1967 Shelby GT350/500 / 67 GT500 4-Speed Tag
March 16, 2020, 11:09:33 AM
Good morning guys,
Hope you are doing fine.
Have a question:
Can any of you tell me what a typical 4-Speed transmission
ID tag says or better yet a picture.
RUG? what letter(s) after the RUG
My car was assembled at San Jose in the end of January 1967
which means the trans was assembled sometime in Nov-Dec 1966.
Thanks for your help.

Many years ago I bought a pair of original bulbs from Bob which were more like green/turquoise in color
than the one shown by J.D. At night they match the instrument panel light.

About 40 years ago I did the drop on my 67 in accordance with the Boss 302 chassis manual.
First I replaced the power steering with a manual steering and I set the alignment to:
Toe-In 1/8"
Camber -1/2 degree
Caster + 2 degrees.
Still have that set up and have never regretted it.

My 10 cents on this topic is, the increase of the value on these cars has caused the increase of demand for NOS parts.
We "rich" guys don't want reproduction parts on our cars and NOS availability is getting worse by the day.

My Swedish friend Rolf and I were cruising there in June of 1977. Had just bought my 67, #1317.
Remember a funny thing happening a few days later at a Ford dealership. I asked a guy on the lot
if they had Cobra air cleaners for sale and he answered, " I only sell cars I don't make them"
Me and Rolf had a good laugh about that answer.

Jim,
Do you sell the grommet for the positive cable separately and what size is the center hole
and the cable. Just checked my car #275 and the grommet center hole is 5/8" diameter and the cable
1/2". Consequently the ones I have in my car is most likely not the original type.

When I look at the bracket on your pictures another thing popped up in my brain.
Believe the bracket is for another car than a 65-66 Mustang. The reason is the cutoff of the corner.
Your one looks like it will point downward when mounted on the right (passenger) side head.
The one on my car point upward. See pictures.

Only 65 Shelbys had this hole in the bracket. The car on the picture is 5S114 and picture is from Paris, France
Don't know for sure when the change over happened but probably around June-July 1965.
Also, the hole was needed on cars with the coil placed on the intake like 64 1/2 Mustangs. Ford probably had
left over which was used in 65.

Chris,
I found the 3rd grommet and took some pictures and measurements. Experts like Bob and Jim can
check if these are like originals. As I said I bought them in a small plastic bag with handwritten
3 pcs of Battery Cable grommets for 65 Shelby and I still have the bag. Believe it was Max Kotlowski
who sold them and if my memory serves me right he had bought them from a guy in CA who had bought a lot of
parts from Shelby.
The measurements are: (estimated)
Diameter: 1.4768" or 37.5 millimeter.
Thickness: 0,1968" or 5 millimeter
Hole diameter: 0.63" or 16 millimeter. They fit in a hole 1" in diameter front and back.

Chris,
Many years ago (25) I found a bag with 3 grommets at a Dallas Car Show/Swap Meet. I will check if I can find
the 3rd one in my garage. If so, I send it to you.

This car was advertised in Sweden for SEK 16,000 (USD 2,000) back in 1977. I called on it and it was sold the same day
to Lars Rindeskar from the town of Borlange. We became good friends. The original engine and T-10 transmission as well
as the pod with the tach and oil pressure gauges had been stolen. Lars restored the car as an R-model.

Kram350,
What is the outside diameter of the hoses?
Mine are 3/8" and the clips used for the 3/8" fuel line are much too big
as the inside diameter of those lines are 3/8" My guess would be I need
1/4" or something.
