GT40 - Original/Mk V / Re: C8FE block

the C8's XE predecessor which I've see were similar save for the freeze plugs-see attached.
Boss powered GT-40s, in period?

Build the car to the standard you prefer and enjoy the ownership experience. It's easy to be influenced by bulletin board postings (inclusive!).
I am the second owner of my car. I have an entire shelf of original parts which, for me, have been adjudged to be inferior. I guess they'll 'go w the car' if I were ever to sell.
Sounds like you're in for a good time.

We're finally here.
Most all of the original owners, and the wrench-turning owner/racers of the 60s/70s, with their first-person accounts are dead.
Meticulously over-restored pieces of jewelry being hawked to collections, the likes of which were never seen on the autocross/slalom courses of CalExpo, Lion Country Safari, Willow etc when these cars 'cut their teeth'.
A mention then of 'grp 2, day 2, concours, etc' would have gotten a befuddled blank gaze response.
Not a bad thing. Not at all. Other outstanding period metal has been bypassed by the collector world with nary a mention (or value).
I guess its time to jump on the concours restoration bandwagon. Belatedly!

Definitely a nice car. I can understand 'over-restoring' the exhaust piping by applying a finish. The unprotected original bare tubes were rough/ rust orange within a year and just about gone in 9 yrs on my socal car. That third member needed some attention-to-detail and the engine oil cap makes you wonder.
Almost looks like the underhood 5/16" body bolts are zinc phosphate (light) as opposed to manganese phosphate (dark). Maybe, maybe not.
Just mentioning these sub-points shows how nice that car is! Love the wheels!!

How truly impressive. Congratulations!
Your efforts hark back to the club of old!!

I guess all of the potential sellers considered all of the sound arguments posted here and ended up giving their cars away.

not only where do you stop w such a list, but where do you start?
another gossip column like 'the registry'? without editing, fact checking, or attribution - look at the damage done to cars (such as SFM5S038, thankfully not mine) without a scintilla of verified fact? because some passerby spit put a speculative cheap shot? thence codified in 'the registry'?
conversely, since our hobby relies on unverified submissions as fact what's to prevent the publishing of pap such as the gaudy narratives we see the auction houses churn out?

a buyer simply must educate themselves on what they are looking at.
regarding suspicion of a 'rebody' which would presumably have all of the authentic SAI pieces from the donor/original: it would come down to an analysis of the unibody. when was the original donor created? when was it delivered? from that one could deduce the Dearborn/Nashville date code stamping range of the panels/glass. that should be enough one started....from there it gets to be fun. especially if you're thinking of dropping a couple hundred (large).

A driver. Not a bad car. Needs a complete restoration.
It is a 1965 GT-350.
If it is indeed the original engine, a significant plus.
But an odd intermix of parts: 1966 decklid and fender(s), yet it still has its G2--which is a tough item.
Those rear springs almost took like Cambrias which were quite the item back in the day.
The horn switch, shifter, M/C cap, fasteners, breather cap, oil line and innumerable other subpoints could fill a book.

Still perhaps a better buy than 5S088 currently active on the Mecum Indy, estimated at 450-550k, which also shares many of these issues (sheetmetal) yet apparently is minus its Shelby American engine. Imagine having a 'Shelby' without a Shelby engine. Hmm.

In years long past, and inexplicably lost in the SAAC forum crash, cars offered on the open market would routinely receive a critical 'peer review' here on the forum.
Technical analyses, seemingly harsh upon first read, were factual--or corrected thru discussion here. This really helped the scholarship and fidelity of our marque IMO.

that 30 tooth gear is a 1:76 second gear when clustered on a ford. came both nickel and steel on on j and l t-10s. chevys used them too.

Remarkable in that it is unremarkable. I have seen HPM antenna'd cars w either what appeared to be a stock fixed antenna or this retractable style.
48" attached lead, 72" cable extension, 38" extended length. No mfgs markings nor any other markings/stamping.
Most, but not all, were mounted aft RH. This one was LH along quarter vents.

was mildly surprised to see that the eyelet washer is apparently a hood pin blank, dimpled for drillout.
(they had never been touched previously)
more notable is that it is nowhere near as 'nice' of original material/manufacture as the 'concours' items marketed today despite its obvious age and usage:

1965 GT350/R-Model / Re: 65 horn toggle switch

Jbarela: are you attributing steel threaded switches to Bo? No insult intended,  I might have missed something?

Bob Gaines: was there a change from plastic threaded, metal stemmed switches  during 65 production? Here too I may have missed that and need to be brought up to speed.

There have been all manner of ersatz switches feigned as original or replacement over the years (and I have even assisted in the replication of my original years ago as I've mentioned), but I have never seen a metal threaded original (yet).

My switch is exactly like Bo's. That is a 1965 GT-350 horn switch.

Later replacement?
That almost infers that it was a service part from SAI, would be interesting to document that.
There are correctly threaded bezels out there. I personally took my original to Bavaria some years back where it was duplicated along with spares.
Besides my spare. I have no idea where they ended up.
