Nice article.  I like that the car is driven and seen.   I find their description of "half-decade" funny, which is only five years.  I think they meant to say half-century, 50 years. The article references this time period twice.

I see the GT350H still host the Mico Master Cylinder.

Ron, I like your car and that you have owned it from back when you purchased after rental service.  Very cool.

Do we get to hear any stories from back then?

You also want to have the correct top.  There is an absent vent tube on the choke side and the casting is not drilled for vent.  I will post an image later if no one beats me to it.  The absent feature can be seen in the images from Fast Fords.  The absent feature can be recreated by remoivng the tube and welding and smoothing the hole.  Unlike what Dan described, the choke stop cannot be recreated.

Hi 67 GT350 owners,

Here is your chance for a NOS spacer.  The seller also provides some clues to other applications.

NOS, new old stock, water pump fan spacer, FoMoCo part number C4AZ-8546-B. Total length including pilot is 2.74 inches, without pilot 2.44 inches.  Used in a few 60's Ford cars with 289 and FE engines, most notably 67 289 HiPo K-code Mustang and Shelby GT350. Very rare assembly line version, Ford switched to a different style with a C8 casting number in 1968 which is much more common. This is a very nice original part. Includes four used bolts, don't know if they are OE. The applications listed below are from the 60-68 Ford MPC:

- 1964 Galaxie, except A/C, 352 and 390
- 1966 Galaxie, except A/C, 352, 390, and 428 (exc. PI)
- 1967 Galaxie, 352, 390, and 428 (exc. PI)
- 1968 Galaxie, Police, 390 and 428
- 1967 Fairlane, with A/C, 289
- 1967 Mustang, 289 Special
- 1967 Falcon, A/C, 289

Hi Stangman39,

Your subject makes the carb sound like a 4100 series HiPo carb when it is the Holley 3259 715 carb.

Best of luck

The carb is C6ZF-C for standard transmission and C6ZF-F for automatic.  The standard transmission carb's are much easier to find, but will still require some patients.

This one just sold recently, February 2019, for $1100 with shipping.

Hi all,

Please tell me your experiences with the KONI shocks and their stiffness.  I just received some rebuilt shocks with the original gland nut and they are super stiff.  They barely extract with my full body weight, around 190 lbs.  I built a fixture with rope so I can suspend my entire weight on the shock.  The shock does extend, but very slow. They do compress easier, but still stiff.  When I install these, should I be concerned about them pulling off or clasping the upper shock mount?  The upper shock mounts do have the washers to help spread the load out.  Will the shock loosen up some with use?

Thanks

Thanks for the responses.

More info:  the block date code is 6A26 and the engine assembly date is 6B10.  With respect to the VIN numbers supplied by Cory, my Ford VIN 189--- falls in the April production run.

Does anyone know whether or not a production record from Ford exists that would list a firm production date for a specific VIN?

Hi Red66,  The San Jose VIN your provided 189XXX does suggest April time frame.  This VIN does not fall into an overlap, so that helps.   With the 6B10 for February 10, 1966 engine assembly date does support a mid/late April date.   I will guess around 04-21-66.   What are the SAI dates for shipping?  Plus you need to account for the sheet metal stamping dates to balance out your estimates.  In the end, you will only be able guesstimate a range, maybe a two week period.  That is the best we can do at this time.  The build date will be book-ended by the engine assembly date and the SAI shipping date.  Go find a 1966 calendar and mark the known dates.  Then you will have to use your intuition and apply some realistic flow time between operations  (FTBO).  Assume some FTBO for shipping engine to San Jose, maybe two weeks.  Time for the engine to sit an San Jose waiting.   Apply some time in the San Jose final assembly and transportation to SAI.  Then work backwards and apply some FTBO from the SAI shipping dates to reflect the modification time a SAI.  How do the dates line up?  Give it a try. Adjust the FTBO's to construct a reasonable sequence.  That will get you close.  This will only work for a typical scenario.  If the car was pulled out of the San Jose line or sat in the SAI back lot for months, it will be tougher to estimate.  Based on the 189XXX VIN, your car was built during the end of GT350 production, probably in the last 250 GT350's.

Best of luck

Hi Red66,

It also helps to have the engine assembly date to compare against these predicted dates.  If the door data scheduled date from these other car's put your cars San Jose scheduled date before the engine assembly date, you will need to adjust the actual build date from the scheduled build date.  Below is a tool you can use to also estimate.  Proportion your car's Ford VIN to the manufacturing days in the month.  Consider the below as a planning tool, for scheduling with the part supply chain for parts on dock back in the day,  not the actual build.   If you need help, send me a PM.  Best of luck.

Cory

Did some background on these a number of years back and I found each individual (rental cars didn't often travel very far from their base back then) region to identify and "mark" cars the way they choose.

As I collected the different methods and styles I started seeing a thread with method and location that often did reflect the regional office the cars (Shelby and non-Shelby Hertz rental cars) were found with.

Dymo tape was popular - both in the typical plastic and the aluminum tapes (each with different stamping devices) for this purpose

Location was dependent on year in general as was the coding. Some were short (not allot of printing) while others were fairly long. Bumpers, door jambs, under hood location and mirrors seem to be the most often used.

Would be interested, Cory thanks for at least providing where the car in the first picture was assigned to -  so I can add it to the collection and the spread sheet. Collection is small but more often than not the labels have been removed at some time in the past by owners. Also I would guerss based on what we've seen so far most Hertz regions didn't use this type of identification for the cars. Guessing it was an earlier car?

Did find and purchase an both types of Dymo machines and tapes so that I could help with cars that have been done in the past. Not sure if its worth finding and buying for a single car - especially the metal tape one

Hi Jeff,  The GT350H with the 004AT marking is in the lower 1700's.  I am not it would make any difference, but here you go.  I expect this form of ID'ing the car might be the just local Hertz agency, not necessarily all of them.

It be a tough manual scan through the registry to find the other Nashville TN GT350H's. It be a piece of cake if the data were accessible in word document or similar.  It would be interesting if the next 66 GT350 registry listed the cars by Hertz Agency.

Thanks

Cory

Hi all,

I was visiting a buddy last week and was checking out his ex-rental car un-restored 1966 GT350H.  I was examining the rear view mirror closer and noticed this hand made sticker tag with markings  "004AT" on the back side of the mirror, only visible from outside the car.  Do you suppose this is a left over artifact from the rental cars days and was an identification for the local Hertz Rental Agency?  Is it possible the code ID'd the car as No. 4 Automatic Transmission?  The car was rented in Nashville TN.

Anybody else ever see one of these?

Thanks

Hi Nate,

Nice wheel.  How is the horn button pieces and the steering wheel wiring and male connectors?  Is it all functional?  Does the spring have the insulation present to prevent shorts?  How are the wire female connectors?

Thanks

   Cory,
It was also known as the "taxi cab servo"  in the transmission rebuilder's circles.  Out here in California a taxi was good for about a year and a half with the original purchasing company. After that they often went to a secondary company and by 4 or 5 years were scrapped ( high mileage and falling apart) or sold to the public. Forty years ago I went on a mission to find a used one at any of the Southern California core suppliers and there were none to be found . I bought three right from Ford and all were the C6TP version ( service part)
My experience on the changeover date is the same as Tim's and YES the revised part is thicker in the flange to curb flex related cracking caused by higher line pressure in the "K" code transmission.
  Randy

Hi Randy,

Yes, taxi and even police.  But try to find one of these cars to get a "C" servo for cheep.  I recalling checking the Ford MPC for Galaxie, Fairlaes, Mustang etc. and seeing taxi and police cars.
