's with factory injection)
Good luck.
