1969-1970 Shelby GT350/500 / part identification

The first photo is of the brackets that mount the extension shafts for the rear quarter window regulator handles on a convertible. They were necessary due to the Shelby unique rear seat side trim panels, which are deeper than those in a regular Mustang convertible to allow room for the roll bar.

The second photo is a support bracket for the front grille assembly - it attaches to the hood catch support in front of the radiator - see photo.

The third one has me stumped but I am certain someone here knows what it is!

Up For Auction / Shelby sale scam

I did perform that Registry check and determined that the orange KR pictured was #3397. We initially thought it was a typo in the ad and so my customer proceeded to explore it further. I did not want to mention the actual number in my alert, focusing just on the fact that the web site, as it appeared, was a scam.

Up For Auction / Shelby sale scam

This is an alert regarding an elaborate Shelby scam posted online.

A '68 GT500KR and a '69 GT500 hardtop are currently shown on a web site for Heinrich's Vintage Car Shop in Columbia Station, Ohio. Both cars are priced well below market.

Heinrich's is a legitimate restoration business but does not sell cars. Reportedly, they allowed their internet domain name to expire through an oversight and before they could act to renew it, a scammer hijacked the site and is using it to bogusly offer cars previously sold elsewhere.

Here are the links to the Shelbys:
https://heinrichsvintage.com/listing/1968-shelby-gt500-kr/

https://heinrichsvintage.com/listing/1969-ford-mustang-shelby-gt500/

One of my customers was interested in the KR and contacted me for advice. I was immediately skeptical due to the pricing, the fact that the posted VIN on each car did not match the configuration of the one pictured, and no photos of VINs or other identifiers were shown.

In the meantime, my customer inquired to the number in the ad and was contacted by an individual who identified himself as Edward Walker, sales manager. My friend next wisely engaged the services of a reputable inspection company for an in person evaluation. The scam was uncovered when the inspector, who is local to and familiar with the actual Heinrich's, contacted them about the car.

Subsequent investigation discloses that "Edward Walker" is a serial scammer, who for some reason operates continuously under this name. Several individuals have lost tens of thousands of dollars to him. Various brands and types of collector cars have been involved.

He is known to Homeland Security, which is investigating and pursuing him on fraud charges. If you have any information regarding this individual, you are asked to contact:

QuoteBill what you are exposing isn't the original factory materials, correct? You are just showing the outcome of dry ice blasting.

No, the exposed primer is the factory original. The car was with the original owner until early 2023.

........I'm trying to decide the best course of action for my '67. It was a Gotham Ford car and is so typical of Bill Kolb sales has a heavy undercoating on it. Cleaning that stuff off is time consuming and will detract from my time of contemplating the meaning of life and what is the Universe. So I thought I would revisit this thread with a different approach?

In my view, the best approach to this situation is dry ice blasting. Although it can be costly, it is the most effective means of fully removing undercoat without affecting the underlying red primer. By way of illustration, attached is an "in process" photo of a '70 Boss 302 that we are working on. This shot shows one side as undercoated and the other after being dry ice blasted.

Attached are photos of a currently available reproduction '65 GT350 tray. The vertical posts are secured through holes drilled into the trunk floor extension as seen in the last photo.

The original tray is a shallow plastic unit, p/n S1MS-10732-A. Attached is the Shelby American build sheet for my GT350 SFM5006. The battery hardware is shown on page 4.

I believe this photo appeared in a mid 1960's Playboy magazine article about sports cars on college campuses

I think it was Popular Hot Rodding. Published between 1962 and 2014, part of the Motor Trend group. Best known for their "Project X" '57 Chevy build series.

The gaskets that come with the Edelbrock heads are Fel - Pro made and equivalent to the Print - O - Leak. They are most unsatisfactory.

+1 - I had to have a 427 rebuilt some years back after it filled up with coolant from a failed intake gasket. As I recall, the rebuilder used an improved version with a metal perimeter around the water passage but I don't recall who produced it.
