The Lounge / Nine inch rearend
April 12, 2018, 09:54:02 PM
I have a question regarding 9 inch rearends. What years had the smooth rear end housing without the dimple for the large ring gear, or better put when did they start putting the dimple into the housings 1967? Also when were the axle tubes necked down or all same size across the tubes?

x2..... The CJ is big brother in performance. The PI is no slouch but no match for big brother either in stock form. :-\

Super Gas runs on a 9.90 index, I don't think a 289 was ever run in super gas. You would need about 600 hp to get to that number. That doesn't mean the new owner couldn't slip in a mighty Big Block to get to that number, ;)

Well I'm not sure how you feel they cost less on purchase, or any time over the last 50 years, then any other FORD product? The cost was much less back in the day but still very expensive compared to any other Ford product. This is how the top of the food chain was derived-

Back in the day it was for weight transfer, today probably the 50 year old sags. Cougars are usually worse for sagging then the stangs for some reason.

Most of these cars are driven occasionally in normal conditions, normal speeds, normal temps etc. Theres no real need to go with the pricey stuff, when what ever is on sale will do. So plugs, gas, filters, oil etc will do just fine. I have some friends that feel better spending more on those items like 18.00 gallon of gas when 2.50 gallon will do the trick as well. Go with your gut feeling of what you need.

These cars are top of the food chain, always have been always will be. Many have told me that NO old performance mustang or SHELBY product back in the 60s-70s would ever become more valuable then 10k... (THEY) were wrong! It was also mentioned along the way that the collector car hobby is like a train, people get on and off at various times in their lives for different reasons. There is no good time or bad time, you get on when your comfortable to ride and ride as long as your comfortable. Enjoy the ride for all it brings over the years to you and your family, if financial gain is the most important aspect of the ride I would recommend something else to get involved with. Buy the best you can afford like houses, cars, jewelry, art work, etc. From the beginning of time people want nice things, corvairs and yugos are not on that list. ;)

Is this a 5 or 6 bolt block?

Usually on those deals if someone is not bidding, or falls way short of bidding anywhere near what the item is valued at, no info is shared for good reason. This eliminates the contenders from the pretenders... Read serious, or just wasting time. :-\

Please lets not manipulate the English language, there are others out there that can put a spin on what is original. Would you purchase a FAUX,FAKE,RECREATION,WANNABE,CONTINUATION, or a number of other words to put a SPINOFF of an ORIGINAL. Not me I would prefer the ORIGINAL PICASSO art work or an ORIGINAL Rolex watch or a Gucci bag well you get my point. Having something with a muddy past, made in a foreign land, frame rails, bodies and a host of items that put a negative vibe on the man and his companies complicate matters. To right the wrongs, most prefer his products when they were more pure and called ORIGINALS as we know them to be. Just my 2 cents worth-
