1966 Shelby GT350/GT350H / Re: Brake scoops painted?

Hey Brian, any idea if this painting change corresponds with SA changing their process from installing the brake duct mounts from internal to externally mounted?

Is the current consensus that most '66 cars had the rear brake scoops blacked out? Or was it based on the exterior paint color? For instance, did all black cars also receive scoops blacked out?

We’ll get those dates and go from there.
Thanks!

For the build date, I used this chart (ignore the green) and since his Ford VIN sequence portion is 164xxx, it says those cars went through SJ in Feb '66? Plus the cast engine block date code starts with 6Axx which I believe corresponds to Jan '66? We haven't crawled around inventorying sheet metal date codes yet, but are going to over Thanksgiving break to confirm all are dated sometime between Nov '65 and Jan '66?

For the C6ZX-A/B/C portion, what's the significance of the last letter (A/B/C)?

For the rearend tag date code, assuming we also want to find a tag dated Nov '65 (5L?) to Jan '66 (6A?)?

Thanks!

1966 Shelby GT350/GT350H / Drivetrain Tags
« on: October 27, 2023, 10:36:53 AM »
I'm helping my dad with his '66 (6s1097) and have a few questions regarding drivetrain tags. His Ford VIN estimates it ran through SJ in Feb '66.

For the T10M, my understanding is it didn't come with an ID tag of any kind, just the date codes cast into the main/tail housings?

For the rear end, I believe GT350s came with a Ford tag but with a unique stamping due to the ratio/locker options unique to GT350s? Should his car have a tag with the following format for a 3.89 open diff?

DSO      C6ZX-C         (FoMoCo within an oval)
3.89      XXX (DATE)      925 (3:89 BUILD CODE)

Thanks!
Brent

For trucks/trailers that aren’t racing, are we parking at the hotel? Also, is check in at the hotel?

Is that the museum in Martinez? I haven't been there yet but heard it is awesome. The SAAC 46 announcement email states they're going to try for a social there so hopefully that happens!

My dad and I will be there! Not too often conventions land in Cali!

As CSX2259 alluded to, the key issue is the owner selling the VIN: "Before cubing the Shelby, he removed and sold the serial number..."

Wanted to Buy / Re: '66 GT350 Painted Magnum 500 wheels

Just curious - are the chrome vs painted wheels the same besides the chrome? Couldn't the chrome just be stripped and wheels painted?

Up For Auction / Re: Unrestored but nice '66 on BaT

Beautiful '66! Love the green/gold combo and its driven history!

One photo I found interesting is the engine compartment. I've never seen shock towers with holes cut out for, what I'm assuming, is to provide UCA zerk fitting access. Was this a mod done before the 90-degree fittings became available?

Good luck with the sale!

1966 Shelby GT350/GT350H / eBay Shenanigans - 66 GT350 VIN Plate
« on: June 28, 2019, 08:23:20 PM »
Browsing eBay and this ridiculousness showed up. Appears this scammer is trying to sell an original '66 GT350 VIN plate, with matching Canadian title or registration, and the supposedly numbers-matching engine is available too. Seller says the engine available is "believed" to be from the same '66 GT350, so I'm assuming a verification of Ford engine VIN and SFM VIN hasn't been done with Howard.

Haven't contacted the seller but it'd be interesting to find out the SFM number and notify the current owner.

Replicas and Tribute / Re: Cam Suggestions
« on: April 08, 2019, 02:39:21 AM »
I never suggested the OP should randomly choose a cam that doesn't match his springs. I don't consider having a custom ground cam made that is optimized to your usage, but doesn't exceed your springs' specs, as half-assing it. Anytime you assemble an engine you obviously should check pushrod length and PtoV clearance; these are easy to check and the required tools cheap to acquire.
