So a friend of mine says the seal spacer (sleave) should be positioned closer to the tapered Edge where the seal rides. I say it should be closer to the center of where the seal rides to get maximum seal effect. Who is right or are we both wrong and the position is somewhere else? His 1970 shop manual seems to have no mention of the seal spacer at all.

I was putting a transmission in my friend's 70 Boss 302 today (going from a close ratio transmission to a wide ratio transmission) and I couldn't help but notice it's obviously green undercarriage instead of the usual red oxide primer you would normally see. This is an unrestored undercarriage and it is clearly all the original paint under there. This car has a mid January build date from Dearborn. Are there any other 70 Boss 302s in this time frame with this unusual green undercarriage paint? It's kind of like lime gold metallic without the metallic. Just for reference, some years back I worked on someone's 73 Mustang convertible that was light blue that also had this green paint on the undercarriage and this car was light blue and had 19,000 original miles on it.

Are parts available to convert a short tail wide ratio small input/small output top loader into a big input/big output top loader so it can be installed behind a 428 Cobra Jet? The 2.78 first gear would definitely be in advantage in my application (4250 pounds with me in it station wagon with 3.50 gears) and I can keep my present clutch and drive shaft yoke. I have plenty of small in small out top-loaders laying around.

Saw it online. Not my car. Looks a little dark for Acapulco Blue or it just might be the way the light is hitting it in the photos.

The Lounge / Is an FE a Big Block?
January 02, 2024, 06:51:21 AM
People can start an argument over anything. A while back, I posted a comment on a U Tube video about a car being "an honest to goodness real 427 Big Block Cobra". Someone chimed in and said an FE is not a big block because (his exact statement copied and pasted) "technically it's not but if it makes you feel better the FE is a big block happy now 1958 Chevy 348 bore spacing 4.840 1958 Chrysler 350 bore spacing 4.800 1958 ford MEL 383 bore spacing 4.900 1958 Ford FE 332 bore spacing 4.630 sorry but the MEL was fords big block in 1958 1968 the FF was fords bb I've  ask before I'll ask again show me 1 FORD add calling an FE a bb Mercury called an FE a big scorching 428 but not a bb . A big block technically must have a bore spacing of 4.800 or greater but call it what you want a lot of people call an engine with a blower super charged  but they're also technically wrong" He also claimed to work in a machine shop for 30 years. Someone else said he was wrong, and they went back and forth.
Do you think he is right or wrong? I personally consider an FE a Big Block.

Recently, a friend of mine came across this photo on a Facebook page taken around 1969 of what looks like my car at the long-closed New York National Speedway in Center Moriches New York (it is a neighborhood now). There is a really good chance that this is my car. The way I figure, the original owner of my car lived in Riverdale in the Bronx and told me he used to race it at tracks around the area including National. There were only 142 Acapulco blue Fastback Mustang Cobra Jets built. 49 Acapulco blue with blue standard interior. My car originally had a white stripe and Argent styled steel wheels. This car has the white stripe and the Argent Wheels on the front. Hard to tell the color of the interior. But these cars weren't exactly common, and you can't miss that Cobra Jet hood scoop on it so I'm thinking there's a really good chance that this is my car. Anyone else find photos like this on the internet that you think are of your car?

Did 69/70 GT350s get "N" case rear ends with 31 spline axles?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3O-Irr6Dog      I don't think it's real because I don't see a Shelby tag under the hood and it has a standard mustang interior but it's still cool!

Does anyone know the date on this oil filter? The box it came in has an 11/67 date on it. Thanks in advance.

The show Car and Track with Bud Lindemann featured a 68 GT500KR road test. Its on YouTube. Is there any idea of which car this is? Its Acapulco blue with saddle int. Auto, tilt away, wheel covers, no AC. It burns both tires in the acceleration runs so it must have a traction lock rear end. It does cook the R/R tire on the road course though. Maybe this was covered before but I couldn't find it on a search.

I just saw an article on the fastest cars of each decade. It claims the Miura could go 175mph. Being the P400 was made from 1966 to 1969 and had 350 horsepower and a weight of around 2600 pounds, could it really go that fast? And wasn't a 427 powered Cobra or an SC just as fast? if not faster. If I recall from the book Shelby's wildlife, the race cars could top 190mph.

Have there been reports of early dated (January or February '67) C7OF-F distributors being installed in any KRs? It seems there have been reports of some 68 1/2 Cobra Jet Mustangs and Cougars and possibly Torinos and Cyclones coming with these Distributors from the factory.
