« on: September 22, 2020, 09:49:15 PM »
Its probably been discussed a dozen times on this forum but I'll be darned if i can find a template, dimensions on the hood stripe. Of course this dawned on me as the painter hit me up about it today. HELP! Thanks Dan

i have an original 70 shelby hood stripe stencil layout from larry lawrence (who painted the b9 scoops and 70 shelby hood stripes at KK plant that i got from him back in the 80s when i visited him in brighton MI. We have one on ebayand i got another at sign shop making patterens since 3 70 shelbys are getting there hood stripes painted this week that are coming to our indiana fall classic show next weekend and i am going to have extras made to sell. Just dont go by the info in 97 registry saying 15/16'' wide at tip its supposed to read  1   5/16''

Larry back in the day. I had originals on my car when I bought it and they all matched up to the SAAC posted template except the "15/16"....  Gary

Gary the hood stripe drawing measurements are correct its the way u read them  and the description in 96 registry the way they were discribed  to the left of drawing was wrong as it says 15/16'' but look at drawing as there is a space between the 1 and 5 so it should have read 1  5/16''  NOT 15/16''  and wrong again in 97 registry description to left of drawing reads two stripes are 21  3/16'' apart but drawing is 21  13/16'' apart.  Most 70 shelby repainted cars have got this wrong looking at the 97 registry and reading it wrong but i have went over this with saac and vinny is going to have it corrected in new 69-70 shelby registry.  This is why unrestored cars are so valuable to document these type of issues and we have 2 70  shelby low mile survivors coming to our 50th 70 shelby show one has 6000 mile and a never shown before 540 mile 70 shelby coming from east and i have documented both of these cars original hood stripes and thats why i am making all 4 new template stencils using my nos RH outer stencil from kk plant to get the curves right and drawings from the inner curves as they are not the same curves around front scoop opening as the inner is a wider curve than the outer curve and if u look at the  hood in the front scoop area the inner fiberglass is moulded higher that the outer since hood is arched in that area.

Like I said many times while my car was repainted once the hood stripes were taped off and it was obvious they were original as pics sent to me later showing my car basically new confirmed that I was reading it wrong back then but again I measured my original stripes and compared to one of the registries(think the 1987) and my dimensions were the same except reading the front ones wrong and went with my original dimensions. We are on the same page Ed as another topic called out that people read the "15/16" wrong and why I "quoted" the dimension in my prior post.  All is good. Gary
