The Lounge / Re: Cool Photo...now this is living

Seems it wasn't that out of the ordinary to have a tow hitch on cars then.  A '68 Shelby a friend of mine bought was used by the original owner to tow his sailboat!

Wanted to Buy / Re: WTB: S8MS-C Carb Autolite tag

something better than nothing? may as well pick up a caution fan sticker. (joking) phred

Kevin's tags are usually very good, I wouldn't consider it much of a compromise.

Charles, If you're unable to locate the one you're looking for, you might want to check with Marti Auto Works, they make reproduction carburetor tags for some models. Denny

Thanks for all the replies.  Went ahead and ordered one from Kevin... something is better than nothing.

Appeals / Re: upper control arm restoration
« on: February 25, 2018, 05:40:16 PM »
There's a 4 rivet reproduction upper control arms made by Rare Parts (or something like that).  They're a good 2nd choice if finding good originals becomes a lengthy endeavor.  The shape on the sides may need some tweaking.  I had an older set that I had to shave quite a bit off of to match to the correct dimensions as an original.  Blasted/tumbled and they came out real nice.  Replaced the ball joints with moog ones and C7 boots.

Thanks - that is the same car as the last two in my first picture post. Just wanted to cross reference for the viewers

No worries.  It's a good reference car, but things here and there don't add up, so suspect it had been 'played' with a bit.  Had to correct some items that were copied from that car on the '68 I have now.

This one...  these are pics I provided from a car at the MCA national in Va Beach in the late 90's.

Charles

Do you have any picture that show what you describe above with the screw?

I looked and couldn't find any pics.  Had a '68 metuchen convertible that I worked on a few years ago that had not been restored and had that type of setup.

Regarding the trunk mat installation on a convertible... I have seen original cars with the mat underneath the divider board, the flat screws going through the board, then the mat and into the body.

That red convertible in the pics above had some work done to it, so I would use the pics with caution.  I always thought it was a nice Unrestored example until studying all the pics closely.

SAAC Forum Discussion Area / Re: Service Replacement

No matter what the parts are called, it's up to the buyer to know what they are buying.  Sellers are not always forthcoming on their descriptions or may now know all the different terms.  If the buyer is not sure, there are great resources like this forum or others to help.  When it comes down to it, parts sold over the counter at Ford very rarely match exact 100% to what was installed at the Ford assembly plant.

1965 GT350/R-Model / Re: Drive Shaft Safety Loop Color
« on: February 21, 2018, 12:06:59 AM »
I don't know, but I hardly think that any R model should be considered regular production. I just remember them as natural.

It's the same drive-shaft loop on R & street.

Checked through my pics, the only natural ones I found were repros (no hole on the bottom and wrong shape)

I've only seen black, but there are guys on here that have been into these cars a lot longer than I have.

The drum blackout would have typically been done at the Ford assembly plant.

1968 Shelby GT350/500/500KR / S8MS-C Holley carb rebuild kit
« on: February 20, 2018, 11:03:48 AM »
What's the correct rebuild kit for an S8MS-C Holley, list 4234 carb?  Also, is the power valve that comes in the kit the recommended rating or should I go with something else?  Could only find one spec for '65' or '6.5'?

Also, does anyone know where I can get a correct tag?
