I'm pretty sure that the original Shelby part is different than the repro. Same dimensions but different look. In the distant past I seem to remember a rebuild kit (service?) being offered for the original - pre repro availability. The arm on the steering box was also longer and the box used the same quicker ratio as the power steering box.

Use something with a GL4 rating. GL5 could eat the syncros depending on what yours are made of. I'm pretty sure 90W was the original rating. I agree no synthetic. I did some homework on this when I got my Model A. The PO had used synthetic and the syncros in my 39 trans and overdrive were too slippery to engage without some grinding. Changed to orig recommended fluids and all is good.

IHOP always served breakfast all day in LA. When I was still working in the field it was my favorite breakfast for lunch on rainy days. So did the Pantry but there was always a long line.
They filmed it at Angelo's Burgers in Lynwwod. They've got several places but their Anaheim one was the best. Carhops on skates - looks like that's still going on. Haven't been there since the 90s. Even Bob's Big Boy only has carhops now and only on Friday evenings and no skates in Burbank.

Yes the Shelby VIN tag exists and it is on a restored car. Period reports and previous owners indicate how little of 105 is left from when it departed SA.

Interesting cam drive. I wonder had they used that instead of chain if the SOHC would have run NCSCAR.

Quote from: tesgt350 on April 15, 2024, 01:36:29 PMOn a different note, we know SAI built non "K" Coupes for Racing in 65?, 66 & 67, did SAI ever build any non "K" Fastbacks for Racing in 65?
No - Larry Zane said that the Donahue car 105 (which he owned at the time) had been rebuilt on a new T (6 cyl) fastback bought at a local dealer.

From an earlier post on the car....
The Donahue car is hard to keep up with. Registry says 5r105 was "lightened up" so much in '65 they had to replace it with a "body in white" for the start of the '66 season. (Was that even a thing back in the mid 60's. I've never hear that term used on anything other than the 2008 and up Cobra Jets powered cars.. These were not the 50 produced each year.) I'm thinking the 6 cylinder car might be this same replacement.

Then when it was sold to Yale Kneeland for the '67 season. A wreck forced them to replace the car's front clip. Later at Marlboro on July 16th, it was rolled in practice. Parts were swapped onto a Hertz rental for the race and removed afterwards. Was that the end of this cars race history? I have to wonder how much of the current car is really 5r105?

Looks like the hinge froze and they forced the hood breaking the glass and bending the steel insert. You need to first get the steel straight, aligned and secured then build up the outer surface. Since these were smooth on the inside the fix will be easy to conceal.

A kid that lived across from us was 10 when they came out. He started saving his lawn mowing money and when he turned 16 he bought one. I'd wager he'll die still owning it.

Yes. They even had a guy that flew 100+ mph drones next to the car on the front straight. They were very loud and the battery was only good for about 3 minutes.

Pete Brock has replicated the hood he wanted for the OVC R Models. This one also has the front apron he wanted. 002 is easy to spot. It has the large rear wheel openings that SCCA nixed. The production R Models got smaller flaring.

Very good - Riverside is where I lived my misspent youth from about 1961 until it closed. The house that Gurney built. Everyone else was a guest driver there. Yes it was the home track all the big name SoCal racers but Gurney was the most successful in every type of car.  Watch the spots with Dave McDonald - America's original drifter. He was able to make any car too wide to get past. Ken Miles standing next to his flipped stockcar is a classic. No one who ever sat in Turn 6 can forget watching Petty lean his car against the guardrail and nail the throttle to get past someone.

Let's not forget the Donahue car was badly crashed and replaced with a T code (6 cyl) Fastback. It was also painted dark blue........

Was the story created before 002 came back from Mexico? The "documentation" has 2000 on it - and of course no signature.

This should be in SA History section - I imagine the building will be visited by the SAAC paparazzi over the next couple of weeks to document it's passing. There will also probably be lots of dumpster divers looking for souvenirs.

It's been quietly for sale for the last couple years.

OVC is looking for a new home - https://www.shelby.com/Vehicles/OVC-65-GT350  Time is critical if you know of space in LA/OC give Jim a call.
