The Lounge / Re: 1968 SHELBY registry
March 23, 2020, 04:35:11 PM
On behalf of all '68 Shelby owners/caretakers/enthusiasts:

Many heartfelt thanks to all the guys who contributed their time, energy, photos, archives, and knowledge to produce this Herculean effort among automotive tomes.

And to all the wives, GFs, and families who put up with their fanatical quest.

Aren't those the same snowflake kids who think a Texas-sized island of plastic floating in the ocean is killing all the turtles?

What hypocrites.  Clean up your trash from the beach, you morons.

Glad you weren't caught and incarcerated, Richard.

I took my '66 E-Type out today and as soon as I got the revs up on my favorite twisty road, two Sheriff motor-officers were coming from the other direction, around a corner.  They both looked at me and I just waved.  My usual response.  I half expected to see them in my rearview any minute, but they kept on pedaling.

Check out this photo from today at 4PM on Pacific Coast Highway north of San Diego. It would normally be bumper to bumper. Great day for an old car drive.

Gotta make the best of the situation.  I'm declaring tomorrow Burn Out Day, and will be doing my part with my big V8 cars to make sure enough smoke is created to kill any virus near me.

Great stuff, guys!   Thanks for posting.

+1    I plan on doing exactly that tomorrow.   May go out for a drive in everything I own, over the weekend.

Thanks Ed and Bob for the explanation.

I realize why Ford did it at the factory (easier) but does painting the water pump bypass hose weaken it in any way?

Wouldn't a rubber hose prefer to be unpainted?

Jim,
Do you have any of the un-cut version?
Thanks,
Van

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / Re: 67 photos from the web

He was simply trying to see if Carroll's saying "There's never enough horsepower, just not enough traction" was true.

Wow, great photo!  Amazing that it hasn't been painted over in all the years since CS was there.

Does it still exist?

I recently bought one of those (twist-on, not push-in) for my 427 with the cast aluminum covers.

It seemed to fit well, and snug, but I lost it on the first drive in the car.  I re-ordered one and think I will put a daub of black silicone on it before installing.

Any other thoughts?

Without causing a Riot or more Chaos.... I have heard no one come forward to claim the purchase (or anyone who has TRUE actual knowledge)
that the "Bullitt Mustang Actually Sold for the stated sales price"

As a previous owner of (2) 1965 GT350R cars and know 5R002 quite well... It's the real deal and hopefully will go to someone who loves and cares for it as much as John Atzbach has.

My 2 cents... There is ZERO comparison between Bullitt and 002.

I believe the bullet car was bid up by Mecum, "Franks guy" supposedly won the bid and now Mecum has been negotiating with buyers to find it a new home and the seller isn't happy or hasn't accepted the lower offers.  There is no other explanation for no one claiming to be the owner of the car.

Ok guys, can we at least put this rumor to bed?

1) the car did find a real buyer.

2) that buyer, at least for now, wishes to remain anonymous. I'm sure the hobby will know sometime in the near future exactly who purchased it.

3) why remain anonymous? Honestly, I don't know..but if I spent 3.75m +\- on a car and wished to remain anonymous for a time, I'd hope that I'd earned the right to that esp given the price paid.

Rest assured, the bid on the car was real. I'm sure as heck not going to share the buyer though, the buyer can reveal himself at some point or give people permission to announce it if it's his prerogative to do that.

Kind regards,
Vern

Aha!  My vote is on Vern as the secret buyer.
