Regional Shows and Events / Syracuse Nationals
July 23, 2018, 08:57:43 AM
Just got back from the Syracuse Nationals. It is a giant car show, over 8,000 cars. Not the kind of show where a Shelby stands out, but a fantastic show for car nut. Didn't take my car, took my friend supercharged Hemi 67 Barracuda Fastback. We had an issue with the electric cooling fans (relay went bad) and parked it next to the Factory Five Display. They let us stay there the whole time and were great folks, they had several of their products on display, including a completed Cobra chassis. They also had a customers Cobra (yeah I know they can't call them a Cobra)  with a nitrous powered small block, said with all nitrous in it was over 1100 horsepower. Saw and took some pictures of a few real Shelby's and will try. and post them later today. Planning on going back next year and take my car. Real laid back kind of atmosphere but tons of stuff to see and do. Anyone else's been there? Is there a Shelby spot?

Since I "retired" I have been really enjoying going to local and some non local shows. I would to visit a few more shows, cruises, get together, whatever somewhere along the east coast or maybe eastern Ohio, Kentucky, etc.
I've seen Florida Tony post a lost, but that just a  little too far. I am planning on a GT350 run in Oct this year, plus Chicago in Nov, but right now August and September are looking open. Anything in Virginia or the Carolina's? New Jersey or Long Island? I already have Lehigh Valley penciled in.
I'm not getting any younger and I want to get in as many as I can until I can't. Looking for suggestions, doesn't have to be all Shelby (even though that would be nice) but just want a chance to drive and see the country and see nice cars and meet great people. Would like them to within a 300 mile one way drive of DC.

Regional Shows and Events / 4th of July
June 30, 2018, 11:50:26 AM
Nothing is better than fireworks on the 4th. Again this year the local Mustang Club is in the National 4Th of July Parade in DC and once again I'll be taking my 66 GT350H down there, yea, it's hot, and yes the car will probably run hot towards the end of the parade, but the crowd seems to love the cars and it's great to celebrate the 4th in the Nations Capital (my home town  ???::)
Happy 4th everybody

Since I have gone back to work at my old company 20 hours a week from home I get a chance to look at the window and see the outside. It's a beautiful day, a little warm perhaps, with a few overhead clouds and a light breeze. Since I can pick my hours to work, I pick not to work today and take the car for a ride. I going to follow the "old road" that twists and turns down through the county I live in to the end, it's about 60 miles to the end. I may come back on the new road, but it's just too nice a day to work, and I hear the roads calling me to enjoy the day

1966 Shelby GT350/GT350H / Goodyear Blue Streaks
May 14, 2018, 05:53:52 PM
Okay, I've got my 5 original magnums redone ( thanks to Jim Cowles  :) ) and am saving up for a set of the Goodyear Blue Streaks from Universal Tires in Hershey Pa.
Has anyone every used them? Any insight would be helpful as they are a little pricey, but I will now have the 5 original wheels and a set of OEM Center Caps, a set of the Red Hertz Decals and the original 20 lug nuts. I will use these only for certain shows as I hear the wear on these tires leaves something to be desired ( I hear 5,000-7,000 and they are gone)
Has anyone used these tires? Any tips on storing them? Any tips on Installing them as they go on from the back side if I remember correctly (14" safety rim) . Should I search for a set of clip-on Goodyear type wheels weights or leave the weight off, or "hid" some stick on weights inside the riim.
By the way, the rims look great.

The Lounge / Temporary headrests
May 06, 2018, 09:51:31 PM
Alright I've convinced the wife to ride on a pretty long (1,000 mile plus trip) she insists that she need a headrest. I am looking for some kind on temporary headrest that can be either a cushion/headrest combination or some kind on slip on headrest. She says her father had one in the 60s.

Any suggestions? Don't want to drill, cut holes or modify the stock seats.
It's for a 66 GT350 with stock seats

1966 Shelby GT350/GT350H / Wheels are back!!!!!!!!
April 05, 2018, 12:11:25 PM
I gave my 5 original Magnum 500 wheels to Jim Cowles at SAAC 42 and just got them back a few weeks ago. They look so much better than I had hoped and I cant wait until I can get some of the those original style Goodyear Blue Streaks to put on them for "show purposes" only.
Has anyone gotten any recently from Universal Tires or any other supplier? Any suggestions on mounting them. I know they go on "backwards" because of the "safety style" reverse rim. I will be using a tire machine from an Audi Dealer as they have the real high end machine that doesn't touch the wheel when installing the tire. Has anyone used one of these with the old style wheels and tires?
Will have way too much money involved with these to mess it up

After 52 years and 235,000 miles the differential had started making a little noise, not terrible budget busting noise, just "I'm tired and need an overhaul" type of noise
The bearings and races all looked pretty good, the ring and pinion looked almost like new, but here is the most worn part, the center pin for pinion and side gears.
It has worn down about a 1/32 - 1/16 of an inch. This could explain the "chuckle type" noise I was hearing when slowing down
I also noticed the little "oil slinger" type pump on the carrier housing. I had never seen one before
Is it unique to mid 60's 9 inch Ford?
Parts will be here this week and hopefully back on the road on Saturday or Sunday

Concours Talk / Repairing “chrome” plastic parts
March 19, 2018, 03:21:34 PM
Has anyone ever used one of the vendors that repair and rechrome plastic parts?
I have about 11 magnum 500 center caps that I would like to get redone. All are scratched, chrome is worn off and most are missing a pin or two that holds then to the wheel
Any suggestions?  I know I can get repos but I am slowly sliding down that rabbit hole of NOS stupidity

Wanted to Buy / 66 interior quarter window trim
February 08, 2018, 07:01:29 AM
In the old forum somebody had some info on the quarter window interior trim pieces. Every reproduction piece I've tried are either the wrong grain/texture and don't fit worth a darn.
Allegedly someone in California is making almost "perfect" reproduction ones
Anyone know his name ?

The local Mustang club has had a display at the New Car Show in DC the last few years and this year is no exception. With over 5,000 square feet it will have quite big presence
It will have my GT350H owned since 1971,Kevin Cauly's Blue GT350 owned since 1969, Emory Harrigan's freshly restored White 1967 GT500, a 67 GT500 "restomod", two 2007 GT500's, a 2016 and 2017 GT350. Almost half the cars displayed will be Shelby's
If you are in the area from Jan 24-Feb 4 stop in and see the cars at the DC Convention Center
