I am starting to do some work on my 1969 Shelby convertible and would like to see some pictures of the sheet metal in the trunk area in front of the gas tank opening (toward the front of the car). My car has some holes that I think are not original. Would like to make sure before eliminating them.
Thanks for any help (pictures) you can provide.

Gene Painter is alive and well. His son took over the door panel business after he did not want to do them anymore.

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / Re: 1967 starter details
January 06, 2021, 09:31:34 PM
Just for clarification, the car being discussed, #1376, was completed at Ford on March 02, 1967. I believe that is still in the ink-stamped period, although at the end. This would have been before the die-stamped starters became the prominent assembly line part. I believe an ink-stamped starter was original on this car (it may still be with the parts that came off at tear-down).
The April 12, 1967 date mentioned above is the SA completion date.

Bob,
Thanks for the additional information and clarification on this point. I am going to have to find a "good" antenna for my car when I start working on it one of these days. Over the years I have heard about the brown bag or envelope with those part numbers on it. I had always had the impression it was an assembly line part that came in the trunk but did not get installed.

In Response #3 there are pictures of an antenna, one which shows a brown paper bag with a C9ZZ and SM9 part number. In Response #9 there is a statement by Mr. Gaines: "owner would use whatever was available because one exactly like the original was not available through Ford. The picture I posted with the C9ZZ on the bag was one of the whatever examples".

In Ed's post he mentioned the 69/70 Shelby antenna was not serviced by Ford so I am confused by the brown bag "I assume" the pictured antenna came in. Did this bag come from the subcontractor to Ford and at some point were a few of these available from the original manufacturer? Does the paper bag and the antenna shown NOT go together but are two pieces of information? The pictured antenna does not appear to have the screw-in connection on the staff for the coax cable but otherwise looks very much like an original antenna. Can some additional information be provided?
Thank you for your time.

The Cobra Automotive set is closer in likeness to the 67 Shelby hood pins and lanyards

Dave,
Gene Painter repairs your original door panels. If the backing board is still good and only the vinyl torn they come out really nice. He has been doing these style door panels for years. There was a period of time that people thought he was "out-of-business" but I have talked with him and had panels repaired in the last two year.

I am looking for a correct lower grille for a inboard light car and correct hood hinges for same car. March 67 Ford build, and April SAI completion.
Thanks for your help

Concours Talk / Re: Color Change on Judged concours
March 21, 2019, 07:57:05 PM
This is a good place for me to jump in and say I really appreciate all the volunteers who help make the SAAC annual conventions possible. I do not get to attend every year but have attended numerous times. I have always gotten a great deal of enjoyment from these from these events. Since I have a strong passion for these special 1960's era cars that SAAC helps create a common platform for "US" to enjoy the cars with facts and opinions alike and present our own personal interpretations without undo ridicule.
Some people like the challenge of reaching a high level of restoration of these cars and then obtaining an objective measure of their efforts. It requires a lot of effort, time and money to get the car ready and additional effort to find out the "ins & outs" of attending shows and having their car judged. This is a choice and for those people it is a sign of their passion for their car. On the other hand, the volunteers required to organize the show, establish guidelines to judge by, work with car owners, the public, Sunday morning and Monday morning quarterbacks and 50 other things that unexpectedly happen during a show event get their satisfaction by providing a service to others and seeing really nice cars up close and personal. It is a thankless job that I want to express my sincere appreciation for. Just the opportunity to have people that are "the known experts" on our cars offer their services is outstanding and not found in many other situations. All judges and Volunteers I THANK YOU WITH THE UPMOST PREJUDICE.
Everyone can enjoy our Club, the cars and fellowship of other owners. Everyone does not have to have a concours level car. Everyone has the opportunity to personalize their car as they see fit and still be fully accepted within our community. However, it takes individuals willing to give their time and effort to have a club and have events we can all enjoy. I encourage everyone to remember that fact when we share with each other.

I would like to jump in and ask the stupid question. Are these invoice copies available from some source today or is this documentation you got from the previous owner? I am sure this has been asked/answered before but I could find the information. I have previously gotten documents from Dave for one of my cars but do not remember the invoice being available. Thanks for your time.

Concours Talk / Re: concours corrections
January 23, 2018, 08:04:18 PM
I would like to share some comments related to this topic. This past year I had the opportunity to show my car in the SAAC Conv. concours class. I also showed the car at some other venues where it was judged by SAAC Judges. In all cases the Judges did a great job of coming around the car before the judging period and answering questions I had. During the judging they were extremely helpful in explaining details they observed about the car allowing me to make notes during the process. There were several cases where I was able to have some conversation after the judging on specific points or to clear up discussion points where I was not clear on "how" to correct a noted condition. These were not chances to fix things at the time but went a long way in allowing me to improve my car before the next show event. During the course of the year I had a sizable list of things that I was able to correct to improve my car and ended up with a much better car by the end of the show season. I am particularly grateful that these judges were willing to share their time and knowledge to help me when in all cases they had a "full" day of work judging all the cars in the shows. I would strongly suggest "listening" and taking good notes during a show event as opposed to trying to "fix" things at the last minute or debating individual points that come up during the process. From my experience: I thought I had a pretty good level of knowledge about the car category I was showing in but by the end of the season I understood I had moved from "novice" to "somewhat knowledge" about that particular car class. It is difficult and not for everyone but I do not know of another way to learn that level of detail without going through the process of showing a car at that level.
Again, I would like to say thank you to the individuals that volunteer to judge our cars and specifically the different judges that help me with my car this past season.
