1968 Shelby GT350/500/500KR / Bell housing finish
April 17, 2024, 11:56:30 AM
Finally seeing some light at the end of the tunnel for KR 4052.
Quick question. What finish should be on the bellhousing (4-speed)? Were they painted with the engine, installed after, partial overspray?
            Thanks, Pete.

Getting ready to install the windshield in my KR. Can the molding clips be installed after, or do they have to go on before the glass is installed?
       Thanks, Pete.

1968 Shelby GT350/500/500KR / VIN tag rivets.
December 20, 2023, 03:37:32 PM
What style rivets were used for the VIN tag on the dash of a '68? Are they the same as the ones used for the Shelby tag on the inner fender apron?
                 Thanks, Pete.

The Lounge / Snap-on tool identification
December 13, 2023, 10:31:22 AM
Found this Snap-on tool in the trunk of a parts car. Can anyone identify what it is used for? A google search of the part number didn't help. Got me stumped. LOL.

1968 Shelby GT350/500/500KR / Rear axle dilema
November 06, 2023, 08:35:31 AM
Good morning all. I'm a  little confused as to what rear carrier and gear ratio came in my KR.
The door tag shows a '7' axle code which according to the '68 service manual decodes as a 3.25 open differential. However on the Coralsnake webpage it shows axle code '7' as a 3.00 traction-lok. The car is a 4-speed with A/C. The code on the build sheet is 4001M, which according to the chart on Pete's sight is the 3.00 traction-lok.
I thought numerical codes always denoted an open carrier and letter codes were for the traction-lok.
Need some help on this one.
            Thanks, Pete.

The Lounge / '68 W code?
October 25, 2023, 08:34:03 AM
A friend of mine claims to be looking at a '68 Mustang 'W' code 427. I didn't think there was such a thing. I personally know of a W code '68 Cougar, but I'm not sure of the Mustang. Was such a car ever built?

1968 Shelby GT350/500/500KR / Radio speaker
October 12, 2023, 11:05:30 AM
Starting to put the dash together in my KR and I need to replace the speaker for the radio. It was missing when I got the car.
I see there is a listing for A/C or non A/C. Can anyone tell me what the difference is.
My car is an A/C car and I want to make sure I get the right one.
             Thanks, Pete.

1968 Shelby GT350/500/500KR / Sealer
March 28, 2023, 11:41:07 AM
Quick question. Before I put the lower side scoops on, was there any kind of sealer used on the 3 small holes originally intended for the Mustang quarter panel ornaments. Would it be a dab of the same sealer used for the scoop itself?
               Thanks,  Pete.

Hello all. Getting ready to install the original exhaust back on my KR. Mufflers and pipes are very solid, but after over 50 years they obviously have plenty of surface rust.
Looking for ideas/suggestions. Not going the concours route, but want the exhaust to look fresh again. I would like to apply some kind of finish to preserve it. Perhaps a chemical cleaning and a high heat mat clear. Maybe a natural steel paint?
Any past experience or ideas would be very much appreciated.
                                        Thanks, Pete.

Good morning all. Assembling the Cobra Jet for my KR and getting ready to put the exhaust manifolds on. The manifolds have been surfaced and I checked the head surface; it's straight and true. I've had a couple of opinions on gaskets vs no gaskets.
Any opinions? I'm not concerned with being "correct", I just don't want leaks. As you all know it's a bear to remove the manifolds in the car. Some say gaskets, one other said no gaskets, just a thin layer of grease to the manifold surface.
  Hmm... what to do.  :-\

                            Thanks, Pete.

1968 Shelby GT350/500/500KR / Coil spring compressor
January 03, 2023, 01:21:05 PM
Getting ready to put the coil springs in my KR. I have the old 'hook' type unit but was looking at one offered by NPD that bolts in place of the shock. Has anyone used this type of spring compressor, or heard any good/bad feedback.
It sure looks much safer than the old hook type.
I like the fact that it bolts in on both the top and bottom.
              Thanks, Pete.

1968 Shelby GT350/500/500KR / A/C- tilt vacuum canisters
December 09, 2022, 01:35:50 PM
Getting around to the A/C on my KR. Can someone tell me, are the vacuum canisters on the inner fender for the A/C and tilt the same? I have neither and have to replace both of them.
Found some good photos using the search, but no information if they are the same or different.
     Thanks for any help.
                                          Pete.

Hi guys. Need some help with identifying an original A/C under dash vent hose for my KR.
There are some on e-bay, but I'm not sure exactly what to look for. The reproductions look cheap and I would like to locate an original.
Some have a metal strip visible in the ribs and some don't. They also have, for lack of a better term, a 'leathery' look to them. I just don't want to get burned by someone passing off a weathered reproduction as an original.
Does someone have a picture perhaps of an original with the correct ends and length.
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. I did try the search, but didn't have  much luck.

                                     Thanks, Pete.

1968 Shelby GT350/500/500KR / A/C firewall pad
October 18, 2022, 12:00:14 PM
The firewall pad in my KR was missing when I got the car. It's a factory A/C car. Just wondering if someone could recommend a good replacement. I see a few different choices in the aftermarket.
            Thanks, Pete.

Concours Talk / KR fender bolts
February 10, 2022, 12:58:36 PM
Getting ready to install the fenders on my July built KR. Would like to use the correct bolts. I used the search feature and I think I am even more confused. lol. I believe they should be the silver finish, but I had no idea there were different markings to choose from.
I have a box of fasteners that came with the car (it was in pieces when I got it ). I want to clean up and use the originals, but I'm not sure which ones to use.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
                            Thanks, Pete.

1968 Shelby GT350/500/500KR / Fender help
January 24, 2022, 09:07:24 AM
Starting to assemble 04052 and was wondering if anyone can tell me what these 2 phillips screws are for in the front of the fender. The car was in pieces when I got it.
                                        Thanks, Pete.
