Up For Auction / Re: 1966 GT350 Steel Hood auction
« on: September 14, 2023, 05:33:25 PM »
I've always heard that Shelby didn't always make the cars the same. On 6S1431 that I've owned since 1971 and still friends with the guy I bought it from and he bought it when it came off rental service in late 66, early 67 (Dec/Jan). The original hood I replaced with the intention of having it redone (has some rust through on the front edge of the frame. The sheet metal date code on the back edge seems to match most of the other parts on the car or close to it. No records appear to be around that says it was in an accident during rental service and the original owner never changed it. The hood pins are clocked at 12,3,6,and 9.  Now was this ever changed sometime before it came out of rental service? I can't say for sure, but nothing seems to indicate it was changed.
The car also has one Ray Brown and one Impact seat belt, it also has solid, not open letter valve covers even though several "experts" over the years have told me they must have been changed. I always respect the thoughts and opinions of folks on the forum who are a wealth of knowledge, especially folks like Bob Gaines, Pete Disher, Jeff Speegle, Charles Turner and many others. Maybe my car was a mistake, or an anomaly
Any thought? Inquiring minds would like to know

Very upsetting Steve - I assume this is the garment bag that belonged to my father-in-law?

I am not aware of any other Hertz bag in circulation like this one - plus the patina is unique to this "White House Press Corp" bag if there IS more than one.

An any case, someone has to have seen it - unless whoever took it only takes it out and enjoys it alone, behind locked doors and drawn curtains.

So come on - you can't show or display it so return it.

Yes. it's that suit bag. I hope who ever took it feels the need to return it no questions asked. If it comes up for sale, then it might be a different outcome. I hope they put their Big Boy (or Big Girl) pants on and returns it.They can contact me through the Forum

Last year I had my car on loan to the Mustang Owners Museum. While there someone apparently “borrowed” or perhaps to be more correct , stole this item from under the back seat. It’s a Hertz suit bag but not just any old Hertz unit bag but one from the White House Press Corp. I’m hoping that whoever took it will take it upon themselves to return it with no questions asked. If they try and sell it just know you are buying a stolen object. It disappeared between approx Feb- May 2022. They also took a segmented rear brake shoe
Looking for any leads

Attached is a picture of the suit bag
Is your date right or should that be 2023?

Dates are correct

I was going to bring our 68 1/2 Mustang Cobra Jet but the pickup trucks overdrive failed so we drove our 68 Torino four-door the 430 mile trip there. Lots of nice cars there and good people. And hearing Pete Brock speak about his time at Shelby American at the Friday night dinner was a privilege. And getting to drive five Laps on the parade lap Friday was a nice surprise.

The Torino was awesome, loved the color and cloth interior. Bought back a lot of memories of working in the dealer back then. ( has it really been 55 years? ONG, I’m getting old)

there were about 10 cars in the picture, saw several other Hertz cars but some had left and others couldn't find the owners
There were about 120 + registered for the Popular Car Show
one of the larger amount of earlier cars (65-70) that I've seen recently
Seeing and talking to Peter Brock was treat, he also signed everything put in front of him by people. Chuck Cantwell was being driven around in a golf cart by his son and daughter. A big surprise to many was Arron Shelby walking around handing out 100 Year Centennial Carroll Shelby Pins, what a great guy. Howard Pardee was running the track program and I heard great things about that. Tons of Shelby cars were there, Gary Patterson was spotted running around. The weather was warn but not oppressively hot and no rain. At the merchandise tent Jay Talbot and his team on minions had all kinds of neat stuff for sale. If you ever needed some literature, registries, old Shelby American's, shirts, hats, posters, etc. they had it all at bargain prices. They was gathering of the Hawaiian Shirt wearers

Also, apologies to folks who said "Hello" and I didn't recognize you, I am terrible with names. I guess that part of getting old
