Thought the Ford 289 hi po option was 271 HP, but Shelby took that engine to 306 HP +/-. Then again at 74 memory is slipping!

While the chalk appears to be csx2186, that could possibly be csx2196 aka flip top that first had a 390 engine. Thought the first attempt to put a big block into a a csx2000 series by Ken Miles was csx2196 then later in a Daytona coupe. Then again am getting more senile each day!

Am a little confused Ned. Know my first Cobra (still can't find) had a Radio between the dash braces. The radio had a front plate that rapped around the braces, think the radio was a Motorola.Thought that was an option as the bracket fit was made to fit the around the dash braces. The recessed antenna was on the driver side rear, accessed thru the trunk. While I wasn't the first owner it really was a waste since really couldn't hear it! Put an 8 track tape in the glove box of the second Cobra, another waste!

Also, believe the Al wheels are after market as there seems to be no slight taper on the spokes.

We have a lot in common! I left my Cobra on the street in front of S&C Ford and it was stolen. Got the car back with the shift knob but not the Weber's. Sold that car in 1968 for $4000 to buy my first home in Lake Tahoe. That was CSX2192. In 1968 $4000 was a lot of money!

I have had my Rolex Submariner serviced in SF. It was done my an authorized Rolex Service Center in the Shrive Bldg. on Post St. but not by Shrive & Co. Was on the second or third floor.

Thanks for refreshing my old memory. Was not Mandela, but Mondello Heads! Memory has slipped a lot since 1967!

In 1967 I purchased CSX2192. Was told that it had been raced, but was young it wasn't important.
Knew the car was quick, but my previous Cobra was also. The car had Weber's. Was told that the Weber man in the Bay Area was Steve Griswold in Berkley. When I took the car to him learned a lot.
He was a previous sponsor of the car and it was a stage 3 set up plus...The cam was a Sullivan ground, heads were Mandela with large intake valves and Ballanger headers. At the time that ment nothing...! Years went on sold the car. Then about 30 plus years later was going thru '97 Registry and noticed info on a Cobra with black California plate XAW684. That sounded familiar.Yep, my old car.
That car is now Vintaged raced by John Goodman Racing. He now has all the pictures I had from back when. Still has the plate XAW684. Goat love the Registry!

What CSX number is this? That's easy! Just find one with door handles! Opps, there isn't one!

Rich Mason who owned both of those cars was really a Corvette guy. He actually traded a Vintage Gulf Corvette for the The Dragon Snake...CSX2427. He also had a rare Corvette SR2. He believed they should all be driven.
Back in 1966 I bought my first Cobra which I still can't find. Traded that for a new '67 GT 500 (0962), that just didn't cut it so then bought CSX2192. Sold both in 1968 to by my first home in Lake Tahoe. Back then they weren't of much value. After years went by and kids growing up got back to the "hobby". Since then have had a few more...'67 GT500 0195, '69 GT350 0184, and '66 GT350 6S2055 track car. Like most of the "gray group" time came to downsize. Interesting that at 74 I can't remember what day it may be, but do remember vin #s of past Shelby's along with the good times and lifelong friends.

It was a scary car, and yes it was a hand full. To make it even more "puckering" was doing an open track session at Thunderhill! Nothing is more stressful than driving your friends $2m car going into turn 5! I definitely used a point by anytime someone wanted to "push". CSX 2427 was more enjoyable and even though it was a Dragon Snake it did handle well (for a Cobra) and the Weber's came alive about 2300!

That's CSX2427...drove that at Thunderhill!
