Bob hit the nail on the head.  I do not know for absolute sure how many miles are on the current set up.  But the PO did the engine and trans overhaul between '95 and 2000 so I have to believe he put in a new clutch at that point.  He barely drove the car.  My guess is the set up has certainly less that 10,000 miles on it and possible less than 5,000.  So I have no reason to believe the clutch or pressure plate are bad.  But the throwout bearing does squeal especially when cold.  So I was just thinking while I swapped transmissions I would swap the bearing ion it was easy.  I have never done it before so not sure exactly what is involved.  But I rebuilt a 66 Mustang when I was 17 years old and knew nothing and that did not stop me.

I am considering replacing my throwout bearing when I swap out my transmission.  I am wondering two things.  1) is there a good place to buy a throwout bearing for the GT350?  2) Does anyone have any exploded views or how to documents for replacing the bearing?

Thank you, Corey

What a great project.  I look forward to seeing the progress.

What an awesome story and what a cool mom!

I purchased 2 new rear axle bumpers because my car did not have them.  The bumper is not symmetrical in that one corner has a much larger radius than the other.  I am wondering how to install these?  Should they be installed with the large fillet inboard or outboard?

Bob,

Thank you.  I wondered if it was something like that, I was just not sure they used such a thing in 68.  Well that is awesome I hate when I cannot understand why something is doing what it is doing even though it is doing it correctly.

1968 Shelby GT350/500/500KR / 1968 Shelby trunk light

In cleaning up my trunk this past weekend I got my trunk light functioning.  It works just the way it is supposed to but I can not figure out how.  Going in I did not know what made the light turn on and off because there is not visible switch like you see in the door to turn the light on when the trunk is opened.  However the light is on when the trunk is opened and when you get it about half closed it turns off.  Where is the switch located that is doing this?

I would like to get the correct trunk mat for my February 12 1968 GT350.  I see on Thecoralsnake.com that the speckled mat is what is discussed.  I have seen plaid in many cars.  Is it an either or situation or should it be speckled?

Also where is the best place to buy one of these.

Pete talks about  a pad that goes between the mat and the fuel tank.  Is that a separate part or is it attached to the mat.  If separate where is the best place to buy this as well?

Steve, I have been to Carlisle and Hershey but never in my Shelby.  I know I am talking to a member of the 200,000 mile plus club but I am barley scratching the 2000 mile club.  Maybe we caravan there?

Thank you Chris, I will check that out.  Obviously would have to have the harness out of the car to do that.

I was a bit afraid of that Bob but I think I will try the two solvents suggested by billups76 and if it just does not work out I will give Pete a holler and buy a new cable.

Thanks for the help guys.

I am in the process of freshening up the trunk in my 68 GT350 using the Coralsnake website as a guide.  The wiring in my trunk was unfortunately painted body color when they painted the trunk.  Is there any good way of stripping this paint without damaging the harness?

I would definitely be interested in attending.  I do not think I would drive my Shelby that far but would still like to check it out.

Thank you.  I always prefer originals.
