Not all factory VIN's were stamped on the block in 1969, some had them had partial, rough, hand stamped VIN's into the back of the drivers side head.

Been a rocky year, first my personal interaction with Covid, then the loss of family, and friends, both in and out of the automotive community. Took the wind right out of my sails for anything car related. Finally got a chance to look inward, and found my motivation to get back out to the garage for a little "me time", clear my head so to speak by getting my hands dirty again....Been a long time....So with that said, just wanted to give a shout out to all those who assisted me, both on and offline, when my rebuilt carb install did not quite go as planned recently. This is what the forum is all about, people helping people, as if we really were family.  "The Pumpkin" is back on the road and running great, took it for a spin down RT85 and to the house via some twisty back roads to test everything out. Need to tweak the cold idle a little more, but other than that, the car is purring along as it should.

Once again, thank you, you know who you are.

   Doug ,
Speak for yourself! My '66 runs 11.5s with an all iron 331 that is well within the guide lines of what I have laid out. A slightly warmed over  '68 KR with a 4.30 gear and a 10" slick would be in the 12s with EASE.
This deal is not for the "easy chair" racer. Careful scrutiny of the guide lines could produce 600 hp engines. THAT will propel a car into the 11s easily. I've left some serious loop holes in on purpose.

So, you want to race, and you are already bringing the built ringer to the track. Tested, tuned, and ready for more, with perhaps some details left out of what you did with the drivetrain and chassis this winter......Now I see where you are going with this thread  ;)

Sounds like fun either way you go......I do suspect a deeper financial pocket will be required in order to win though, and to me, it's not about the money spent, but about the amount of fun had while at the track with like minded friends.

U need 2 black top photo gaskets  not the mr gaskets type

Two on the bottom and one on the top of the spacer between the spacer and the carb?
Or like I have now, one at the bottom between the spacer and the intake, and one between the spacer and the carb?

Thanks in advance,

Bill

Check the spacer. The reproduction for my 68 was not flat. I used a large flat file to get it flat. Mike

Sand paper on a pane of glass is also a good way to get flat surfaces.  :)

Checked on a the glass table in the house, SWMBO was not amused  ;)

1969-1970 Shelby GT350/500 / Carb spacer installation

Starting my carb reinstallation, have the Felpro installed above and below the spacer now and have a wonderful vacuum leak (high pitched whine). Thinking my custom cut MrGasket picture below might alleviate the vacuum leak. All to be installed dry I assume as that is what I am used to. Or is there a proper part number I have yet to stumble across that will work without custom cutting?

Yup. This is old news with Shelby. The Cobra form was deeming, "in the public domain" somewhere back in the '70s when "replicas" started showing up.

Ford was somewhat successful in licensing many of their trademarks and then Shelby followed that with licensing his name, but the Cobra was a done deal.

Part of the issue with Shelby and the Cobra, also had to do with the fact that Shelby used an existing chassis and body for the basis of his car. The AC ACE body and the Cobra body were too close to one another at the start, as such, the court ruled that it was part of the reason why the trade dress was denied in a wholesale fashion.

It's been tried, SAI lost the trade dress issue

Appeals / Re: Marti Report v. Dealer Invoice

Looking at a '71 Boss that is equipped with ac & power windows.  Both look bone stock original and the dash is not chopped.  The Marti does not list either item as being ordered with the car.  What are the chances the dealer invoice would be different to reflect those 2 options.  Or, are Marti's reliable in that respect.

Can't say I've ever seen a 71 Boss 351 with factory AC

Is the engine code an "R" ?
