Guess who had to pay the shipping both ways?

Now, I'm gonna cause trouble!  But why has it in the eye of the consumer, become the vendors' responsibility for freighting costs when the customer is the one who chose to do business in such a way?  If you drive up to the brick & mortar store, upon entering, do you present your calculated fuel and amortization costs for your vehicle and time to the cashier for a refund?   ???   And, I know the answer: "that's why I shop on the internet!  ::)

     REMEMBER!: NOTHIN'S FREE!   ;)

So, since you, Joe Customer, has price-shopped the item of your desire, 'to death', found the cheapest source (on-line :(), put the American Manufacturers & the Brick & Mortar stores out of business, of coarse with "FREE FREIGHT" (I didn't know UPS & FED-EX worked for free?  ::) ), then when or if an issue develops (particularly if not the fault of the vendor whom you only left pennies on the table for.  :o ), what do you expect!  If you went to the same dinner to eat, always bought the "Special" and never left a tip, what kind of response would you expect when you asked for extra gravy on the mashed potatoes?   ::)

     REMEMBER!: IT'S A TWO-WAY STREET!   ;)

............Boeing turbine powered 55 T-Bird...

Gee, a similar to that exhaust plumbing effort would make my GAA engine conversion in my '55 T-Bird easier; but even without an engineering degree I figured that such would be............. 'undesirable'!    ::)

I don't believe that is a spin-on engine oil filter canister, rather I believe it to be a canister made of aluminum, showing aluminum welding for the bung in the end and an aluminum mounting plate attached, this which I'd venture for being maybe the AC receiver/drier on the H.P. side considering its' size, but instead could be the filter/accumulator on the L.P. side but I think it might be to small for this?   :-\

But then, I'm not an AC guy, so what do I know?   ::)

Other then that the 69 351W head ..............

Note that the C9OE and then the D0OE casting made into 1974 are as far as the subject here are the same.   ;)

My mom fell in love with the Mercedes 190SL's and in the early '70's decided to buy one.  Unfortunately, upon my disassembly and sending it out for stripping, what came back sent us out looking for another car!    :o

With that experience, not to mention the making of observations of the follies of others  ::),  I would be afraid that this cars' body, if with a restoration effort was returned from the stripper, there might remain less than that hoped for.  Or at least paid for!    :'(

SAAC Forum Discussion Area / Re: 5 bolt 289

I don't think these days I would want to have to come up with a decent core 5-bolt 289 currently at standard bore, in short notice that's for sure!   :o  If one 'needs' one (obviously it's not a numbers matching concern here, but still  ::) ), I would just make the deal, as long as he's not nuts with the asking price.   :)

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / Re: Valve seat replacement
April 21, 2022, 12:46:02 PM
Quote from: Jakobs67gt500 on April 21, 2022, 06:29:20 AM
The repair shop said I could face issues, as one valve is hot and the other cold, and it could create tension.

This is often a problem even without the seat inserts!   ::)

Some of the advantage to the seat inserts (perhaps beyond the original purpose of a repair) is that they present a superior more resilient material replacing a sum of the surface casting material otherwise subjected to the greatest distortion load in the material movement due to temperature fluctuations and differentials in distance; which ultimately leads to fatigue stresses and failure.   :o

Some of the disadvantage is that the removal of the parent casting material isn't going to make this casting any stronger (as most of these castings relevant were not designed or cast with the intention of such  ;) ), and the the seat inserts are an interference fitment, pressed-in, thereby applying a spreading force, to a weakened area do to the material removal, in an area which already displays a tendency for failure!   :-\

But, properly executed, a good casting candidate, reasonable operational parameters, including realizing that most of these vintage vehicles aren't going to be subjected to such great usage, this may prove quite an acceptable repair; or perhaps as better terminology...........a 'salvage operation'.   :)

No, but I did manage to separate a cylinder head from the jug!   :o

But one must understand that these airboat installations are a terrible environment for these aircraft engines.

Sharpening stones are much finer than sandpaper and will not remove much material.

Yes some are, but they are also available (and I frequently use  8) ) in many different grit sizes and materials to adjust cutting rates and effectiveness on different materials to be dressed.    ;)

     Scott.

I would use a flat 'honing' or 'sharpening stone' for at least the initial surface reduction, stepping to finer grits, utilizing sandpaper, on a hard backing, only as the final process, if required, to acquire the finish desired.  The reasoning for this is that the stone will permit a faster and more even sum of stock removal this resulting in a more level surface and sharper, squarer edge definitions.   :)

As this generally presenting more like a machine manufacturing execution rather than a hand one.    :o
