Original cable threads is 14 TPI, top image, as identified in the MPC. The repop, as measured be Dave, is near 20 TPI, lower image .  The finer thread pitch is harder to see in this clearer image.

When the radiators were first put together, they all likely had the baffle,  but during rebuild many are left out.  They are not needed to be fully functional.  Finding an original baffle will be very tough.

Hi Todd,

Your car 6S1227 is likely a San Jose February 1966 build, so  1-66 rad would be nice, but a 12-65 or 11-65 would also work nicely.  If all you need is to replace the top, watch for a Mustang six cylinder radiator with a date code that works for you.  This will be the most economic choice. These can be found at local swap meets or your favorite auction site.  It is the same top as the V8 radiator.  Then have the AMK radiator tag C4ZE-M2 soldered on to complete the transformation.  Patients will also be a factor.

Last, it needs to look identical to the top tank shown below with the W-MO and your favorite date code.

Best of luck

Cory

P.S.  Don't take it apart yourself unless your are a professional.  I ruined the one in the attached image by doing my self.  I split an edge.

Up For Auction / COBRA shift knob - What is it?
« on: February 21, 2024, 11:26:07 PM »
What is this?  Truck COBRA shift knob?  Looks old.  The basic knob is exactly like the shift knob in my 66 Ford Truck F100 4X4.  The knob has a broad applications across the Ford line.   The early COBRA insert is formed convex to fit into a machined recess on the shift knob.  Has anyone seen this shift knob in a Ford catalog?  I expect it is aftermarket.  Looks commercially made.  It will not fit on a Mustang shifter.  The thread pitch is too small.  They must not have sold well.  I have never seen one before.

Thanks

Cory

Wow Dave, you are the man.  That is completely different.  There should be no confusion there if one finds a HiPo choke cable at a swap meet and has this bracket.  I was under the impression the difference was very subtle.  This is not.

Thank you

Keep in mind that there were a few Ford vehicles of the period that used choke cables with the same knob. Only the brackets and length of the cable differed based on vehicle model.

Hi NC TRACKRAT,

You are correct.  The Mustang cable length is 57.6 inches (MPC shows 57.62 in).  The Fairlane is shorter at 38.6 inches for 1964 and 58 inches for 1965 according to Tony Gregory in "The 289 High Performance Mustang".  He does mention the brackets are slightly difference but gives no details as to the differences.  If anyone can share the differences in the brackets, that would be great.  This is needed to distinguish the 1965 Fairlane cable from the Mustang cable.  The difference of 0.38 inches is marginal at best to determine the application.

The MPC shows two part numbers for the Mustang and Fairlane cables and brackets.  Anyone with a Fairlane bracket?

Thanks

Here is side-by-side of the cable bezel.  I’ll see if Brian can get me a clear image of the bezel, but you can see the differences that Bob describes.

Hi Bob, good eye on the threads.  Brian will get me a clearer image of repop threads tomorrow night, but this is what I have now.  Even with bad image you can see difference.  Nice

Hi Bob, can you post an image so we can see the differences?

Thanks

I also see the small “tang” on the original is bent as a radius were the repop is straight.  See attached images.

I agree the character “C“ is different, but the differences to me are pretty subtle and difficult to describe for someone to be able to detect the difference. The narrower ribs on the repop knob is much easier to see and discribe.

Here is a confirmed repop, showing the knob with narrow ribs.  Also, notice the bezel behind the knob is a dull finish , not chrome or shiny.  (Thanks Brian for image.)

Thanks

1966 Shelby GT350/GT350H / HiPo choke cable - Original vs Repop
« on: February 20, 2024, 10:52:18 PM »
Hi all,

Has any one done a side-by-side comparison between an original/servive part HiPo cable to a repop?  It would be valuable to be able to ID a repop.  Finding close images of repop is difficult, but I did find a close up knob.  The repop knob has a narrow rib and wider gap between ribs, especially when compared to original.  Attached are two images for comparison.  Are there other differences that can be shared?

Thank

Cory

I haven’t looked closely at the pictures so this car might not be a perfect example but if you had a car like this and the original frame was unrestorable what do you do? Is it still the same car on a different frame? Does it make it worth a lot less?

If the car is re-bodied, yes "It is worth a lot less."  A re-body is slight better than a clone and a long ways from an original car.  I expect this car is very restorable.  But I wonder why it has not been touched in the last ten years.  Is there something else going on?
