Randy,

I have added 6S240 as receiving California plate UAM692. According to the Registry other 1966 cars received the U series plates.

I cannot see any reason that DMV would have replaced the plates from 1966 to 1972.

Unless some additional information comes along, I assume the plate to be the first issued to that car.

People/owners just need to realize that often the reason for these sequences of letters relate to a car sitting or being used for some purpose that delayed them receiving the plates until. This is often indicated in the registry

Had an offer to post pics for me so I'll forward those tonight, to further stir the pot on the Doug's vs. Belanger debate....

Mark

Thought side by side would be a nice way to show them :)

Do I have it backwards?  The 65 Fastbacks have the latch with bumper and large hole in cover and the 66 latch has no bumper and small hole?

Haven't studied it in great lengths. The no bumper smaller side hole version appears to have been used for a short period of time (remember there were differences in the latch receiver on the fold down also) but the majority of 66's look like the 65's I posted.

More 66 Examples - Couple of different plants and production periods

Quote from: 6s1640 on April 19, 2018, 12:48:25 AMIt also look like the fold down "stop" bracket or recess plates are different between the two years.

Yes that is a difference between the production years for Mustangs

I believe all 65 Mustang fastbacks had a rear seat latch with no bumper and smaller hole in latch cover.  I.........................

Cory here are a half dozen 65 examples from unrestored cars as far back as Aug 64 production

August 64

Sept 64

Have dozens of more examples

Believe you were expecting an example like the one below from 6T09K1445xx a Nov 66 (approx)  built car

I have a pic of 6S2268, original owner car (per the placard) and CA plate shows UAL 854.    .....

Yes that Bill's car and he is the original owner of that red no stripe Paxton car.

John,  DO yourself a favor and build a stand to hold your entire front end assy.  IF you don't you will have a hard time duplicating how factory painted the front.    I do mine now all on cart and assemble almost everything on front and then slide it on..

chris

Great suggestion Chris. When you design the rack watch for the unintended shadows some designs can produce on the bottom of the fenders :(
The one below is designed to attach to the fender lip like the original one shown above for that reason though we did not build in the hood lift mechanismlike the original ::)

Here is one example

THANKS Jeff,

#0803 is another GT500, but as we see here it has a vertical/straight grille. It won the chairman's award at SAAC 32 in UT.
I've added it to the list in post #1. The time frame in production is starting to spread out wider than I expected.

Don't know that it "spreads out" the time line since the cars were not completed in sequential (at Shelby) order. Don't fall into that trap without taking into consideration other events and facts

There have been mention of some cars being started but not completed which could lead to false positive assumptions. Just treading lightly ;)

One last question---since front fenders were painted separately, I understand that paint job on outside of fender will match quality on the rest of the body, how about on inside of fenders

Back side would have body color in logical locations based on the angle and areas that were painted on the outer surfaces (things like wheel lip, rear edge that would face the interior when door was open)

The rest would be unfinished fender and front end material, painted fender edge plate/trim, inner mounting brackets and the black epoxy used to hold those to the fender and the panels to one another. Believe there are at least a couple of prior threads showing these areas and finish of the front wheel wells - front end surfaces. There would also be black paint and overspray from that application to the back side of the front valance for most of the production year

Sorry no pictures of the back side or stripped down. 67 #803 seen at a national a few years back

That is big bucks for an under hood lacking MANY correct parts. I'll pass.

Just the presence of two service decals under the hood would make many question the level of choices and correctness elsewhere

Do you think the hono-drives or GV's will hold up to the torque if I take it on the track occasionally?

Not sure that it's the torque or the shock from that sort of usage.  The one I have came out of a 1 ton or larger Ford truck.

Ran a F350 7.3 diesel for 250K with a Gear Vendor. Never a problem in those towing or pulling conditions

Can't say I've ever heard or seen one with the internals destroyed but as mentioned not allot of them around to have allot of experiences or stories about this use.

Jeff,

Was 6S1203 originally blue? I have it listed in my records as white, have I got it wrong?

Dennis

Yes 6S1203 was originally blue - built in the middle of a Hertz  order so automatic with chrome magnums rather than the painted.

I may have posted pictures of the car long time ago as it came home. Had been pearl white since 71 for sure - possibly 69 or 70 by the guy before us.  Owner use to hang around the street racing group I was part of around that time. Bought the car off him about 10 years later after he put it in storage in the 70's

Thanks for sharing. First time I've seen the car or pictures of the wife's sister car 6S1203. Almost exactly the same car as far as options except for the wheel choice.
