LOVE IT!

I used to ride my Chopper "no hands" all the time, seeing that reminded me of that!!!!

I did that with a cheap 10 speed got up to 55, the speedometer looked just like that but a different name (Hurrnt?) How stupid that was!

55 mph on a 1968 Schwinn Stingray #6

Holy mother of schwinn stingrays !

A few things come to mind:

Glad the bearings held up

Glad no one opened a car door or pulled out in front of him

Glad that those tiny brakes where not used in "panic mode"

Glad those tires did not delaminate ( most of the old stingrays I have seen still have 50 year old original tires on them  at least mine do)

Glad he had a good grip and control of the complete roller coaster ride

Lastly to the bike and rider, HUZ- ZAH !

Why yes my good man !

Huffman Manufacturing Company
a.k.a.
Huffy Bicycles

Huffman purchased YLCE (Yorba Linda Cycle Enterprises) and converted that Southern California company to a national service company, assembling bicycles and other products for mass merchants such as KMart, Target, Zayres and Sears

That's "really bitchin", as we used to say.

Best I ever did was 46 mph on my 5-speed Stingray, with my buddy on the back, down a steep hill that teed into Pacific Coast Highway in Laguna Beach.

Scarier than I intended.  Definitely stupider.

The caliper style "brake pads" overheated and melted themselves onto the rim lips as I attempted to stop.  We had considerably more momentum than my 12-year-old brain had considered.  Barely got 'er stopped (by dragging our feet too) before anything bad happened.

Once was enough of that.
