Wanted to Buy / WTB: Good used front bumper for 67-68
January 02, 2024, 12:16:02 PM
Looking for a presentable original front bumper for a 67/68.  Something like a 7 or 8 out of 10.  Needs to be straight, no cracks/rusty areas.  Light spotting and a few scratches here and there are ok.

For all of the coverage of this car, no mention of the original engine.
Interesting vocabulary utilized by the auction house: a 'prerequisite' 289 (?).
Any pics of the block casting date, engine assembly, or engine machining dates?

12 May 1965 SAI arrival Mustangs (which this car is) are easily cross indexed for validity.
Can a car attain 'SAAC Gold' or 'MCA Concours Gold' without its original engine?

Normally, unless the auction description specifically states 'numbers matching', it should be assumed that it's not.

Yes, a car can attain Gold in SAAC or MCA concours without an original VIN stamped block.  If the block was different, say a 302 installed in a '65, then that would be a major deduction... although at least with SAAC, we wouldn't allow a car with such a modification to be entered into concours.

The Lime Gold looks like one of the better matches I've seen to original.

What about the generic looking fuel pump was it changed out ?

Ouch.  Pretty sure it was a 3939S on there before.

I did a lot of work on 5S262, it's a good car for anyone looking.  Someone put a brown solenoid on for some reason and added a bunch of hang-tags.  I assume the missing brake pedal pad will be installed as well as the jack/lug wrench and bungee cord.  Otherwise, it looks pretty much how it was shown at MCA/SAAC.

No this type accident is 100% caused by low talent and a switch on the traction control. The ONLY way 90-95% of the population can drive a 500+ hp performance car is that the computer makes up for their lack of skills. Yes hard old tires aren't as grippy but the decent driver will adapt to the tire and not expect road race slick performance out of street tires.

'05-'06 Ford GT's didn't have traction control.  They didn't have cruise control either.

I have about 1,000 miles of seat time in an '05 GT.  My only issue with them is it's hard to see out the back and what's behind you.  Some may not consider that an issue, but driving the car on public roads/traffic, it's a bit of a nuisance.

Ford used Acrylic Enamel. I'm not even sure if that is still available anywhere? The most commonly used now that I see is two step, base/clear coat.

Easily available, just bought some a month or so back here in N. Carolina, Dupont Nason brand, single stage.

2-4 mils, it likely won't be consistent top to bottom.

Shaking at specific speeds is usually wheel/tire related.  Steering box wear would normally cause sloppy/loose steering.

Looks like a Canadian version.

Talked to a couple of guys that worked there about 20 or so years ago.  They moved locations, not sure exactly when, 70's or 80's and a bunch of paperwork that was in some cabinets was thrown away.  Evidently had info about Thunderbolts and such.  A shame...

There's an A/C-specific horn for the LH side that has a 90 degree bent mounting tab and goes through a different hole.

#3 value according to Hagerty

Seems like a good buy, thought there would be at least a 250k reserve.  Might have been less drama with an engine without a VIN stamp?
