Did they use the 302 Tunnel port or regular 302?

The tach was made for competition use (more reliable?) and was made by a different company

Did the later R models and next years T/A cars use the white or orange needles, if they used white and street cars used orange it just seems strange unless they did not make the other gauges in orange except the oil pressure and they wanted all to match, just always wondered about that.

1965 GT350/R-Model / R model guages

Does anyone know why the R models and I guess the 66 trans Am coupes had white needles on the tach and other instrument's instead of orange colored like the street cars? It seems that the orange ones would be easier to scan during a race.

Lets see if it will post right side up

I used the lightweight Cobra racing cup holder that folds flat when not in use (actually from a C-141B aircraft) in my replica R-model

1966 Shelby GT350/GT350H / Re: Hertz Speedmeter lock

My 66 # 1869 had one one it when I bought the car in 1976. The car was partially disassembled and the instrument cluster was in a box with other parts with the lock installed. I was able to finally remove the lock and cable and must have disposed of it as I did not know the car was a Hertz as it was white with blue stripes and I did not find out the cars history until a few years later.

I think this is my old car #1857 which did have outboard lights, the owner I sold it to in 1977 passed away a few years ago and I don't know who it went to.

On my GT 500 #1857 which i sold to the third owner back in 1977, the shift knob for the 4 speed was wood and had a small emblem similar to the steering wheel emblem but smaller, i used to think it was factory but never saw another like it, the knob had broken before I sold the car but I saved the emblem.

This guy needs to step away from the crack pipe! Shelby not H/M, won more Sports car races than H/M, not to say H/M wasn't a great company but did not accomplish what Shelby American did.

I was hoping deep down inside that it may be true and join the Bullitt mustangs, Little Red and the Green Hornet at National car shows. Maybe it was owned by Jim Morrison and is stored with his hidden 67. Oh wait he was already gone by 1978.

Thanks for the info, i figured as much. That story although detailed somewhat was no better that the experts i used to run into at car shows, way too ridiculous to be based in fact.

I have heard of various ultra rare cars of most types (Ranchero, or various other Ford cars) from people at car shows whose brother or uncle had "connections with Shelby" and were able to get their cars modified on the assembly line at Shelby American and there fore they were legit Shelby cars. All ridiculous for hundreds of reasons but I was just looking at an old Jan. 1986 issue of The Ford Enthusiast magazine and an article says that there was indeed a 1978 Ranchero Shelby GT that was made on the Southfield Michigan Shelby Automotive facility (surely it was not operational eight years after production of Shelbys ended). The article goes on to show a not very good picture of a window sticker and various door tags and description of the vehicle and how Ford pushed this through for their 75th anniversary celebration. This car was owned by a Ranchero club member. This is too bizarre for belief but has any one ever heard of this one way or another?
