My SPEC case is currently in my Hertz car but "I" believe the "DIF" letters ( Detroit Iron Foundry) are not on a SPEC case. Later "DOOW_B" , small bearing cases have the MCC ( Michigan Casting Center) logo.

I currently have '67 GT500 #1595 for sale and it has a SPEC case with DIF casting. Ford build date was 3/23/67. See photo attached.

Wanted to Buy / '66 GT350 Painted Magnum 500 wheels
June 29, 2020, 07:18:29 PM
They are the same. I intend to strip the chrome ones that I have if necessary, but would rather avoid the time and expense of doing that if a suitable painted set can be found.

Given how unpopular the painted wheels once were, I am hoping someone has some laying around that got changed out for chrome ones or ten spokes during some long ago restoration.

Need 5 but will consider any quantity. Any condition also considered so long as they are restorable. Must be original 14 x 6 PAINTED with 3.375 to 3.50 backspacing - I already have chrome ones. No Granada/Monarch wheels, please!

SAAC 4 was held at the Downingtown Inn. It was owned by actor Mickey Rooney at the time. Since demolished and a big box store built on the site.

Where am I now? Well let's see...the wiring was old and brittle if not cut and modified to support newer race devices. I have since acquired an OEM style concours harness. I was advised early on that it's a "early" Lucas wired cobra. Apparently less is known about these fewer Lucas wired with Ford generator cars. While 90% of the wiring is in place I'm still working on finishing up. Some devices like the horns I'm still working on how they attach to the chassis. If you have an early Lucas/Ford wired car I'd love to hear from you! Any help would be greatly appreciated in supporting this wiring getting completed and the car fired back up!

I owned CSX2188 for 36 years and back in the 1980's I worked with a company called Rhode Island Wiring. I loaned the harnesses out of it to them to make correct reproductions. They did a beautiful job and I installed their new harnesses into the car at restoration.

Their web site is http://www.riwire.com/ Go onto the site and click on "foreign vehicles" then "AC". It will give you a drop down to various AC models including Cobra. They list variations by chassis number, including the Lucas/Ford hybrid harness such as was in my car. They have the main harness plus five subharnesses available, so if you need only a lighting or other subharness you can buy that separately.

Good luck with CSX2177 and I hope this helps  you out!

SAAC Forum Discussion Area / Carburetor Question
June 02, 2020, 06:11:10 PM
We had this problem a few years ago and my very astute mechanic traced it to the throttle plates not being properly seated into the bores when the carbs were rebuilt/restored. This prohibited them from fully closing, causing increased idle speed.

He later found the same condition in a friend's GT500. Loosening the throttle shaft screws and manipulating the plates solved the problem in both cases.

Up For Auction / 1969 GT350 on Bring A Trailer

I owned this car in 2002 and have an extensive description of it that I prepared at that time, including its complete history from new through when I sold it in 2003. I also have photos that appeared on my web site at that time.

If any Forum member has serious interest in #377 I would be willing to share this information with them. I recall that it is an decent driver class example and it does have a colorful history.

Left: Thomas Edison, Right: Henry Ford

I can offer an interesting anecdote regarding Edison's posture in this photo. You will notice that he is leaning in rather closely to Ford.

Some years ago, I had the privilege of meeting Bill Ford, Jr in his office atop the Dearborn "Glass House". For the uninformed, he is the Executive Chairman of the Ford Motor Company.

He provided a tour of his office, in which there are displayed various photos of Ford family members. One depicted his great grandfather, Henry Ford I and Thomas Edison together. Mr. Ford called our attention to the fact that, as in the photo posted here, Edison was leaning in close to HF I. He explained that Edison was terribly hard of hearing, but his vanity would not allow him to use any sort of amplification device. So he usually had to be quite close to hear conversation, and even then HF I often had to almost shout to make himself heard.

Bill Ford observed that Edison is often in this posture in photos of himself with various of his associates, as can be seen here.

Using Partsvoice.com I find 5 dealers who have the C9AZ-12171-A points in stock. The Motorcraft number is DP5.

The Autolite / Motorcraft number for High Performance dual point applications is DP6. The DP5 is for a six cylinder, although it will physically interchange.

The Lounge / Grammar ----
May 06, 2020, 11:37:51 AM
OK - let me enter my pet grammar peeve - the proper application of "Less" vs. "Fewer".

"Less" is used when referring to a non countable item - e.g. "The restoration was less than adequate"
"Fewer" is used when referring to a countable item - e.g. "There are fewer than ten of these left in the world".

So statements in ads such as "There were less then fifty built" are cringeworthy. But I routinely see this error, including in newspaper and other periodical articles. And please don't ask "What's a newspaper or a periodical?".

And I must give credit to the elementary school nuns who drilled this into me between whackings with a pointer or ruler. For an historical reference on this, view the scene from the Blues Brothers film where Jake and Elwood visit the Penguin:

I'm trying to remember who made them as I bought one for my 68 over a decade ago. I also got the emergency flasher stalk off the same guy as those were prone to breaking on tilt wheel assemblies . Gary

I think the person you are referring to is Rick Peraino. He is located in PA and manufactures and sells tilt column parts & accessories plus restored ashtrays for Shelbys. I have bought many of those 68/70 emergency flasher knobs from him.

His phone number is 610-246-0858 and email is rmcproducts@pobox.com

Appeals / 1965 K Code Fastback Engine Question

Fairlane production at Dearborn ended on June 19, 1964. Dearborn also built Cougars, but that production did not begin until 1966. So I expect that these other cars were all Mustangs, but I can find no record of what specific models they may have been, or how they were equipped.
